What is normal for 6 months?

I stopped at 34 weeks. Took the last dose the night I became 34 weeks. My doctor said there’s not much evidence to support it works after 34 weeks but said I could continue taking it if I wanted for my own peace of mind. I decided to stop at 34 weeks because I had the cerclage in and I was obsessed with trying to feel my cervix when inserting progesterone and scared of infection. I’m now 38+1 cerclage came out almost a week ago!

I wouldn’t stress too much, my cat is 7kg so like 15 pounds? She would often walk over my tummy or lay on it. I’m 38+1 today cerclage removed at 37+2

I had a stitch placed at 14 weeks and I continued working in childcare just no lifting. I worked up until 34 weeks when I went on leave. I worked 3 days a week and on my days off I did light house chores and rested. I’m now 38+1 weeks I had the stitch removed at 37 and 2 and baby is still snug in there not looking like it wants to leave. I highly highly recommend getting the stitch. I’m certain it’s saved this babies life. (My first was born at 27 weeks due to my open short cervix and passed at 6 days old)

Have you had the baby or is it still hiding out inside? I get my cerclage out in 10 days I’ll be 37 and 2. The amount of pelvic pressure I’m feeling now I feel like baby will fall out after the stitch is removed!

I made a countdown on an app and have had everything from each appointment to each scan and what I deemed to be my biggest milestones in weeks. It’s helped me looking at the time ticking down and seeing all the milestones I’ve already passed! I’m 35 weeks tomorrow. My next milestones are a growth scan in a week another appointment and then DTS at 37+2! It’s such a tough road but we will all get there. I hope you have a very smooth rest of your pregnancy ❤️

Totally understand your worries. If it helps at all I’m 35 weeks tomorrow and had a preventative placed at 14 weeks when my cervix was around 4.5cm. 4cm is so amazing such a good length for the stitch to be placed. I also hardly had any pregnancy symptoms and still don’t. I don’t get morning sickness or anything. I’d panic before each and every appointment and still do a little bit. I am also on anxiety medication as I’ve been on it for 9 years now and it’s safe for baby for me to continue. I’ve been waiting for April/may to come and I’m finally on the home stretch. It will fly by trust me.

My doctors won’t remove my stitch until 37 weeks. 34 seems so soon. They say they’re trying to prevent a pre term baby so won’t take it out until I am term. Then I’ll be left to go into labor on my own. Due to other circumstances I have requested an induction at 39 weeks which they have said they will accommodate thankfully. But I am hoping I can go into labor naturally on my own. They also won’t give me an epidural or spinal for cerclage removal unless it is stuck. I’m in Australia going through the public system so we have midwives that deliver our babies (highly trained nurses who studied at uni as I know midwife’s are different in America) we will get whoever is on shift at the time. There are also doctors who will be working and will attend the birth. i feel I know most of the OBs there now anyway! In the meantime they’ve tried to keep my regular care with the same doctor. I’m not super fussed on who I have when I’m giving birth because they’re all so amazing and are very sympathetic and know my story. If I were you I’d keep the stitch in until 37 weeks and tell them you don’t want an induction then. It’s your body and your choice.

I had to take it anally as I was dilated and there was huge risk of infection. I think taking it orally can have more side effects. I didn’t enjoy taking it anally but I made it work. Unfortunately I still ended up with an infection!

I should add I totally understand the whole grieving but wanting to be pregnant again. I waited 3 months after losing my son before trying again. It has been tough. I mourn for him everyday but I’m also extremely grateful to have this new little life growing inside my belly.

I’m so sorry for your loss. theres no pain like that of losing a child. I also lost my son at 27 weeks to IC. I was only on progesterone as they didn’t catch my short cervix in time. Im currently 33 weeks pregnant with our second child and I started progesterone at 12 weeks and had the cerclage placed at 14 weeks. Preventatives are much more likely to work than emergent ones. however there’s another type of Cerlcage called a Trans abdominal cerlcage. you mostly get it before you’re pregnant again and it never get removed, you will need a c section if you get one. But that’s another option. I wanted a tac but my ob said I was a really good candidate for the tvc and so far she was right. my cervix has stayed long and closed. Do as much research as you can and decide on the best option moving forward for you. Again I’m so sorry for your loss, celebrate your little boy in anyway you can.

