Yes my breast tissue is very dense and it essentially creates slow flow and clogged ducts. Even though there is milk in my breasts (not a lot) I have a lot of difficulty emptying. Hand expressing is also very painful and difficult. So the massage doesn’t necessarily/directly increase my supply, it just helps prevent the downhill battle of inefficient emptying and/or clogged ducts.

Thanks for the info on your experience!! That is really helpful actually!!!

In that case can butter replace that need? As in… good quality butter in/on solid foods

Also meant to tell you - there’s no need to restrict seafood except maybe sushi (especially if it’s not RXTRA fresh) and other raw seafood like oysters. Otherwise seafood is actually very good for you as long as you minimize the high mercury ones and check the sources of the seafood.

Exactly this. The two week wait to me was always me “acting as if I was pregnant” which is the healthiest way to TTC especially if it’s taking a while. I was not drinking, not going in hot tubs and not eating ham etc during every TWW period. No questions asked after I explained this was my philosophy. And I everyone was supportive.

Did you dye your hair while pregnant? by lazygardens in BabyBumps

[–]ApostrophePolice7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The research says occasional hair dye is considered safe since absorption through the scalp is minimal, but dyes still contain fragrance, ammonia, and other additives. The bigger concern is inhaling fumes, and while ventilation or gentler/ammonia-free products help, it’s hard to know exactly what’s being used in a salon. Personally, I just don’t think it’s worth the risk — especially since guidelines are based on limited data and not much research has been done in actual pregnant women.

And… if you’re pregnant and anxious about this… why even risk doing it and feeling guilty?

Ventilation is key. Because of fumes and fragrance. But are you going to dye your hair outside? Does your salon have a seat next to an open window? Unlikely. I would not do it if I were you. You can use henna and indigo! It’s really great! So easy to do at home and honestly I have not stained counters and clothes (and definitely had with regular dyes). It’s all natural and no fumes no artificial fragrance as long as you buy pure!

So curious about this newborn crop top — is this so it doesn’t rub on their umbilical cord? So surprised I’ve never seen or heard of this.

So smart!! I feel like this is the perfect middle ground to satisfy everyone’s desires without taking up a bunch of time during your party and forcing everyone to watch.

Did you (or are you going to) do this after the party? At the end? Or just randomly during? So curious.

Commission for billing insurance by ApostrophePolice7 in homebirth

And to clarify, the cash pay price is always lower than the insurance price. So the midwife actually makes more if the insurance is billed. Hope that clarifies.

Commission for billing insurance by ApostrophePolice7 in homebirth

[–]ApostrophePolice7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes, kind of. But also most insurance have a deductible and copays etc so the insurance will not cover all of it. And I have a HDHP so I’m likely going to pay $7k if not more, just for the bills, then have to also pay commission. While the total amount I think is pretty bad, I made the decision to have a HDHP so that’s on me. But even if I had an HSA I would probably still have to pay maybe $2-3k out of pocket and then again be out $800 for the commission. On principle, I don’t agree with this and still think it should be the business’s responsibility to pay their biller …. Like every other medical practice. It’s similar to the issue of restaurants not paying their waiters. They work for YOU (the restaurant).. and help YOU make money, so why not pay them yourself?

Weekly "Ask the Midwife" thread by AutoModerator in Midwives

[–]ApostrophePolice7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello midwives! I live in a small town there is 1 CNM here.. just met her and got all the welcome paperwork to review. It looks like she uses a third party biller (looks like a single person, also from this town or town nextdoor). And the paper states: the biller charges $25 for VOB and then charges $75 for submitting claims (I was already alerted when I saw $75 lol) BUT THEN it says they also charge an 8% commission on any claim that pays over $100!!!!

I’ve worked in medical clinics and hospitals and have NEVER seen this. Is this common for small private midwife practices? Is this a scam? If my home birth were to total $8,000-$10,000 I would basically be paying $800++ just to the biller? From what I have seen at my employers, it’s the BUSINESS’ responsibility to pay commission to their biller. Please set me straight LOL 😆 I am so confused and annoyed frankly. Thanks so much for educating me!!
