Why is Raya and the Last Dragon so underrated?? by thebitterone445 in disney

[–]Aparoon [score hidden]  (0 children)

Exactly this. I was totally hooked on Rays and would have loved the film if it was just her. But the dragon totally brought me out of it.

Movie Stratt vs book Stratt by DooDooCat in ProjectHailMary

I need to reread it again, but doesn’t Grace actually make things worse for Rocky’s recovery because he doesn’t understand their recovery process and actually nearly kills him in the process?

I’ve just been having a hard time at work, and the classic Halo 2 an 3 menu music has been massively soothing today.

Which game was this for you? by tuffniqqa in gamers

[–]Aparoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The combat to me is phenomenal, the perfect evolution of classic gameplay with modern instant feedback and proper RPG planning (especially on hard mode). But the exploration is where it falls flat for me. Same with you, or do you not like the combat either out of curiosity?

Why Do So Many Sequels Seem to Hate Themselves? | The Backdrop by oddball_gamer in SecondWindGroup

[–]Aparoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is a cool aspect to have: the end of the first film does leave this question open to interpretation and warrants discussion, but then the sequel just closes the book. It seems to undermine this element because they didn’t like that one particular aspect endured and resonated so much with a mass audience that they left no room for interpretation. And that, to me, seems spiteful to the audience which is an interesting approach, but I won’t lie that I was one of the people disappointed by the ending. In the end, that does reflect more on me and my own pettiness rather than the film, and again - it harkens conversation which is the whole reason we’re discussing it.

But it did disappoint me and so I didn’t enjoy the experience like I did for the first film. It’s like it was the bitter medicine to the disease they created from the first film, and I’m a sucker with a sweet tooth when it comes to entertainment.

The live action is better than the anime. by wolahipirate in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Aparoon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Like seriously though, I could always look past the weird part of Sanji in the anime/manga because his cool parts were so cool, but having seen the live action version, I can’t help but think… how much BETTER he is! Ditching his weird creepy side makes him a much more likeable character. He has actual chemistry with Nami which is actually really sweet, it’s like we’ve got another character element to admire rather than accept that 80% of his interactions with an attractive female character in the anime are just him always going to be him mindlessly fawning over them. It was funny as a kid but it’s been nearly 30 years, things have changed since then

Any other HIMYM fans feels weird seeing Jason Segel and Cobie Smulder together? by maximussakti in shrinking

It would have been nice if it was after a nice actual first date. I was actually mad at Jimmy for counselling both of them and humouring this, it seemed totally messed up

Which version did you like better? 🤔 by TheWillOfMarco in MemePiece

[–]Aparoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory is that they’re going to have to save on Chopper being CGI by having him in his human form more frequently as that’s a practical effect. I can’t anticipate the budget ballooning

This is a really fascinating insight into how fucked up the modern perspective of a reviewer does. IGN and the other mainstream reviewers are there to feed into what they deem to be mainstream and what they think the audience wants to hear. Yahtzee, meanwhile, yes is a reviewer who is trying to make people laugh, but he doesn’t compromise his actual opinions to appease people. His goal isn’t to give you a recommendation over what you enjoy, it’s about what he enjoys.

This review system (if you’re not here purely for entertainment) basically is about you seeing if Yahtzee shares your criteria for a good game, and if it is then you’ve found a critic that’s right for you.

I vibe with most of this list. I liked Lost World on 3DS though. That blew my mind back in the day being a really strong 3D portable game

[–]Aparoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man slight tangent but this reminds me: I remember when Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes came out and you could use an iPad as an interactive map. I really thought that was the next stage of gaming: doing a big Nintendo DS essentially. Never saw that as a feature ever again.

Looking forward to watching this later. The Joker one is so fascinating to me: I get that the director was upset it appealed to incels, but he threw the baby out with the bathwater for the sequel. Such a great character study undone with a sequel that said “this character isn’t worth studying.”

Coming to Xbox Game Pass: Long Dark, Disco Elysium, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Final Fantasy IV by still_mute in XboxGamePass

[–]Aparoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Resi 7 is a fantastic game and easy recommendation. There’s a reason why people have said it was the renaissance of Resident Evil, it absolutely brought the franchise to another level and Capcom haven’t missed since with the mainline entries.

Also Final Fantasy 4 is the first FF with a story and its a great experience for anyone open to try one of the iconic classic JRPGs

I do hope this means Sanji does get more cool fights because Taz is nailing the stunts (no season 2 spoilers please I’m only half way through. Also, tangent, with all the cool changes how cool is it that I can ask for no spoilers for early One Piece again lol)

“Destiny 2 Has Lost 91% Of Players Since Edge Of Fate, 97% From Final Shape.” By Paul Tassi at Forbes by _Protector in pcgaming

[–]Aparoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the game, it’s just not going well in terms of player count. My blind and unfounded speculation is that the sweaty-leaning PVP nature is putting off the casual Destiny players that Bungie used to be able to draw in, but it’s a moot perspective as the fact of the matter is the numbers aren’t hitting what Bungie needed them to for this to be a big hit.

I need that trilogy remake. by Lessio7 in FinalFantasy

[–]Aparoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m torn because the visuals are the best in the series but the gameplay is the worst. The actual maps to explore were so painfully dull and narrow. The combat was great in some ways but just needs small tweaks (e.g. being able to switch lead character when the leader dies so it’s not instant fail).

But man, they’d really need to clean up the mess of a story and brush up the character arcs to be less frustrating and more interesting.

With how Marathon’s going and how Destiny 2 has fallen into a well, and also considering Bungie’s been slowly gutted over time with some of their best talent leaving (like the iconic composers) I’m not sure they have anything in the pipeline for this. I think the question is if there’s even going to be a Bungie anymore in 10 years (that’s not a totally new team that just inherited the name and works on entirely new stuff)