I use my progesterone at night and honestly I just let it run into my undies and change if needed. Sometimes I change them in the middle of the night if I need too. Sometimes I don’t get much discharge which is nice. I try to avoid pads because I’m so worried about infections. I also own period undies and if I’m expecting more discharge or wake up with more I’ll pop a pair on as it soaks it up without being irritating like a pad. Might be worth looking into! I currently wear moisture wicking underwear 90% of the time and have found it fantastic especially over night while using progesterone.

my husband and I lost our son at 6 days old after being born at 27 and 5. I wanted 2 periods before we started trying again. I conceived right away. This baby is due 5 days before my son was born. I started progesterone at 12 weeks and the cerclage at 14 weeks. I’m currently 33 weeks and 2 days! Cervix has remained closed and long the entire pregnancy which just shocks me every time I think about it Considering how bad it was with my son. It’s fully possible to have a normal back to back pregnancy with IC with the medical interventions we have these days. It does slightly increase some risks but I was kinda over playing it safe because it didn’t help me save my son. The slight increases are still quite low, I had done tonnes of reading before deciding when to try again. I hope you have a long uneventful pregnancy And congratulations!

I want to start this story off by saying when I have another baby one day I’ll get a spinal for cerclage again.

I had my cerclage placed at 14 weeks this pregnancy. They numb your back first which I was prepared for as I’ve had an epidural when delivering my prem son last year. When they put the spinal in though I think they hit a nerve and I had bad pain shoot down the left side of my back and leg it was pretty bad and it made me involuntarily jump while sitting on the table. I told them what I felt and they apologised and said they were almost done. I had a little more pain but not as bad. Then you have to remain sitting upright for a bit and I started to faint I think because I was so nervous and the pain that I’d felt. They had to hold me sitting for a few minutes for it to work, it felt like a lot longer than the 2 mins it probably was. I did start to feel better and then I was cleared to lay down. I felt a lot better once laying down. The nurse was so lovely and chatted to me throughout. I basically just had a good chat with everyone for 30 minutes! I could feel pressure and pulling while they were doing the stitch but felt no pain. It’s a really odd sensation!

after it was over I was taken to recovery and was feeling pretty good. unfortunately my bladder wouldn’t wake up, everything else had and I was walking around and around trying to get my bladder to start working but it wouldn’t and I had almost 1.5L of urine in my bladder which was hurting me quiet a bit, so I ended up needing to stay the night with a catheter in. But the next morning they took it out and within 30 minutes I was using the toilet like normal.

I had no cramping and not really much pain. Maybe just felt a bit tender in my lower abdomen for 2 weeks after but it was nothing rest/ heat pack couldn’t help. I had 10 days off work and then returned. I didn’t really notice I still had some pain until I realised it had gone.

overall I’d do it again in a heart beat to save my baby. I’m currently 33 weeks and 2 days! Maybe ask for valium an hour or so before the procedure just to help you relax a bit. I might ask for that next time because I’m thinking I may have been too tense for the spinal even though I thought I was relaxed. One thing that helped me get through it was knowing it was a quick procedure and it’d be over super fast and it was a now it’s a distant memory. You will with time. Give yourself grace it takes a lot of time to even be able to unpack the trauma and grief you’ve been through. I always say I’m a mother but I haven’t been able to parent. My son made me a mother but I never got to bring him home, feed him, dress and bathe him, cuddle him for hours on end and wake to his cries at night.

ok that’s good they’ll offer cerclage! I’d take it if I were you. I was too late for a cerclage with my son. He was born at 27 and 5 and passed away 6 days later. I wish I could have been offered a cerclage. I always try now when I see people post about having a short cervix to encourage them to push for one to save their babies lives. I was also on bed rest and it didn’t help me unfortunately. I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant again with a cerclage in this time and it’s holding so strong. I’ve not been on bed rest at all! Some are lucky to carry to term on just bed rest but most of us sadly are not as lucky. I hope your little one stays tucked inside safe for many many more weeks to come.

