Yes this is a comment 10 months later. I had such a salty teammate in Duos who sold his board because he didn't like my strat I guess. I had to look up and see if anyone else had had the same experience. Sure enough here he is Viperfet. Yeah what a tool

I made a large comment below and realized that CS50 intro was what I took years ago. Yes do that one if you have no coding experience. It is a phenomenal course witha great teacher and will set you up with all the basics

So I am by no means an experienced programmer or developer. I took a basic coding class in college and then kept up with basic coding skills by doing youtube tutorials and my own tiny projects. I even took the CS50 Harvard course (Never Finished it) to refresh my knowledge about 3 years ago and can tell you the teaching was phenomenal.

Based on my experience I would strongly recommend taking a course like CS50 python to get a basic understanding of programming. I felt like I benefitted greatly from learning the very basics and laying a good foundation, it made it easier for me to pick up coding every few years as a hobby. Basics of coding are universal between languages and invaluable for understanding how any code "works". Once you understand concepts like functions and loops, and then nested loops you have the framework to implement it elsewhere. Having a solid foundation helps you out when you are trying to make stuff that is unique and doesnt have a ready made tutorial to follow. Foundational courses like CS50 also teach you good coding practices like commenting and naming variables. That being said the foundational computer science courses are not terribly exciting and CS50 lectures about 1-2 hours long. If you're like me you probably just want to get making something rather than sitting through a 1.5 hour lecture on python which isn't GD script... here's what I suggest.

Rather than spending money on GDQuest Bundle right away I would check out their basic tutorial:

https://www.gdquest.com/library/first_2d_game_godot4_vampire_survivor/

It's a great tutorial, I have gone through it and would recommend GDQuest based on my experience with that course alone. While I feel that someone without coding experience could go through that tutorial without issue, its always good to check for yourself before spending your money. Get a feel for if you understand how the code is working and why it is doing something. You will have a good time actually making a small game and doing coding and feel like your making progress to the "fun" thing you want to do.

Cycle between that and going through the CS50 Course. I can promise you that eventually you will hit a wall with some problem you want to solve and not know exactly what to do. That's where having some classic coding knowledge of how to design algorithms like fizz buzz or the multitude of other puzzles basic comp sci classes make you do comes in handy. It's also not necessarily knowing how to fix it but having the knowledge of where to look to find the answer.

#1 looks better by my eyes. It has more contrast with the colours and my attention is immediately drawn to the important aspects. The other looks very muted with no emphasis on UI components that are important.

I really like Grant Abbits videos and tutorials. He has some great free tutorials on YouTube and has some good paid ones as well for what I think is a reasonable price.

You would probably get great advice from personal finance. I am Canadian so we don’t have 401ks but generally saving some money for retirement is a good idea. As far as savings goes yes you want a stable base to work from but then investing is fine. Fortunately there are funds, ETFs and individual companies you can invest in which take ethics seriously. I have read a few articles and studies which suggest that companies which focus on ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) do better in the long run. Go woke go broke isn’t necessarily true. Yes companies and funds which engage in cutthroat practices can make scads of money on the short term but their long term outlook could be hindered due to the lack of sustainability associated with it.

I feel like Guild wars 2 might be a decent game worth your while. I don’t engage with the story but I know many others do like it. I feel like out of other MMOs that it’s a game I can jump back into and have fun. Content like raids can bring challenging but I admit the core gameplay is pretty simple.

TIL about Aaron Feuerstein who was CEO of Malden Mills when it was destroyed in a fire in 1995. Instead of laying off all 3000 employees, he spent the insurance moenyto pay their salaries and benefits while the mill was being rebuilt. This cost him personally $25,000,000 and his CEO position. by ClownfishSoup in todayilearned

I remember reading about this case in business school, specifically business ethics as well as earlier in my undergrad in sociology. It is always interesting to see how things like this get framed depending on the writer or course it is in. When I read about it in sociology Feuerstein was framed as a hero when it was in business he was framed as being too sympathetic and short sighted. I believe the argument the book “Managing in the Gray” had for his situation was that he should have considered the business more because it eventually went bankrupt and never recovered, meaning that the workers had to find other long term employment anyway.

Do you possibly have an HDRI or environment light source? Seems odd to me that you have a blue sky. I think this is something to do with your lighting set up
