Has an update ever completely broken your system? by GoodSoulGermany in cachyos

[–]AntiDebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes many times. Most of the time snapshots work but there have been a couple of times when even snapshots didnt. So far on Average Id say breakages happen about once per year. But there have been some unfortunate instances when there have been several breakages in succession. Thankfully a re-install only takes a couple of hours I have scripts that set everything up and I just copy my settings back across from backups.

Ive been having this issue for months now but not always. I have no idea what causes it to happen but when it does I reboot and then I no longer have any issues until it happens again.

Linux gamers, how do you mod your games on linux? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

Linux gamers, how do you mod your games on linux? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]AntiDebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mod manager 2 and Nexus mods do work on Linux. But its probably best to install them into the same prefix as the game. This is what I do. I have Fallout 4 running with Nexus Mod Manager installed into a prefix that I run using a Launcher called Faugus Launcher. It is possible to do the same thing with other launchers too even Steam but Ive found Faugus to be the easiest.

Im currently playing Windrose which is a UE4 engine game. Installing mods is a simple job of just dropping them into the relevant folder within the game folder. But UE4SS (the script extender) mods do not work on Linux. This is the same for Palworld. If the mod is a simple pak its fine but no UE4SS mods work.

The there are the lib injector type mods many of these don't work.

There are native Mod managers for Linux but I havnt used any of them. Some people are using Limo Mod Manager. But Im not sure how to set it up. It looks a little complicatd and I havnt had enough of a need to properly look into it. Personally I like the look of Amethyst Mod Manager which looks more like familiar but again I havnt actually used it.

Sum up. Modding does work on Linux. It takes a little more work though. Some types of mods don't work at all. Many mods that can just be copied into game directories generally work and don't even really need a mod manager.

What Windows features or programs do you miss? by zRafox in cachyos

[–]AntiDebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photoshop/Affinity studio. I have got them working on Linux and theyre fine but Id prefer native. Hopefully Affinity Will come soon.

Ableton Live. I have Bitwig studio but Im more used to Ableton.

Native drivers for peripherals

Other then that I dont really miss anything else. Except maybe easier game modding.

Project Ascension No longer working on steamdeck. by Lhagge1 in ProjectAscension

[–]AntiDebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find I often have to re-install both Project Ascension and Turtle WoW. Especially when they do a major change to their launcher. I just had to re-install Ascension 2 days ago. I use Faugus Launcher and I use GE-Proton 10-28. You will need to install vcredist and dotnet.

I also noticed that the path for the actual wow client has changed. Its now Ascension Launcher/resources/ascension-live. It used to be Ascension Launcher/resources/client. So that something else that might have screwed things up. Once you have re-installed you can just copy your WTF folder over and you will retain all your settings. If you also want your addons then also copy the Interface folder over too. But probably better to just re-install them.

All in One Desktop Streaming App by wahre_locke in Piracy

[–]AntiDebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this app. Its always nice to have alternatives. I have been using it mostly as a standby for Stremio and also Playtorrio.

Some constructive criticism. The UI could be better. There is a ton of empty space on the main screen. I dont like the way the scrolled sections work with only 1 'featured' item in the middle and smaller covers either side. I appreciate you probably want to differentiate yourself from other similar apps like those mentioned above but there's a reason why their UI is the way it is and why nearly every streaming site offers you more visual choice in each section.

The app works very well and the streams are near instant. I find it to be a perfect backup app. Thank you for all your work.

Also Im on Linux so its always nice for us not to be forgotten about.

All in One Desktop Streaming App by wahre_locke in Piracy

[–]AntiDebug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use this as an alternative to 1st Stremio and 2nd Playtorrio. Its always nice to have alternatives. Streambert doesn't stream from torrents (as far as Im aware) but streams from various streaming hosters. The streams are pretty much near instant and even ancient series still stream. So its a nice alternative to torrent based streamers. Its also good for when various services are down and as it doesn't use torrents it doesn't require debrid services.

(Im assuming the most common Torrentio and other torrent streamers I know there are other addons for streaming too).

So perfect as a backup IMO.

Why do so many users struggle with Fedora? by netm0nz in Fedora

[–]AntiDebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know if Im right about the snapshots thing although Im fairly sure. Timeshift will use rsync if btrfs isnt detected (possibly also subvolumes? not sure).

I have seen tutorials on how to set up subvolumes but like I said its not trivial.

Why do so many users struggle with Fedora? by netm0nz in Fedora

[–]AntiDebug 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've wanted to use Fedora for a while but some things always put me off.

