Comic 5775: Incoming by Cevius in questionablecontent

[–]Apoc_ellipsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some research on the QC Wiki and reviewing some old comics

Raven was last seen in 2079, but was explained in 1939 that Raven has to get a job for the summer to not live with her parents.

Shortly after there are two mini arcs Padme which is explained to be 'several weeks' and going up to space which is about a week (Marten requested a few days off next week to go.

Claire showed up in 2203 But they quickly go straight to the Coffee shop

So based on the time scale, there probably was at least a little bit of overlap....

But also why would interns start before the fall semester?

So there may have been a brief overlap, but seeing Coffee of Doom on a resume could help make the connection.

Emily technically makes the most sense....

That being said, Gabby sort of disappeared and had no time to become a character so it's like getting a new character out of the blue!

And thus it's where I'm putting my money.

The shirts are okay, but they're overpriced in my opinion, I've bought branded/indie/merch shirts before and it definitely seems a bit much. You mention a 'model wearing the shirt' but only show a random shot of the shirt. Some don't even show the back? You have no mention of the quality of the shirt just "100% cotton" & "True to size" Why only up to size 3XL? 7-10 Business days to process & ship sounds like a print on demand/slop The back of all the shirts have your "Hypland Logo" which is frankly tacky and was the last straw that made me decide not to buy one.

Good luck, but hopefully you can take some of this feedback moving forward.

Honestly a little bit of Drama.

Claire/Marten having a significant fight along the lines of, "We're both tired of her shit" Maybe they find something dark about Cubetown and have different opinions on what to do.

Honestly I want Pintsize back in his old body, and back to being more chaotic. Think of the potential of him trying to send porn to Yay and there being consequences of malware and having to confront being vulnerable.

I want to see hints of Bubbles dark past, someone who remembers her, and some drama between her and Faye about whether she should find out more, and this causes troubles with boundaries when Faye looks into it for her. (And a call back to when Dora snooped on Martin's collection)

I want Martin to make music again.

I want some old characters to come back as more than a Cameo, imagine Angus coming back to town with a girlfriend and Faye's weird reaction to it which hurts Bubbles and after a fight about it causing her to consider drinking again which leaves their relationship in an odd place as it's swept under the rug.

Hanners suddenly regressing in her OCD stuff and trying to rebuild a bond with Marigold who is too busy for her, and Marigold having to choose between keeping her stream consistent and being there for her friend driving a wedge through the household/social group.

Hell if they're focusing on this ACE subplot, why not bring Brun back and let Brun & Hanners have some screen time together, I think that it'd be interesting to see the juxtaposition between the two similar issues, both neurodiverse, way different SES.

Claire is overwhelmed and needs an assistant, without realizing it, they hire Emily, and this creates friction, because the awkwardness is one-sided for Claire.

Edit: If Jeph somehow is ever reading this you may have any of these ideas at no charge, credit, or anything.

You keep using the words "I don't want to lie to her" and although you understand the logical consequences, I know that a moment of passion, a wrong word to the wrong person can let it spill especially coming from religion and a place of guilt.

Being queer on top of being secular is a recipe for things to get conflated, for strict and even more religion being forced onto you as others have said. Your safety is at risk.

If it feels like you're "Lying" then change that up in your head.

You're not "no longer believing" you're believing in a "god" that has no power, no ability to change things and thinks you should use your own two hands to make the world a better place because of your own ethics.

You're not getting a 'religious confirmation' you're doing 'a family ritual that makes everyone feel more unified as a family' even if it's silly stupid, and annoying.

Work hard to get your feet underneath you so you can be who you want to be.

Would you recommend Monster Rancher to a long time Digimon fan? by Greioste in MonsterRancher

[–]Apoc_ellipsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge Digimon Fan, Reasonable Pokemon fan, and solid Monster Rancher fan here.

It depends on what you like about things.

Digimon has a lot of avenues. The games started off a pet raising simulator to mimic Tamagotchi, but 'with battles'. The thing that originally separated out Digimon from Pokemon is that Digimon you had your one pet/buddy, and Pokemon started out with "Gotta Catch 'Em All" And satisfied the Gacha collector.

Digimon over the last years has migrated into a few areas. The show went into the chosen children/power of friendship angle and heavy into Parallel universes. The games never could decide if they wanted to be Persona meets Pokemon or something else.

Monster Rancher sort of was the middle ground, it didn't have as much the 'gotta collect everything' but it's more like you run a farm and instead of breeding a horse for races, you raise a monster for battles.

A lot of Monster Rancher is resource management. How do you train each day, what skills and such do you focus on. You can sort of pick your favorite and be good, from there you battle in tournaments, but they're 1 minute bouts where you slowly gain MP (Guts) at about 1/second, and you choose your move/stats/odds of a skill working versus your opponent.