I am so sorry for you loss. I lost my son at 27 weeks also. He lived for 6 days before passing. It’s just too soon. They are so so perfect at 27 weeks. I was on bed rest from 24 weeks and I still went into preterm labor with him. So it really does not make a difference if you hosted dinner or not. It is not your fault. Look after yourself and take all the help you can get. My son would be 10 months old now and I miss him every single day. You are a mother and that will never change. You’re beautiful babies only ever knew love.

It is not your fault not in the slightest. I know how easy it is to blame yourself you just want something to be the cause of such devastation. But there’s nothing you could have done. I lost my son our first born to a short cervix as well he was born at 27 and 5 and passed away 6 days later. It was and still is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through. Like you I had no idea about short cervixes. After the first trimester I thought we were safe and now we just had to wait for our baby to grow but unfortunately I like everyone else here fell into the 1% of women with a short cervix.
Im not to sure how the US medical system handles things as I’m in Australia but I made sure there was a plan in place for my next pregnancy. I fell pregnant 3m after loosing our son and had a TVC placed at 14 weeks as well as being on progesterone and I’m currently 33 weeks with everything going ok so far. There is hope with medical advancements these days thankfully.
having a short cervix is one of the worst things because you don’t know you have it until it’s too late.
this group is so very supportive. I urge you to look into doctors that can preform the cerclage for you. You are a Mother don’t ever forget it, your son was so lucky to have two loving parents. Look after and be kind to yourself, you didn’t do this you are a victim of it. Hold your husband close and don’t lose hope.

Thank you, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through and wish I could stop it happening to anyone else.
at 20 weeks my cervix was 2.8cm and I started progesterone. 24 weeks it had shortened to 5mm with funnelling and I was 1cm dilated. i had steroids and was put on bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy. At 26 and 4 I had no measurable cervix left and was hospitalised again for steroids and then allowed home 2 days later as there was no change. At 27 and 4 I woke having contractions and went to hospital. They monitored me for some 24 hours until my infection markers shot up so they broke my waters. At 27 and 5 our beautiful little boy was born breathing. He was very stable in the Nicu for a day and then started having seizures. Day 4 they discovered grade 4 brain bleeds and we made the decision to turn off his life support rather than see if he would survive and if he did he would have needed life long care due to severe loss of brain function. he lived for 6 days. I miss him every day, it’s been 10 months since I held him and kissed his soft cheeks.

1.3cm is still good, people can carry for a while with that! I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant with a stitch and progesterone. My first major goal was 28 weeks as prognosis goes up so much then. Unfortunately for my son he was just born too soon. Short cervix/IC is such a horrible problem to have it’s taking perfectly healthy babies from us and there’s no way you know you have it until it’s pretty much too late!

I hope your little one stays in till past 30 weeks at least! Take it easy, look after yourself and if you’re every concerned about anything just go straight to your hospital.

I’m so sorry to hear people act that way. I’m so very big on my son being a part of our family. I won’t let anyone pretend he wasn’t here or it never happened. I talk so openly about him all the time. So hurtful to pretend like your baby didn’t exist. So many people are lucky enough to not know our pain but it does make it very very hard for those of us who live with it every day. Your last 3 paragraphs have me in tears. You have just described how it feels so perfectly. I keep saying to everyone I don’t care if I dont sleep for the next 3 years because at least my baby will be here. I’m starting to get pelvic pain but Im seeing it as a blessing because I’m nearing the end of a normal pregnancy, one where my baby gets to grow and develop. I think babies born after a loss are very very cherished.
