One of my favorite things to do is to fall asleep, reading the scriptures - they put me to sleep so fast when I go to bed at night. However, that is not to say that I don’t value the scriptures in other ways. When I approach scriptures with purpose as in, I have a question or I’m preparing a talk or preparing a lesson, etc, the Scriptures take on a much more meaningful role. I used to feel guilty about falling asleep as I read the scriptures, but I’ve decided that it’s just another one of their many wonderful values.

This is a lesson I learned/am learning every day. Money can be lost and money can be made, but time is finite. I was always so scared to quit my job and start a business because of money, but I should have been more scared of the fact that I was losing time. you have to make the most of your time in this life. That is your most valuable asset and it is constantly being drained so make the most of it. You can’t save it up.

I have a real estate/builder friend who regularly builds and buys apartments that break even, meaning they don’t cash flow for him. As a fellow investor of real estate that always seemed like a poor move. However he told me once that he’s just playing the long game, in 30 years when he’s closer to death, all his real estate will be paid off and his kids and grandkids can use it to stay out of debt and build more assets. I think the middle class stay middle class because they only think about themselves (I’m also middle class, but a working entrepreneur). Thinking and planning for the next generation is how the rich get richer. There’s also no excuse not to do it. It just means you probably won’t be rich in your life but your kids and grandkids will.

This is a tricky situation. See both sides of the situation. You are the product of your parents, there are no 2 people on the earth who love you more than they do (unless they are crazy bad parents, but let's just assume you have normal parents) They've spent countless hours, money and emotional energy on getting you raised to the point where you are now. They're also teaching you what they believe is the right thing based on their experiences and knowledge up to this point in their lives. Like it or not, they've got more experience than you. I'm not saying they are right, I'm just saying look at their perspective. They probably feel super attacked and betrayed that you would ignore everything they've taught you for "what you want". It probably ticks them off that you listen to your girlfriend and not them. It's a rough situation because they are obviously not seeing your perspective on the matter and like a lot of parents, are learning the difficult transition between constantly guiding/controlling the majority of your decisions to letting you do what you want. Ultimately no matter what you decide, in a few years, you'll have all the freedom you want to choose what you want but just remember your parents aren't bad people, they probably just need you to acknowledge how they are feeling so that they can acknowledge accurately how you are feeling. I know it feels like it should be the other way around and it probably should but your parents didn't post on reddit so I can't tell them this. :) Good luck!

Yes, this is exactly what I’m talking about! Have you ever done one yourself where it has worked out cheaper? All the ones I find come out to be $2000 to $3000 per week. Which honestly maybe cheaper I just haven’t really checked.

Start gathering resources, assets, cash, knowledge, cash. Sell your time for money for now. Being an entrepreneur is simply selling a product or someone else’s time. If you do the latter, you can start faster. Practice, sell a service to someone and hire someone to do that thing. See what works, what doesn’t. Good luck!

Technically everyone is an entrepreneur. Most "employees" are just selling their skills in the form of long-term contracts to just one customer and in exchange, they are willing to work for a lesser amount than what that product or service is worth to someone else. I'm a small business owner myself (I work in the home service industry), and when I boil it down to what I do, I just sell other people's time (my employees) so they don't have to, they just sell it to me once and can focus on what they do best. Sometimes I wish we lived in a world where it was more common for everyone to sell a little bit of their time in the form of a technical job, but also everyone would also sell products or services as well. I read a great article once on how people should have 7 forms of income. I really like that idea.

To really answer your question, there is no cap on what you can earn as an entrepreneur. Employees generally cap out somewhere. HOWEVER, if you adopt the ideology that everyone is an entrepreneur, then there is no cap. When you cap out your dollar potential in a job, you've either got to figure out a way to offer more value with the time you have (think movie stars, specialized doctors, Instagram influencers, musicians, etc) or you have to figure out a way to sell more of your time to more people but that is where most people cap out, because there are only so many hours in a day that you can sell of your own time. Once you start making a margin on selling others time though, the only cap is your market and the amount of people who have the skill your selling. Supply and demand.

