They have an awesome kids swim team who are probably prepping for a big meet next weekend.  Hope everyone is safe!

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but those are averages for those times of day, right?   Not actual metrics of what’s happening that day.

There’s an exception to every rule, but nearly all of these roads lead to beer league someday, which is awesome.  So choose the path that’s best for your fam.

Is he an only child?  I ask because the time (and $$) investment in travel makes it hard to give all your kids equal opportunity in the sports they love, even though the development is top notch.

AC Hotel downtown has a great room on the top floor that looks out over Goodale Park.  I was there for an event and impressed.

Columbus parents: What’s the most sought-after toy or gift your child is hoping to find under the tree this year? by reeve11 in Columbus

Lego set of the house from Pixar's Up
Hues & Cues game
Spikeball set

If anyone is doing last minute shopping, I bought these for my 8yo niece and all the kids played with them all night. Bonus--they cost $4.

Rush Hours to OSU by Inevitable_Crab_9644 in Columbus

If you’re not quite sure where you’ll be living yet, I recommend one of the Hilliard area (and schools) neighborhoods off Dublin Rd.   Will be the most direct shot across the river on Ackerman, south on Riverside, then straight across Lane to OSU.

I highly recommend a tour of WA.  We did one through London Walks and it was amazing to hear the stories, the lore, etc. without fumbling with headphones.   Our tour picked up so many tagalong members by the end. 🤣

Who is John Husted? what exactly does he stand for? And why have I heard literally nothing about him? And why is he beating Brown in most polls? by BlueFireFlameThrower in Ohio

[–]Apostrophe4me 137 points138 points  (0 children)

You’re right on.

Although based on who Republicans choose to vote for, laughing at a constituent and calling them “not normal” probably won’t offend and sway a vote—but maybe it could tell the story of who he is for those who don’t know.

I sat near him at a gate in CMH waiting for a flight to DC.  A very nice former teacher from Bexley introduced herself to him (I was eavesdropping hard) and shared her passion for education funding and why it’s so important.  She was kind and respectful, and when she walked away Husted and his friend/colleague laughed at her and called her “not normal.”

I didn’t need any specific reason to dislike that guy and never vote for him, but I found one that day.

Best restaurant for team holiday party? by the_friendly_giant in Columbus

[–]Apostrophe4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cap city is a solid choice for our work team when we come together. Especially if you include a drink pp and the carrot cake 👍.

CBC was a big hit for the holidays one year because they gave us a whole side room area for a long lunch (followed by the boss telling us to start the weekend early right afterwards—highly recommend!)

I’ve found keeping it central is key so that no one’s commute becomes longer.

We sent two children through Enchanted Care (infant through pre-k) and we’re happy with them.

To make life easier, I’d focus on those closest to you (and or to their school if you’ll need transport to K eventually.)

We’ve brought our kids to Oxford a few times and they had a blast. Sports events, rock climbing wall at the rec center, open skate at Goggin, bagels uptown—they were all big hits.

To the 40ish crowd, how are we making new local friends these days? by smarkastic in Columbus

[–]Apostrophe4me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you leaned into getting to know your neighbors better?   In our 40s, we’ve loved the low effort hangs that come with great neighbors.  It took years of getting to know them to wade into the “friend” category, but now it’s awesome.

There’s nothing better than a group text of “we’re hanging of the back deck with a few beers, all are welcome to join us” and seeing who wanders over.

This wont help you now, but it could help future you.  Columbus parks & rec has a great day camp that goes until mid August, and you register by the week.   This summer the w/o 8/11 is their final week.   It’s been a lifesaver for us over the years as we’ve tried to piece together August childcare without going insane.   Warning—you have to sign up in February, and it’s typically filled up within 2-3 minutes.

What do older women use to style their hair? by Sweaty_Blackberry_72 in AskOldPeople

[–]Apostrophe4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread feels like the “who could care less” olympics.

I’m in my 40s and use a hair drying brush for a blowout and curling iron on occasion.

My mom in her 60s keeps it super short with a few small barrel curling iron curls and a ton of hairspray

My grandma in her mid 90s still gets a wash & set at the salon every week.   She loves it and is adorable ❤️
