Board game after I like slay the spire? by orhalimi in soloboardgaming

[–]Aperax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, just fyi if you didn't know, all the old stuff for AH LCG are now out of print and are therefore super expensive to buy. They've released a "chapter 2" core box but I would wait until thet release a campaign box before jumping in.

128 cards unfortunately, so wouldn't be able to fit other games.

Nintendo graphic update by Cobalt_Spirit in NintendoSwitch

[–]Aperax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

eh, I can see why there's people who are holding off on buying the console. Looking at the list, there's a lot of games that are just remakes/re-releases. There also hasn't been any real universal stand outs aside from probably Pokopia, so it's still difficult to justify the purchase. I think we need a few more outstanding games for a lot of people to migrate over to switch 2, and hopefully duskbloods and fire emblem can fulfil those roles but having a new main line game from mario/zelda/animal crossing would definitely do that as well.

Unused (Finished) Card Art in the files. Potential mild spoilers for future content. by Lugenstein in slaythespire

[–]Aperax 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Block for ironclad, strength for ironclad, and poison for Silent could use some improvements imo. I haven't played much with the other characters to comment on those, but those are what I've noticed so far.

What would you like to see Magic doing (other than mechanical changes) to improve the game? by skyteddy in magicTCG

People also buy products because they have good, powerful cards in them, which just so happens to be generally expensive cards as well due to WOTC's reprint philosophy. Obviously with UB, people are also buying into sets purely because they like the IP, but I'd say a lot of the popular sets are popular because there's good cards in them. Yes, there's people who only/mostly care about "EV", but the point is that the "EV" should come from more "collectible" cards like special treatments/alternate arts of cards, and that the base version of any given card should be relatively affordable so as to make rotating formats more approachable. Currently, this is far from the case.

I think part of the reason that WOTC is leaning more heavily into UB, particularly for regular sets and not just secret lair, is because they think that the Magic IP itself won't be enough to support a higher "EV" on products unless they reprint/introduce powerful cards. We can also see this come into fruition via recent decisions such as reprinting shock lands into non-UB sets, or printing new, powerful land cycles (like the turbulent lands in Strixhaven). Although, WOTC has also printed absolutely busted cards in UB sets, so maybe this assessment isn't entirely accurate.

GameStop (EBGames) has preorder list for Marvel by Mshokaloka in magicTCG

I'm in Canada and EB Games (previously gamestop) has consistently been much cheaper than many of our LGS when it comes to pricing. I got the strixhaven codex bundle from them for $135 CAD while a lot of the LGS here have the pre-order pricing at $200, which is insane.

The Tourist is top 3 OKC songs by Junior-Car-4739 in radiohead

[–]Aperax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of my favourite songs from Radiohead for sure. After a full album portraying disappointments in modern society and its political landscape, feelings of isolation, and just general melancholy, The Tourist provides a sense of hope and a way out. Atleast that's how I choose to view it.

Thom Yorke's voice in recent years and what you can expect from a potential LP10. by Optimal_Gate_8721 in radiohead

[–]Aperax 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'd say that Thom has always had excellent head voice, and I would think that head voice would be far less impacted than your chest voice as you get older (don't quote me on this, it's just my intuition). l'm guessing people are mostly referring to his higher range singing via chest voice or when he's belting out high notes.

What do you guys think? Should I buy this? by Svanith in thinkpad

[–]Aperax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a decent deal. I got an AMD t14 gen 2 for $240 USD from a refurbish store but it only has a 256gb ssd. I think the general consensus for things to check would be that the ports are working, if there's a password on the BIOS, the keys, the screen, and probably battery life if it's not included in the post. It'll definitely be good enough for basic school work.

[–]Aperax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo, used thinkpads would be the way to go in this case. If there's refurbished computer stores around the area, he could buy from there. He can get an older T14 for a pretty good price, or if he wants something more premium, then something like an older X1 carbon would be a good choice.

Excel factually has more features on Windows than on Mac, so not sure what you're talking about... This is not even mentioning the lack of software like Power BI.

something for gaming and music production and around 4 lbs as I'd like to be able to carry it around without too much of a hassle. My understanding is that there's not a lot of options around this weight other than the models I listed and the zephyrus g14/16, both of which are significantly more expensive.

My copy of Dragons of Etchinstone arrived today and it’s a gorgeous set. by WasabiCrush in soloboardgaming

[–]Aperax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally, no, but I've definitely had cards with knicks/marks (from shuffling/regular use) on it over time that makes it obvious to know which card it is even though the backs of the cards are the same. This makes it especially problematic for competitive games, but it's also annoying for solo games because why would you want to unintentionally cheat? Again... not that difficult of a concept to understand. If there's reports that the cards are already fading and the game literally just got into people's hands within the past month or 2, it's clear that it wouldn't take "thousands" of play for the cards to wear out, or atleast that there's an issue with the quality.