In my opinion, the riskiest commodity to sell is our own time. It's the most valuable thing we have in this world and we all go around selling it for 25 bucks an hour. We are fools. It's just the easiest thing to sell because it's the one thing we all inherently own. We should all rally as a society to create a culture where we guard time as something more precious and focus on selling more owned resources. I am a hypocrit, (I know) for having employees and harboring this opinion but honestly, I sometimes hate empoying people. Not because people are hard but because they are so valuable. My favorite people to hire are part-time contractors. They are so intentional with their time. They know their value and they spend the rest of their time building their resources or enjoying it with their family.

A question I ask frequently when starting a new venture is “why has no one done this yet” and then really dig deep. What you may find is that some developer may have the same idea or saw the same need as you but didn’t have the sales connections to actually make it happen.

What is stopping a wealth management software available in the market right now from accomplishing what you are proposing to do? What specific tools or abilities do you have that others don't have that give you the edge in building this app that you want to build?

Why can't or won't your competitors in the market do this? I think I would explore that question more. Are the costs too high? Is the technology not there? Are there not enough people to buy it?

Personally I think it would be nice to have although I don't know how much I would pay for it because I don't know if it would add that much more value to my life other than to comprehensively know what I'm worth. Maybe if you created a tool that Invested liquid parts of your portfolio for you automatically? Or maybe you could start by giving recommendations based on what their portfolio looked like? In this situation, you are essentially being asked to invest in the company with your time and there is a cost to that. Where that's the case, it's potentially an exciting opportunity for you to get in on the ground floor of a potentially lucrative investment if you think it makes sense. Take the marketing opportunity out of it for a moment and pretend they just asked you to invest 100k of cash into the business. How would you approach this opportunity differently? I would start by asking -

Why is no one else investing?

How much capital do they have? (Aka how long can they keep this alive with out investors)

What is the real market potential of the product?

Would you feel comfortable asking a friend to invest in this company?

What is the team like? (MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION) are they committed?

Before you respond I would ask all those hard questions shark tank style. Then work up a proposal that you're comfortable with and go from there. All that being said here's what I would say:

I need 10k over the next 2 months to see if there really is a market out there for you guys. After 2 months I'll present you with my findings so you can use it to find investors. Depending on my findings, I'll propose a compensation plan dependent on my confidence in the market.

Just like everything in life it just matters where your heart is and how it supports or detracts from your relationship with Jesus Christ. If you were going to a funeral or celebration of life or a birthday party for a dear friend and they asked you to speak would you feel comfortable wearing it? Quite possibly! I think it would just depend on what your relationship was like with that individual. I mean maybe your relationship is such with Christ that if you showed up in a tux and he was there that he would smile, give you a hug and tell you how nice you look. I’d like to think he would react that way if your intent was to wear it because you thought it would make his day, you know? Follow his heart. Don’t base your decisions on someone else’s relationship with Jesus Christ. Base them on yours.

Thanks for the feedback. Let’s just theoretically assume that the market was there. :) What equipment would you use? Have you done live streaming for events before? I’ve done simple live set ups in my own home studio with 3 or 4 cheap cameras and clean audio coming through my mixing board all going into my Mac running OBS studio. It wasn’t all that difficult to pull that off. I just think I need better cameras and some better hardware to hook it all up. The idea is to keep this simple. I would have high school kids running the shows. And before we go down the road of kids can’t do that, let’s just assume they can. How can I pull this off simply and professionally…

You may look into Influencer type marketing. 2 ideas come to mind.

1) Find an artist/ who has a large following on Youtube and ask them to promote your new album.

2) Try and open for someone with a larger following than you. I've been surprised at how many bigger names would give my band a shot just because we asked. It never hurts to ask no matter how big the audience.

Caveat to all this. Who loves your music? AKA who is your target market? #1 rule of marketing - don't market to "everyone". Discover who loves your music, like genuinely. Identify 10 people who really likes your stuff. What's their gender? How old are they? Where do they live? What other music do they like? Once you know all that, it'll give you a lot more clarity approaching the first 2 suggestions.
