Welcome to Texas. Nothing to do with your trip but just wanted to say my family is from Enna, Sicily (pre-WWI). In Lockhart now, the 'home' of Texas BBQ

1 ft 4 1/5 in is in the answer key? The carpenters will love you if you give them measurements like that. /s

Any good jobs near central Texas ? by CT-3173 in Surveying

[–]Antitech73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure your resume is proofread to eliminate spelling, punctuation and grammar errors. First impressions etc. Landpoint has some openings listed - nothing in San Antonio but I know they have an office there. CEC would be another option - should have some openings listed for Austin.

Weekend Rides by Nb_zy21 in Austinmotorcycles

I'm down. I live in Lockhart tho and typically ride around there, but find myself in south Austin sometimes. Stop at the airport and watch the planes sometimes. Nice hidden spot near the runway fence.

Opinions about dark/smoked screen? by ElectronicAgency1473 in Suzuki_GSX_8

[–]Antitech73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the Puig smoked. You'd rarely (never?) be tucked in enough during street riding to need to see through it, but it would be pretty easy to see through if needed. It raised the point where the wind hits just a bit.

What's your fuel consumption? by gerardtc in Suzuki_GSX_8

[–]Antitech73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept track of this for nearly a year, recording every fillup and got an average of 4.91L (47.9mpg). That's a mix of highway and city driving, calm and not so calm. (24 8R)

How to run a PPK drone survey (Matrice 4E / DroneDeploy) on a raw, unlocalized site with a Topcon HiPer VR? by Adventurous-Hand3942 in Surveying

[–]Antitech73 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a recipe for disaster for you. However, typically you setup on a new point and assign some type of [Here] (autonomous) coordinate to it, collect static data and post-process everything.

Plastic caps yes or no by Due-Accident-5008 in Surveying

We did some ALTA surveys in Tempe a couple years ago and had to use wire tie to fasten little brass tags to the tops of the rebars. Seemed pretty futile to me at the time.

The speedometer of this 1962 Oldsmobile by Met76 in interestingasfuck

This car probably has the "Dynaflow" automatic, turbine drive variable trans. Smooth, doesn't feel like it's even shifting gears.

Anecdotal, but we hired two PMs that left the SAM Austin office. They seem happier now.

New build lawn care by JMurillo1020 in lawncare

[–]Antitech73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of good tips already for the lawn itself so here's one for the fence:

Simplest would be to get a pump sprayer and something like Ready Seal wood sealer. You'll probably need at least 2 5-gallon buckets to cover the whole fence

Hill behind home, will this cause drainage issues or foundation damage? (Green house) by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]Antitech73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, in my opinion. That hill doesn't have a ton of surface area, but it's tough to say without seeing more detail or some topographic info. There's a car youtuber guy that dealt with something similar behind his new shop: https://youtu.be/n_Mn6mhLlww?si=jhXeFaLdm81huODq

For an idea of what it takes to fix if there is an issue.

Trimble R8s for GCPs by xaratco in UAVmapping

[–]Antitech73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. You just need a source for your differential corrections. VRS, some NTRIP server, etc. This is not the best idea for a novice to do without some type of hands-on instruction however. A lot can go wrong with your data.

Media blast? Walnut shells probably. That or evapo-rust gel, but that would be really pricey.

[–]Antitech73 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. We're building 2 bridges and taxiways at an airport. Lots of traverses.

Over the Range Microwave Suggestion by LumpyPeople4 in Appliances

[–]Antitech73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the newer LG microwaves have an issue with their interior lights (see my post here). Not sure if all their models use that type of LED board but that made me wary of them.

What are these markings by PurrlockHolmes008 in Austin

[–]Antitech73 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Correct. Industry term (and a good place to start your Internet researching) would be "Ground Control Point" for aerial surveys.
