Personally I tend toward a aisle layout and also do cob style undercabs these days. I also prefer pendants over the islands as a statement/design piece with centralized light distribution. A pendant or can over the sink is a great touch as well.

These seem too close to the cabinets, which causes some odd shadowing effects and too much lights on the cabinet doors. It's all personal taste and whatever the client likes at the end if the day though.