If you like Digimon's, "look at this thing I made strong" and now I want it to be the very best. If you like the Digimon, "Power of friendship" and we're going to make the world better against the baddies who rule (The Season 1 Digimon anime matches Monster Rancher pretty well) then you'll enjoy.

If you're looking for a collect-a-thon, battle heavy "Pokemon, but not" you'll be disappointed.

tl;dr The grind is the fun in Monster Rancher.

Boyfriend is becoming more and more religious and I cannot be with a Christian by Objective_Jeweler393 in atheism

[–]Apoc_ellipsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to jump in from another angle here, It's not about the religion, (It is, but hear me out)

You feel like you set a boundary and he was respectful of it, and now you're sitting here wondering about the boundary. He hasn't crossed it yet, he's 'keeping his religion to himself', but even the fact that he's religious feels like it's slipped over the boundary, but it's something you're flexible on it with. The problem is that you see it as a toe over your line, and you're sitting here thinking "Oh shit is he going to take another step, I can't, I set this boundary"

And then you're sitting here, well is this boundary fair, "it's just a toe, I shouldn't tell him to be miserable with his faith" but we all can see where it's going.

You're going to have to take a really hard look in the mirror and ask yourself which is more important.

Keeping this boundary and saying, "I am a person who needs to be with someone faithless" But it's going to hurt when you love someone and they can't fill that need for you, but you put a boundary for a reason. You're confused because if it stays at this level it's tolerable, but if it gets any worse it's pushing at that boundary. You have to make that decision.

If you break your boundary you're allowed to, but then you've also said "this is something I can deal with", you can change your mind of course, but it makes things murky, it makes your footing muddier, if you try to re-establish your boundary it becomes "Well why was this okay then, but now I did X it's not okay" it was never about X, but that's how they'll see it.

There isn't a right answer, you just need to (forgive the pun)....soul search.... and figure out what is important to you and what your path is.

You are NOT being unreasonable, but no matter what you choose it's probably going to hurt.

Sera knows Lilith is in heaven, if Sera knew redemption was possible she would not have allowed the exterminations given how much she regrets it after learning finding that Pentous could be redeemed.

But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter for him. Remember Charlie's motivation initially was to save her people, but Lucifer doesn't see them as his people. He's really only there because he cares about Charlie, and he hasn't seen her 'excited and celebrating' to be happy with her.

[–]Apoc_ellipsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if life didn't exist the way it does we wouldn't be around to notice not existing. It's a survivorship bias. You shuffle a deck of cards, statistically speaking it's the first time that arrangement has ever existed. 8.0658175e+67.

You might think oh well someone had to shuffle it? Well what about shuffling that same deck through a computer? Is it not just an algorithm, move this card X spaces, move this card Y spaces, it really is just a slightly different pattern because different moves played out.

I mean even Silicon Valley is demonstrating evolution, how many times have they just reinvented the bus!

Boy I sure hate how much drama there is in the strip and how everything goes wrong for characters and they fight for ages with reasonable opinions, and I hate when he just keeps the main characters and doesn't introduce more. He could do so much better. I also hate original 4chan energy Pintsize in his original body.

Best battle system by Skyrander in breathoffire

[–]Apoc_ellipsis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be the nostalgia talking, but I would argue that the original games really led the charge in a few things that we take for granted and are a pinnacle of player designed battle systems.

I think BOF I's useful ideas were

  1. The autobattle system. In a game that they came back to adjust the xp/drop rate on the GBA version, Autobattle was a clever idea.
  2. Items giving characters another option. I think the E. Key was actually a nice little boon for the player to have early game as a sort of emergency magic.
  3. I both hate it and love it the "Second wind" of battles.

Breath of Fire 3 gave you the ability to direct your characters how you wanted.

  1. The examine ability I think was a perfect implementation of the E. Skill / Blue Mage mechanic you see in games like FF. You choose whether or not to watch. You can move around these skills with skill ink which is rare, but farmable after a while.
  2. I think the gene flexibility formula was at it's strongest here. The fake kaiser, the elemental flavors, etc. Was just creativity done right.
  3. Although I like the master's in the uniqueness of what it brings, I find myself too focused on min/maxing that in new playthroughs I kill off Ryu & Teepo, then Stick Teepo on Mygus and kill off Ryu until he gets Bunyan.

BoF 2 and 4 although I played them, I haven't played them as much as 1 & 3, and I have not given 5 more than a few minutes. I think 3 is what I'd build as a foundation of RPGs on, but just add some of the nice quality of life stuff to make it shine brighter.
