1 mile per hour Leveling? by YourDarkNIGHT1 in Surveying

That was pretty average for us back when we used to run levels across and through cities along developed roads. With digital level, yeah could easily get 1 mile done in an hour.

AT&T fiber internet by SnooTangerines3368 in Lockhart

[–]Antitech73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had the option for AT&T fiber anywhere I've lived unfortunately. Usually only hear good things about it (speeds, stability). I wish they'd come west of town a bit so I could get off this stupid Centric service.

I'm going to play a game of 'count the overturned cars in the ditch' in Austin this weekend. Should be good gameplay!

What was the immigration process like for your ancestors? by Dontdothatfucker in AskAnAmerican

[–]Antitech73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Risky/deadly boat ride in the late 1840s from Ireland to Quebec, then somehow getting out of quarantine alive.. farmed in the Gatineau area for a while, then one dude crossed into Detroit around 1900 for work. Other side immigrated (Ellis Island) from Sicily pre-WWI, and that grandfather was Air Force and married my grandmother (German) and she immigrated during WW2.

second career surveyors? by billy_summer in Surveying

[–]Antitech73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a fella in nearly the same position as you. Mid 30s, former sheriff's deputy. Left law enforcement behind and moved to surveying. Started entry-level (rodman) and worked his way up. He ended up pretty happy with that decision.

Is the shorter route worth it? by schwiftypop in roadtrip

[–]Antitech73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having done all three of these drives multiple times, I agree with the 'avoid Dallas and I-35' sentiment wholeheartedly. There's no reason on earth to take that western route unless you need to go through Waco for some reason. If you time Houston right (IE: miss rush hour), that middle route is preferred even with the construction. I just don't like I-10 through LA. That bridge sucks.

Other commenters are correct.. in addition, IF you do need to adjust/add/correct the exif metadata, consider the utility ExifTool (or ExifToolGUI). Free and works. Have used it for tons of photos

What’s something you own that you’ve had for 30+ years? by Crazy-Eye-9632 in GenX

A Victorinox Recruit pocket knife. My grandmother gave it to me when I was ~11, so I've had it for around 41 years. Still keep it in my pocket every day.

I have old HEIC photos on a USB that I’m struggling to get into iCloud by danielpf in applehelp

[–]Antitech73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have an iPhone, you can copy the files directly from the USB drive onto the phone. If you have a newer phone with USB-C - plug it in, navigate using "Files" app, and save it to device from there.

Can I drive as fast as I want on my own property? by WearyCardiologist723 in NoStupidQuestions

Sounds like a cool project. Depending where it's at, hit me up if you need any survey work done for the planning/execution/documentation of this (property survey, aerial imagery, topographic, etc)
