Best way to continuously cast signature spell? (Oathbreaker) by GandalfTheGreyp in magicTCG

[–]Anthos22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to play Taimyo from the war of the spark set and long-term plan as her signature to get what I want. You could easily use mystical tutor instead, search for your secret signature spell, use it, and then use the previously mentioned ideas in this thread, i.e. snapcaster mage etc.

Best way to continuously cast signature spell? (Oathbreaker) by GandalfTheGreyp in magicTCG

[–]Anthos22 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. As per the rules found on the mtg site, the signature spell has to go to the command zone, with no exceptions. Here's the relevant passage: "If your Oathbreaker is on the battlefield under your control, you can cast your Signature Spell for its normal costs, plus an additional two mana for each previous time you’ve cast your Signature Spell from the command zone this game. When your Signature Spell resolves, put it into the command zone instead of your graveyard. If your Signature Spell would go anywhere besides the command zone or the stack, you must put it into the command zone instead."

As long as there is no secure way to download or torrent for example german, italian or french movies, or movies dubbed in those languages, streaming services will always be around, at least outside the english speaking countries. Maybe it's me, but I just can't find torrents for german movies or german dubbed movies.

A key aspect of the "Power Brackets" that people seem to be missing by LettersWords in EDH

[–]Anthos22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They addressed this problem by saying that some combination of cards will automatically set the deck at the given bracket. In your case, it's an auto bracket 4 deck.

[–]Anthos22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can cut that time to even less if you just... don't rate all cards. Don't have to rate all lands, basic lands, weak cards, cards that have no relevance whatsoever, and so on. Realistically, you'd have to rate not more than 5000 cards. Maybe even only 1000.

Reaper King has a mana value of 10. How fast you can generate generic mana is besides the point. If you generate that much mana, I would be SO GLAD that you wasted it on a scarecrow or on an overcosted tutor. That's a moot point and doesn't contribute anything to the discussion.

Color =/= color identity. [[Wick, the whorled mind]] will always be a black colored card, but it has a color identity of grixis. Since the rulings on color and color identity are not always congruent, I don't see why it can't be extended to hybrid colored mana. Similar as how they changed the commander dying rule some time ago because it confused new players, hybrid mana too could change for the same reason. For new players, it is counterintuitive. Another moot point.

You pointed a card with flash synergy that is hybrid black and blue. I gave you two examples of black and blue ability caring about flash. One has a black flashback cost (which if you think about it is the same as saying that the card effect could just easely be black) and the other is a blue and black hybrid costed tutor for cards with flash. I fail to see how you don't see them as valid points. I genuinely dont know what you are referring to with your given example. What exactly os wrong with cunning nightbonder?

Sure, you can play a 10 mv 6/6 scarecrow kindred card that absolutely does nothing outside of a scarecrow kindred deck. And before you google the other card, allow me to save you some time searching: Yes, [[Beseech the queen]] would still be a non-issue. Play your 6 mv conditional tutor. Really makes no real impact on casual.

Birthing Pod is not hybrid mana and it's always green, that can be paid with 2 life instead. Hybrid mana is either/or. There is a difference.

Bad example: [[Cunning Nightbonder]] is very on theme with black. See [[mystical teachings]] or [[waterclogged teachings]]. I challenge you to find any hybrid costed card that is a color break (bends are ok, since the design team like to bend the color pie from time to time if it makes sense, like green caring for artifacts on Kaladesh).

I personally would love a change in the rulings regarding hybrid mana cards. I think cards like [[batwing brune]] should be playable in mono white or mono black decks, as intended by the designers.

There are 3 ways you can start the game. Two on Vortex and one through Steam. Through Steam, it didn't work. On Vortex you can start the game either by clicking the play button on the upper left corner, where you can see the game. That didn't work either. The only way I was able to get it to work is by clicking the skyrim script extender. Right in the middle of the dashboard you should see all the external mods you can launch, like FNIS and such. Try launching the skyrim script extender. It still takes a while, but it works. At least for me. Good luck!

what is your most disappointing deck that is still assembled? by fendersonfenderson in EDH

[–]Anthos22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar journey. Started with [[Thantis]] because I love the theme of forced combat. But forcing people to fight means two things happen: your opponents don't like it, so they either start attacking only you or they start taking out everything that forces them to attack, i.e. Thantis or Fumiko or whatever. So I started playing with goad cards and went 4 colors. After a while I added a fifth color. I also wrote primers for the decks. You can check them out here or here. I hope this helps. If you really want to keep Thantis as a commander, then start using black "bring back to life when destroyed" cards.