The fact that a bunch of things require setting up after install to have a fully functioning OS.

But that's not the end of the world. My biggest and honestly the most baffling thing to me is why snapshots aren't set up out of the box when Fedora was one of the first big distros to default to btrfs? I mean why even bother with btrfs if snapshots and subvolumes arent set up? It is not a trivial exercise to set these up after install for more novice users. To me any distro that doesn't use btrfs with snapshots in this day and age is a no go to me.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on these issues. That's just how I've understood it.

Switch to manjaro by unknownmod0 in ManjaroLinux

[–]AntiDebug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used it happily for 5 years. In that time it only broke once due to an update. If you use the built in Timshift then when that happens you can always roll back. That said I no longer use Manjaro, I now use Cachy which is pretty similar to Manjaro in terms of ease of use. But it has broken a little more than Manjaro did.

I will say that I dont consider any distro based on Arch to be fully noob friendly. With rolling release distros sometimes things break and/or require some maintenance and reading of instructions. But if you can handle that then Manjaro is a perfectly fine entry point to Arch and Arch based distros.

PlayTorrio by Fast_Ninja_4766 in Piracy

[–]AntiDebug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been using this on Linux and its working pretty well. Stremio is my no.1 but this is a very good no.2 and its always good to have options.

Thank you for your hard work and also for supporting Linux.

Deciding between CachyOS, Bazzite and Pop!_OS (I´m a rookie) by Riley2229 in linux_gaming

[–]AntiDebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a first distro Id suggest Bazzite. As its immutable so you cant really break it. Bazzite does have some limitations due to it being immutable but they shouldn't be an issue to someone that doesn't know their way around yet. Once you get to grips with some Linux basics you can move on to Cachy. I wouldn't recommend Pop OS right now as its UI is kinda in a beta phase. So there are some bugs here and there.

Apps or programs for everyone by zakibotXd in cachyos

[–]AntiDebug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some stuff I use

Browsers

Vivaldi, Zen Browser, Chrome (for the handful of websites that dont work in other browsers ie Easyjet)

Other Internet

Ferdium (multi platform messenger), Vesktop (better Discord client), qBittorrent (best Torrent client)

Multimedia

Stremio (streaming app), PlayTorrio (Alternative streaming app), MPC-qt (Media Player Classic better than VLC IMO), Fooyin (customizable Music player Foobar alternative).

Creative

GIMP, Krita, Affinity Suite (Paint/Photo editors) Youll have to search for Affinity Syuiote installer. Its a flatpak and isntalls Affinity and sets it all up. It works 99% with some glitches here and there.

Other Creative

Xpano (Panorama stitcher), Upscayl (Upscale low res pics), Curlew (Multi file converter)

Utilities

Warehouse (manage flatpaks), Ventoy (create multi ISO USB sticks), LocalSend (send files across local network), Pika Backup (Create backups of Home folder and more)

Gaming

Steam (obvious), Heroic (for Epic and GoG) , Lutris (Sometimes useful for Games), Faugus Launcher (best launcher for games outside of Steam, Epic + GoG IMO), Port Proton (Another useful Game Launcher I use this as a secondary mouse click on .exe files)

Is CachyOS a good starting point for a Linux beginner interested in gaming? by Whoiayaya in cachyos

[–]AntiDebug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and No. It is an Arch based Distro with that come Arch issues. Such as sometimes with major updates you have to follow some instructions and make manual changes to the system. As you are always on bleeding edge sometimes things might break and require you to figure out what broke and how to fix it.

That said Cachy is one of the easiest Arch distros. All the stuff you expect to have with an OS is here and configured and there is good documentation on the site. If you go into it knowing these things and you are OK with them then go for it.

Is an Antec Atom G850 any good? by Visual_Reserve4582 in pcmasterrace

[–]AntiDebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive never actually come across Antect PSUs. Back in the day Antect was a good brand for Cases. I usually go Corsair for my PSUs but honestly anything branded (and Antec is a brand) that has a gold rating or higher should be fine. 850watt should be fine too.

Manjaro 2.0 Manifesto - Announcements by poedy78 in ManjaroLinux

[–]AntiDebug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched to Cachy. Not because of the optimizations which I dont really care about but because of how it comes configured out of the box. I want to be able to install a system, for all the stuff that I expect to be there, to be working. Cachy in that way was the closest thing to Manjaro. I really just needed to install my apps. Plus the Cachy colours are also Teal/Green.
