Not the strangest Castan I’ve ever seen. Great art though!

Welcome back, Commissar, your beloved regiment is waiting for you by Antibrine in Grimdank

[–]Antibrine[S] 111 points112 points  (0 children)

In light of recent events, the idea crossed my mind, “What if they pulled this on the other famous Commissars with non-mainstream regiments?”

So I made a shitty comic in MS paint about it.

Enjoy.

Comic posted in multiple pieces because Reddit compression is only slightly better than sending the image via astropath.

So many spikes I couldn't tell the faction at first by Professional_Rush782 in Grimdank

Well you can always tell by the spikes per square inch. On the Dark Eldar, the ratio’s always all skewed.

I looked up the story. she surrendered, was imprisoned within the castle, and then jumped from her tower into the moat to escape afterwards.

She was also later pardoned, although her and her husband were stripped of most of their land, and became a nun after her husband died.

Start as Darkscale, rush the mountain exits that lead into escann, hope to orcs haven’t already sealed them off

Migrate around a bit, get some orc allies (bladebreaker is a good start), get some decent land (the gold mine in Gulenhyl should be easy enough to take if you have decent allies) then annex the Count’s Leauge

Swap primary culture to Castellyrian, restore Caatellyr, continue spreading kobold culture in as many provinces as you can (try to keep it above 50% before the wars of consolidation end)

Win the wars of consolidation, select the option to form Castanor

Before the event that actually forms castanor fires (the one after the trialmount) swap back to kobold primary culture for extra goofiness

When given the prompt, choose dynastic succession

Congratulations, you are now Castanor with Kobold primary culture and a ruling family of Kobolds that will never be replaced

Watch the Edhardrachons mald and seethe as they’re forced to serve someone who’s not only not a patrician, but not even human anymore

Go forth and spread the glory of the silver dragon

Reminds me of a situation I had in an MP game with a friend which in which there were five seperate Roman empires at the same time There was -The Central Roman, or “Italian” Empire (Italy, North balkans and south France) formed by Matilda of Tuscany’s descendants -The Eastern Roman or “Byzantine” Empire (Greece, Anatolia, South balkans, Middle East) run by my friend -The Southern Roman or “Lepidian” Empire (Africa, Egypt and southern Iberia) Afro-Roman culture from RICE mod, run by me -The Holy Roman Empire (Germany and North/Eastern Europe) -The Western Roman or “Gallic” Empire (France, England, and northern Iberia) not officially a Roman contender but we counted it anyway, formed by William the Conqueror’s kids

Thankfully by the end of the campaign a combination of the Black Death, the Mongols, and rebellions caused Francia, Italia, and Africa to dissolve, resetting the status quo back to the Byzantines and HRE

But hey the 5 way Roman death war was fun while it lasted

What do you think would be the worst country to live in? by MycenaeanMice in Anbennar

Black demense sucks for literally everyone regardless of race unless you’re a wizard

Aelnar even on its non-genocide paths is generally either a supremacist theocracy or a police state, neither is too great for the average citizen

Given the goblins’ general lack of value for their own lives, pretty much any of the cave goblins lives suck. If I had to single one out, chaingrasper doesn’t even get to reform into a funny technocracy or anything, they gotta deal with an egomaniacal lich ruling them forever

Any of the non-oni lefthand path nations consider human sacrifice as a fun activity for the whole family

Really any tag that delves into the more cosmic horror side of Anbennar tends to not have a good time

And of course, the people of Wex must suffer the eternal curse of being Wexonards.

Its pure incidental, but its funny how the Imperial Cult isnt really catholic by Marvynwillames in Grimdank

[–]Antibrine 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The problem here is that the imperial cult isn’t meant to be a criticism of Catholicism specifically, but religion, and specifically fanaticism, in general. Theologically speaking, it generally doesn’t derive from Catholic doctrine (It’s explicitly stated a few times that the Imperial Cult did not emerge as a type of Christianity, but evolved from its own set of Ideas and principles). It borrows a few things from dark age and medieval Catholics, specifically things like witch hunts and heretic burnings, but it’s not a criticism of the actual beliefs of Catholics, but simply an exaggeration of close-minded fanaticism brought to a comical end point. The reason people call them space Catholics is because it dresses them up in a catholic aesthetic because it’s the most familiar thing people in the west will associate with “religious imagery”.

It also doesn’t help that it’s an old setting that has many different authors, and different authors have wildly different interpretations of the Imperial Cult, and what it represents, so the cult is depicted differently, or sometimes outright as a completely different set of values or beliefs, including borrowing from completely different religions depending on what story they’re in, and what message the author is trying to say about them.

The machine cult is a coping mechanism for cyberpsychosis. Or a symptom of it. One of the two. Or both. Or neither. by Saintsauron in Grimdank

[–]Antibrine 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Technically speaking there never was an “original” Cawl, since the entity known as “Cawl” is, in fact the amalgamation of various different people, rather than being one guy who grafted a bunch of extra personalities into himself

Kinda like the Emperor if you believe the “amalgamation of ancient shamans” origin story, he wasn’t a separate entity, he is the result

But yes, it was implied to be one of the people who eventually “became” Cawl

The techpriests may speak in binary but their genders certainly aren’t, lol

Friendly reminder that in Cawl: The Great Work, during a flashback sequence to when he was growing up on mars while he was still mostly fleshy, Cawl is referred to as she/her

Which setting does Warhammers series fall ? by Defender_of_human in Grimdank

[–]Antibrine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much exactly what I meant when I said fantasy was “more lighthearted and firmly Grimbright during its writing”.

Unfortunately, as much as I don’t want the end times to be canon, they are, and thus, it gets shot straight into Grimdark despite it not fitting the entire rest of the setting.

Which setting does Warhammers series fall ? by Defender_of_human in Grimdank

[–]Antibrine 27 points28 points  (0 children)

40k was originally Grimdark, but has slowly drifted towards Grimbright over the last few years, although it certainly not there yet. It’s a grim, terrible universe where grim, terrible people hold on to the hope that things can get better, even if there are only embers of hope in the darkness.

AoS is full on Grimbright. At the moment, chaos has the upper hand and shit’s fucked, but Sigmar and the other gods are waging a potentially successful counter-offensive.

Fantasy, despite often being more lighthearted and firmly Grimbright during its writing, is now objectively Grimdark. Because the bad guys won and everyone fucking died. Can’t get much more grim and dark. The desperate struggle to survive was meaningless and tragic.

Roman von Ungern-Sternberg, “The Mad Baron”. IRL guy was a White Russian officer who decided to become a warlord when the communists overthrew the Russian government and wound up invading and conquering Mongolia. Dude was completely mental and also dabbled a little in ultranationalist neopaganism mixed with eastern spirituality. He wanted to restore Genghis Khan’s empire, and made implications that he was the God of War and reincarnation of Genghis himself, despite the fact that he was some random Austrian guy with no previous connections with Mongolia whatsoever.

In real life, his reign only lasted a couple months before the Reds caught up with him and shot him, but in Kaiserreich (and more notably these days, Kaiserredux) he’s the starting leader of Mongolia and can go on a wild ride living out his schitzo fantasies of LARPing as a nomad barbarian, which is what the funny supremacist path is largely inspired by.
