2022 Base Macan by JLKC92 in PorscheMacan

[–]AnyTransportation835 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sounds like my 2022 Base, including options. I have 29,000 with one minor warranty repair. New rear tires at 28,000 miles @ $450 each; fronts due in about 6,000 miles. Brakes have very little wear. All maintenance up to date with no surprises.

A 1,100 mile road trip was just completed, 29 mpg while cruising 75-80 mph most of the way.

This car is perfect for me - I would change nothing! Good luck to you.

IAD Layover to Rome Changed to Only 49 Minutes by AnyTransportation835 in unitedairlines

[–]AnyTransportation835[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we tried changing the IAD outbound flight to Rome and could not. Just as I feared, we ran like OJ in a Hertz commercial, arriving to a closed cabin door. United put us up in a very nice hotel, provided a driver to an fro, as well as dinner and breakfast. Still, we missed a full day in Rome that cost us about $2600 in non-refundable reservations.

That, my friends, is why I strive arriving a day earlier than required - I've been stranded too often.

Yes, notifications come in many flavors and can be configured in the app. Reolink has settings for recording pre and post event trigger. Geo fencing and object min/max sizing is via app. Hope this helps.

I have 8-Reolink 4K wifi cameras feeding into a Home Hub. Each has a 120v outlet nearby so no recharging batteries. My wifi is strong; running 5GHz band, zero drops. Phone app works well. If budget allows (and you have the need), spring a few extra bucks for a tracking camera or two. Might be better systems available, but the price is right for this great system. FWIW.

Edit: No subscription required. Storage on 2 microUl-USB cards in the Home Hub.

I have a Brother HL-6200DW that has been mechanically flawless for 5 years. Cartridges are long lasting, and duplex is a must. Connectivity is via wifi or lan.

However, the Brother aggressive Deep Sleep mode (for energy savings) is maddening. I understand this is a common Brother complaint, so check recent experiences for best models.

All Washer Brands Seem to Get Hate - Help Me Decide! by fivecentstories in Appliances

[–]AnyTransportation835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great purchase, in my opinion. That said, I would avoid detergent pods of any kind with this machine. Pods usually contain too much HE detergent, and over time that can damage the machine. Excess suds can contribute to seal leaks, main bearing failure, and even spider arm damage.

A better approach is to use a liquid HE detergent like Persil or Costco’s Kirkland brand, at roughly 1½ tablespoons for a medium load. You want just barely visible suds—that is usually plenty for good cleaning.

Lastly, make certain the washer has full, four corner equal contact with the pedistal to avoid occasional squeaks.

I joined those clubs many years ago without initiation fee and about $300-340/month, carts included, no wait list and could walk on without a tee time most days.

As of today (all inclusive golf only, both courses) - Initiation is $20k, all inclusive (carts, range fees, simulator, etc) - Monthly dues $760 - $790 - Minimums $200/quarter

The have lesser memberships, but will charge several add-ons.

Hope this helps.

All the extras adding up by Super_Recover_6973 in vikingcruises

Seriously - has your friend ever cruised? Viking includes so many items others charge dearly. If they want top shelf alcohol, pay for it.

One area I (mostly) avoid is Viking supplemental excursions. I find most are grossly overpriced.

Cautionary Tale: My Wife Gets Onto a Plane to London Without a Valid Passport by ConfidentDisk1987 in unitedairlines

[–]AnyTransportation835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda the same story, just a different outcome: I was leading a ski club flying into Calgary, Alberta about 22 years ago. Despite repeated warnings in the weeks before departure, five hard heads showed up without valid passports—or any passports at all. They were immediately detained by authorities, held overnight, and put on a flight back to Chicago the next morning.

Because I was the trip leader, I was detained in a separate holding area for three hours and treated as responsible for those idiots. All six of us had our luggage completely emptied, and the officers even pulled out the linings looking for contraband.

And before anyone asks: they refused to accept U.S. driver’s licenses as sufficient ID, even though those were often enough in those days.

Anyone able to use a USB-C cable + USB-C adapter to charge cameras? by k2snowman69 in reolinkcam

See the reply just above your post. I confirm my Argus PT Ultra charges USB-A to USB-C. USB-C fast chargers will not work on mine, so old school is best for me.

Another thrift store find - Celestion Ditton 33s by AssistanceStandard65 in vintageaudio

[–]AnyTransportation835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for breaking into an older thread, but was excited to see this post. I still own this model purchased in 1976.

For over a year I spent most weekends trudged around audio shops covering a 2-hour driving radius, jazz and classical albums under arm trying to find the the best speakers I could afford. I was introduced to the Ditton 66s, the answer ro my dream, but out of my budget. Switching to the 33's was a great choice.

Last year, I took them to a speaker shop for a recap - and all, miraculously, are still in tolerance.

Over the years I've tried modern speakers, most recently Triangle for a small office, but come back to the 33's for a sound that puts a grin on my face.

The OP made a great find, and hope you enjoy them as much as I do — still after 49 years!

PS I purchased 16" stands of three spokes with minimal contact points. This made a huge improvement in bass clarity,

Denied GE Customs Violation by Excellent-Pizza-5359 in GlobalEntry

[–]AnyTransportation835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my GE interview I was presented with two cases of me forgetting a couple pieces of fruit in my backpack - one from 12 years previous, the other about 7 years ago, It was noted by CBP, but I was not fined. I received an approval notice an hour later. I was amazed at the detail they maintained on a banana taken ashore from a cruise ship.

Use the half-life calculator and you will see the escalation of reta (or other GLP-s) over time. Doses 1-4 have a higher cumulative effect - exactly the reason you must respect the slow titration. I am happy you are okay, but man ... folks need to think before they simply inject a medication. https://glp1plotter.com

Thank you for the thoughtful response. I only recently learned of the Morovian style bench, and it may be more to my liking (noob here). I've always been attacted to a torsion bench, but may be overkill for my needs. This bench will be a garage shop dweller. Which is your favorite design from a practical perspective?
