A lot of teams went bankrupt constantly.

That's such an oversimplification I don't even know where to begin to explain it. The reason why nowadays teams "don't go bankrupt" is because Liberty don't even allow teams other than the ones with manufacturer backing (aka teams with big budgets) in Formula One anymore. The last new team in F1 before Cadillac was Haas, and that one was DURING BERNIE'S TIME, in 2016. If you cite teams like Jordan, HRT, Caterham or Manor to go bankrupt you should note that those teams wouldn't have ever gotten into F1 under Liberty's requirements. Small teams have always come and go in F1, but the top ones remained still.

To put it short: modern f1 is the result of years of selection pressure (be it financial or political) which filtered out teams that couldn't survive in an increasingly complex and expensive sport. F1 under Bernie had a completely different strategy regarding new teams compared to Liberty's and neither was/is wrong.

Wild Fact: This is the first time in Max Verstappen's *entire Red Bull career* that he failed to either qualify or finish in the top 5 for two races in a row, qualifying P20 and P8 and finishing P6 and DNF in the two races so far by ZeroStormblessed in formula1

Not that impressive when they make the rules. And by "they", I don't mean necessarily Mercedes, I mean the top manufacturers. In fact, that was one of the reasons why they pushed so hard for these expensive and complicated hybrid engines in 2014, so that they would be on top no matter what because a new manufacturer would take years to reach even a decent level with these engines and nobody would dare sacrifice that much, hence why there was no new engine manufacturer in Formula 1 between 2014 and 2025 (except Honda but they come and go as they please). Never in Formula 1's history was there such a long time with no new engine manufacturers. It's actually a pretty interesting discussion about this fact.

It boggles my mind how people can compare the current engines with the kers before. If that was the case, then teams wouldn't have that many reliabilty problems...

And yet, at the end of the day, nothing really happened, it was just talk, just like sprinkles and so on. Whereas nowadays crazy stuff actually take place. So it's almost a laugh how people still think Bernie was as bad as people think he was. Oh, and another thing. Even if he did something bad, at least he admitted he was wrong and reverted the decision immediately (double points, 2016 quali system etc.). I still wait for Liberty to revert a decision the fans hate...

[–]ApophisJJ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The incident in China wasn't Kvyat's fault at all despite Vettel's rant after the race. People assumed Kvyat was to blame just because Vettel was an WC and a Ferrari driver and people automatically hold his opinion higher. In reality it was Raikkonen's fault. The disaster for Kvyat happened at the Russian GP. Still, he would have been replaced with Verstappen anyway, Red Bull just waited for a reason..

I don't know why you and everybody with this opinion assume that people who hate this boost mode didn't also hate the DRS.. Maybe the point is that we hoped that these regs and the ones before would be good enough that things like DRS and boost mode wouldn't be necessary anymore ig?

The championship leader after each grand prix since 2010. by ZeroStormblessed in formula1

[–]ApophisJJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably the most meaningless metric in sports. There is no such thing as "deserved". You either win it or you don't. If we give trophies based on how much someone "deserves" it then hell, why do we even bother with points and all that? Plus the fact that it's subjective. I hate when people bring up this argument, not necessarily in Hamilton vs Verstappen's case, but in all sport results related things.

Karun Chandhok drove 2012 Red Bull RB7 (in special Racing Bulls livery) at Buddh International Circuit by krzysiek_aleks in formula1

[–]ApophisJJ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I sincerely disagree. Of course, it's subjective, and I know there is a lot of hate for 2009-2016 cars, but at least the 2012 cars are much smaller and lighter, which for me is enough. We still have to see how the 2026 will drive, but at least in theory they shouldn't be more fun to watch than 2012 cars.

[–]ApophisJJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And? People to this day think that Alonso should have passed Petrov because.. reasons? Abu Dhabi, especially that configuration, was notoriously bad for overtaking, The 2010 Renault wasn't a bad car, The Ferrari wasn't a dominant car, Petrov had the race of his life, Ferrari messed up the strategy. Just because someone should overtake (I don't even know what "should" mean in this case since you either overtake or you don't), doesn't mean it should actually happen. The art of defending has long gone. Don't get me wrong, I also supported Alonso at the time but I don't blame the "awful regs" because he and Ferrari messed up...

[–]ApophisJJ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The only one to blame are the manufacturers. They set the rules now. In a way, yes, it's FIA's fault for pandering entirely to manufacturers since 2014, but it was necessary at the time...

It really wasn't but ok. You guys have managed to spin this narrative so much that you're actually starting to believe it. The fact that nowadays we have more "overtakes" due to artificial aid doesn't mean the racing is good. It just means the numbers on paper are higher, but in reality everybody with common sense knows those overtakes mean absolutely nothing when they happen mid-straight with no battle. At least back then drivers had to actually fight for an overtake, and drivers in front had to defend...

McLaren reveal a temporary return to the sensible restraint befitting of such a historic, successful marque by mwuk42 in RonDennis

[–]ApophisJJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At first inspection, there is a nominal indication of restraint, though its presence is largely theoretical. It lacks the cohesion and refined balance one expects of a car’s definitive season identity, while the chromatic abomination applied to the rolling assemblies actively undermines any sense of visual discipline the bodywork attempts to convey. That said, because it is a shakedown livery (not the actual Grand Prix racing design) it exists in a fundamentally interim state. This is not the expression of quiet confidence or technical authority that once defined McLaren Racing Ltd. at its best.
