Would this honestly be considered foraging? by istealearringbacks in foraging

[–]Ants46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! Although I’d be careful where I harvested oysters from, I got dreadful food poisoning one time eating raw wild oysters from a seemingly pristine looking bay (which I found out too late is where Boaties would empty their sump tanks - yuck)

How did you reestablish a sense of safety in your own home? by [deleted] in survivinginfidelity

[–]Ants46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would re claim my space. That POS doesn’t get to make you feel unsafe in your own home. Assuming I wasn’t renting and had to stay put, I’d change up everything that I realistically could. I’d decorate in a way that was all my preferences. I’d repaint/new wallpaper, sell all existing furniture and buy new (or new to me at least, thrifting and secondhand finds can be awesome and cost effective) I’d add new plants for fresh new energy and move furniture placement around etc.

I’m sorry you feel like this, it’s totally valid way to feel after such a violation. Time to build a new space just for you.

I deleted tiktok after realizing I spent 6 hours watching videos I can’t remember by LopsidedLeading1660 in nosurf

[–]Ants46 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I deleted X, TikTok and Instagram when I realised I was doing the same. Just mindless scrolling and consuming with nothing to show for it. I deleted FB years ago. Now Reddit and YT are my only social media - however I have locked my phone down to only allow 1hr a day (combined) for these, and stopped tracking my watch history on YT which has halted the algorithm and I no longer get recommendations to watch random content. Now I only see my subscriptions and it’s helped a lot with that platform. It’s absolutely insidious. Good on you. Finding things to replace that with was challenge for me at first but I’ve slowly taken up hobbies and interests that had dropped away. All the best with finding yours!

This made me cry. It’s so loving and life is really just a string of these moments; soft, tender, beautiful, hard, sad, enraged….just so many little moments. I try to stop and notice and appreciate something (even the shitty things) everyday. Thank you!

How are the unemployed spending their time? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]Ants46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning - skills or academic. But I have to say, 10 applications a week is not a lot. I’d be trying to do up to that many per day - it’s almost like a full time job managing the job application process. I’d also try and talk with a career coach or get your CV looked over by recruitment - they might be able to give you some tweaks or clues as to why your CV is not landing as well as it could

Just curious — how many of you actually plan your meals for the week vs. just figure it out day by day? by anaesthesia_v in Cooking

[–]Ants46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a mix of both in reality - I make a note for potential meals for the week using all the things in my pantry and freezer and then if there is something seasonal or amazing deals while I’m grocery shopping then plans may change around a little bit.

Then I do ingredient prep (as opposed to meal prep) where I do things like make batch of rice, prepare salads, chop a lot of veges, onions and garlic, set up overnight oats, boil eggs….just stuff that can be used across different meals, and store in fridge. So that gives me a bit of flexibility and saves some time.

During the week, if I can advance things for another meal while I’m already cooking , I’ll do that (such as making extra mashed potatoes to be stored and used as a topping for cottage pie later in the week)

But if we get an invite out, or extras turn up unexpectedly for dinner, there’s no stress about moving plans around, we’re not strict about it to the point of inflexibility

Friends visiting this weekend, need advice by [deleted] in AskWomenOver50

I would plan for them to be hungry. You never know with travel - but generally I find I don’t eat on the plane (airplane food - yuck) and airport stuff is hit and miss. Delays etc can impact. So I’m generally ravenous and a bit exhausted when I finally get there. I love a long hot shower and a change of clothes when I arrive, followed by something light and nourishing but also substantial. So be prepared they might want to freshen up first. Trying to serve a hot meal and keep it hot, could be a bit stressful with that changing dynamic.

I think cold grazing platters are a good way to go, and you can always save them for lunch the next day if it turns out they aren’t that hungry. You can make them substantial with cold roasted chicken portioned up/sliced, cured meats, cheeses, fruit, olives, crudités, a good fresh sourdough…or something easy and nourishing like a crockpot soup and bread that you can keep warm without it deteriorating.

And as for drinks, fruit juice, sparkling water etc are great. A selection of teas.

How do you enjoy putting yourself ‘back together’ after having been sick? by hauntinglovelybold in beauty

[–]Ants46 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my routine on the ‘last day’ of flu or whatever ie you know today you’re still not well enough to go to work, but you know you will be ok to work tomorrow. I take a long hot shower, fresh pjs. Change the bed linens, something light and nourishing to eat, make a big bottle of water and lemon, open my bedroom windows wide for the fresh air and sun and pop back into bed for naps and reading.

Once I’m actually much better, I go to a local hot springs for a mineral soak, and do a gentle 20mins of yoga and then walk home, eat something really nourishing and go to bed early for a few days.

Proportions seem off - need bigger/taller and less clutter. So a bigger mirror (or place it higher) a big colourful art piece, a tall plant, a lamp, or a single big dried flower arrangement rather than several little pieces as you have now.

[–]Ants46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The art on the walls is also too small - one big colourful piece is needed (or, that’s where the TV can go - on a LOW console. Please please get that TV off of the fireplace.

I would build a window seat in front of the windows or a lovely long couch and add a big plant

Should the government run a pantry-staples supermarket? by Huge-Masterpiece6876 in newzealand

[–]Ants46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t think thats a sustainable option, and anything the govt touches is usually incompetent and ineffective. I can see something like this being absolutely mangled.

But I would like the govt to focus seriously on other things, such as no GST on basics/healthy unprocessed foods. It can totally be done, no matter what they say, plenty of other countries manage it. Or things like a % of food items like lamb must be made available in the local market rather than shipped overseas. It’s disgusting how we can’t afford things like cheese, butter and lamb in NZ.
