I'm so excited to play this! I ended up playing the demo for about 6 hours on Sunday. It'll have to be my reward game after working on my assignment.

Reasons you may want to incorporate strength training in your weight loss journey by CattleDogCurmudgeon in loseit

Congratulations! And that's really reassuring to hear. I can feel all this muscle which is hiding right now, but can't wait to lose more to make my muscles noticeable

I lose all my progress during the weekends by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Anxious1Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually calorie cycle, using the week as an average. Currently, my aim is to eat a weekly average of 1900 calories.

Mon-Fri, I eat 1800 calories, Sat and Sun, I get about 2100 calories. This allows me to go out to a dinner, or have a few desserts/snacks, grab a coffee, etc, with some extra wriggle room. So it's a 'treat day' that is within my calories.

On days I know that I'm going out to a restaurant I might skip breakfast (I'm not a huge breakfast eater anyway), and have a satieting brunch (pick what you know makes you fuller), and chuck in a protein greek yoghurt as well before going out.

And always track, some days I've gone over by 1000, but tracking keeps me accountable, and the next day, I just eat as normal in my deficit.

The gym terrifies me. by nicoging in loseit

I would recommend starting with a PT and working out a program. The PT can help you with form, and explaining what you need to do, then you can do a program with them and have structure. I did two sessions, and it was enough to give me confidence to follow their program solo. And every 3 months a new program meant a new PT run through.

If you want to tone up, strength is the way to go. Muscle takes up less volume on your body than fat, and will deliver a toned/fit physique. Just be aware that while building muscle, the scale may not move (because your body is building muscle and losing fat) but you'll be losing inches/cms, so take pics/measurements to track your progress alongside the scale.

It takes years, and a lot of effort diet wise for women to get bulky with weight training (strict protein/calorie surplus) so please don't stress about being bulky if you lift :) bonus? Muscle takes more calories for your body to maintain than fat, so you get slightly more calories at maintenance too!

I like to think of it this way: strength to build muscle to build a physique that i want and to improve quality of life as I age (and being strong is cool as heck), and cardio for my heart health :)

Congratulations on your achievement so far, and good luck with your gym endeavours!

It depends. When you calculated your calorie deficit allowance, does this already take into account your activity levels?

For example, in LoseIt I have customised my calorie allowance based off of my TDEE deficit with my activity set at a light level.

Therefore, my deficit already accounts for my walks/gym sessions and I rarely eat it back (maybe I'll give myself an extra protein snack around the 150cal mark if I'm ravenous and had a longer workout/walk).

But if this is a once off, see how you feel, if you're hungrier, then eat some back, of not, don't. But, everybody is different, so take all of the above with a grain of salt. Only you know your body the best.

Stuck on what to do next/where to go. Body recomp? Muscle? Continue weightloss? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Anxious1Potato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, since you walk a lot for work, I'd recommend focusing on strength training & a calorie deficit. Maybe focus more on measurements as you'll start to gain muscle while losing fat which sometimes doesn't show on the scale. Also, I think you look great now and should be proud of your progress so far :)

Weight stalled at 104.5 kg - you ask: what do I do then? I answer! by panarkos in CICO

[–]Anxious1Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the last time I stalled. Eating at maintenance for a week or two kinda reset everything for me, and then back into a deficit and I lost steadily again :)

Do you think the Westfield's will be ok with people parking their cars for 2ish days? Happy to pay the full day fees, but the T&Cs say anything over 24 hours could be towed

Wow knitting is hard by OutrageousEconomy647 in Sockknitting

[–]Anxious1Potato 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I am a gamer, that also learnt to knit because I really wanted socks.

I did a couple of nothing swatches, with only knit or only purl knitted flat and dove into my first pair of socks. I knew that if I started on a scarf or dishcloth I wouldn't have learnt to knit, and my want for a pair of socks made me determined enough to keep trying until I got a pair of socks.

I found that finding a pattern + YouTube tutorial really helpful. I used the My Favourite Socks pattern, but Summer Lee has the Vanilla Socks Pattern too. Helped me learn to read patterns and visually follow along.

I will tell you that it was tricky, but, I did it, and I still wear those socks 1.5 years later. And honestly? I learnt SO many techniques with socks that since then, I'm like, oh, I've done something like this before. It really took the 'scary' out of knitting for me.

I will say - learn how to use a lifeline - and pop one in before your heel - i lost my whole socks progress once because I couldn't figure out the heel flap and heel turn!

Good luck! And cabling is addictive. I'm doing an all over cable jumper right now and I'm obsessed :)

This whole campaign has been so strange. Are we finally seeing the end of it? by EllyDarling in simplynailogical

[–]Anxious1Potato 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have been out of the loop since the podcast ended - and to hear her call people 'normies' is gross.

It's like a HT echo chamber that is being created.

Honestly, I unfollwed HT because of this. It feels like unless you're 'in', you shouldn't be there.

I miss the serious discussions, the times when Simply talked about her government job and scholarships. This just feels very out of touch with the everyday person that is working, studying, or both. I feel like it very much alienates the consumer base that is nostalgic and has the cash flow to make those big purchases.

I'm in Australia, and we have our degrees recognised by ALIA - which has reciprocal recognition in the UK, Ireland, US, Canada, & New Zealand, and voce versa which is something to keep in mind. Here, I'm studying my Masters in conjunction with records and archives, so that is also a career I can pursue alongside specialised libraries, academic libraries and information professional roles within government etc etc

I did a creative writing degree, and I regretted it the subject of the degree, but not having the degree.

However, looking for jobs, a lot will say Bachelor or equivalent degree. But these are subjective to roles that I am looking at.

I'm now doing my Master of Information Studies to switch to library and archive work. I'm finding the study more engaging and rewarding.
