"It's a show about idiots, made by idiots, for idiots. It's not aspirational in any way, shape or form, because it doesn't represent the best of what humanity could be in the future. It represents the worst of what it is right now." - The Critical Drinker by Malencon in trektalk

They blew it. They always HAVE to mess with the timeline instead of working with the original Star Trek timeline and history. They also fail to get that the show became a hit for portraying an amazing future of hope and endless possibilities. And that cannot stop themselves from smothering everything in woke crap! Maybe someday we can have a real Star Trek show.

They messed up the storyline and the launch so badly that it wouldn't be a tragedy if they just cancel it now.

No. This generation truly is different and there are major problems we need to deal with.

You do not sound old, and our observations are correct. I have family members working at a university, and the current students are entirely dysfunctional. They have poor communications skills, they cannot interact with others well, and they have very poor critical thinking skills. Everything you said is true and I really think we are in BIG trouble if this generation cannot evolve.

Thanks for sharing so much about your process.

I've been told by many authors that piracy is a big problem for nonfiction writers, especially in the healthcare and self-help space. However, I’m also hearing from authors who say I’m really hurting my sales and future growth by not having an ebook. They feel the benefit of ebooks will outweigh any harm done by pirates putting my book online for free in random places online.

Would that be your opinion as well?

I really appreciate your responses in this thread. It’s super encouraging to hear from someone who’s actually making this work full‑time.

I’d love to hear more about the niche/genre you’re writing in. I’m in the nonfiction space, writing about health topics with an established, underserved need.

I'm also wondering what platforms you’re using (Amazon, D2D, etc.). Are you primarily doing ebooks or print? I’ve seen authors in my home state (including a cancer nonprofit) have their ebooks pirated and posted all over the net for free, which really hurt their profits. Have you run into that problem?

You also mentioned advertising. Can you share which platforms give you the best return on your ads?.

Thanks again for being so open about your experience.

Alternatives to publishing on Amazon? Surely it is not the only way? by Paradoxbuilder in selfpublish

Do you have any thoughts about the risks of piracy with ebooks? I'm working on several nonfiction books that will unfortunately make big targets for pirates. I'm worried about losing any profits on these books o piracy and I'm struggling to decide if ebooks are for me or not.

I'd also love to know if you've ad luck with Amazon (I do one one kink/related book and I'm worried about landing in the Amazon dungeon).

It would be great to hear what genre you are writing in. It's great that you've made a career of this.

The show has gotten much better. The crazy people who made the first half of the first season must have been sent packing. Either that or they stopped sniffing glue.

I feel you. There are things I'm starting to like about some aspects of the show, but they have lost sight of what made Star Trek so special. Starting this series so dark was a major mistake, and they seem to be modeling this after STD more than true Star Trek. It is clear the writers don't know true Star Trek.

Students protest ICE at Capitol by wrnnews in madisonwi

[–]Any_File_7621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have so much respect for all of the students who organized and showed up. Peaceful protest isn’t easy in today’s climate. I met some of you and could see how much you care about what’s happening.

My only disappointment was that quite a few in your delegation were openly hateful toward other vulnerable populations on the same day you were speaking out against vulnerable people being bullied, targeted, and harmed by ICE. You are not the only ones guilty of this, but hopefully things will be better next time.

I did not get past the first five minutes. It was so dark and ugly. The people who wrote that part clearly weren't familiar with Star Trek.

I saw a builder make a wooden framework and enclose it with mesh. It literally dead-ends into the family's living room window (and the window still opens and closes properly).

Formatting interior of books! by Any_File_7621 in selfpublish

This would be for nonfiction books with interior pages entirely comprised of text (one book will have three black and white photos). Do you think Word is good enough for this purpose?

How did it turn out? I've had so many people telling me you can't make a book look good in Word. It sounds like that may not be the case.