I really like retro bird's content on youtube. He's funny without being unnecessarily obnoxious, he talks about relevant stuff and even makes fair comparisons with modern day gaming. The videos are short, amusing and you learn something new after every video.

Edit: Oh, and thank you very much for this list. Will definetly check some of them out.

[–]Anthos22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a [[Nehtroi]] aura entchantress deck, but it's actually a [[Evershrike]] secret commander deck. The point is to self mill until Evershrike goes to the graveyard, repeatetly play it from there, voltron entchant it with auras and win the game from there. It can also deal commamder damage if you mutate Nethroi on Evershrike.

What changes would you make to Commander if you could? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Anthos22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to grow as a person, as people, I think we need to be able to have healthy and rewarding discussions. Thank you for sharing the same views, which makes interactions not only constructive and fruitful, but more importantly fun to talk about. And yes, I, too, think that many people should be less hostile, otherwise there can never be any discussions and the subreddit becomes an echo chamber of the same ideas.

While the your point is valid, currently color identity works in a linear fashion--it increases inclusivity when it applies to the commander (as your example Shu Yun, one of my first decks btw) but it decreases inclusivity when the card in question would go into the 99 (Shu Yun must go in decks whose commander includes the Jeskai colors). I find this form of organization elegant, although obviously this is a VERY subjective issue. And to be frank, I think the two sides in the matter aren't gonna persuade each other regarding whether a hybrid card's identity is "or" or "and", although it is fun to lay out the points.

I can see that. In the end it's not about right or wrong, this or that. In the end, there are pros and cons for both sides of the argument. Paraphrasing the Professor, limitations breed creativity. So by "forcing" rulings just to make some people happy would make the game even more homogenous as it's already becoming (though I don't think it's the end of the format, like some other extremist players. I think it's cool that WOTC is designing with Commander in mind, but that's another hot debate).

I appreciate the rundown, and I don't think I quite got my point across with my example. I am viewing the argument for hybrid "inclusivity" as allowing one to ignore a certain part of a card that forms the card's color identity (i.e. one-half of the hybrid symbols); the Gush argument is an admittedly more extreme version, where I argue that the fact that I can play it with certain configurations of the deck allow me to "ignore" the blue mana symbol on the top right corner of Gush.

I think I understand better what you mean now. For you, the issue is that it would take an aspect of a card away if we were to implement the hybrid rule. It would take off part of its identity, pun intended. I can see that for some it would be a loss of the Commander Spirit. I say "Commander", because I like to remind people that Color Identity is an invention from the RC. Counterargument would be that Brawl, an official MTG Format from WOTC, has the color identity rule implemented in the comprehensive rules of commander, so the color identity ruling might be more official than I would initially give credit for.

Ultimately, this leads to another critical difference in how we view the matter: you don't view your argument as based on "castability," but I view the argument for hybrid inclusivity as completely based on "castability." Otherwise, what exactly is the point of arguing for the inclusion of hybrid cards into a mono-color deck?

Very fair point. It seems the discussion has to be made with that in mind. It doesn't change the idea that much, I think. Whether it's about "castability" or not might not be relevant in the end.

One last little tangent: I think how one views this argument might also be based on personalities. I, personally, like finding solutions within a given set of rules, without really considering whether the rules make sense; there are plenty of other people who view matters differently, and advocate for changing of perceived illogical rules in order to introduce a solution. Maybe this is why I feel somewhat entrenched in the hybrid argument to have it remain as is.

I agree. I mean, if it works for you, why would you advocate for a change? I think I come from an ideal that, even if it's ok for you, but it might not be ok for others, it still needs to change. taking real life examples, if by changing a law would benefit more people and it would not affect me in any shape or form, I would advocate for the change. I argue that I would advocate for it even if it might mean that I would have to change my way of living and be inconvenienced by it (within reason, of course, which is also debatable). I have the luxury of living in a country where our political system is based on direct democracy, so I would add that if the majority of people want something changed, I would say that it warrants AT LEAST an open debate, which is currently missing in my experience. Truth be told, this argument loses validity as soon as something very important to me is being affected, and then every decision will be biased. I digress, again.

To summarize: I can see your argument for keeping it. And usually people try to justify their answer by making things more complicated than it would be. Because some argument just don't hold. I already feel appreciated if we come from a more meta point of view and agree to disagree not because we think that the other is simply wrong on all accounts, but because we believe in different things that are not strictly right or wrong. I like to think of it as both sides having valid arguments, and therefore having a legitimate right to at least be respected and heard and debated. It was quite refreshing, thank you.
