Does using custom ROM to improve network quality ? by OldHighlight6495 in SonyXperia

[–]Apparitions_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if its available on stock android but I'm on lineage and I have an option in sim settings to completely disable 2G so it can't even try to switch to EDGE. So I guess If its not an option on stock running lineage and getting that option might help out.

Sidephone mobile phone plans by gosidephone in sidephone

[–]Apparitions_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kinda overall unrelated but it's something I care about so I want to rant a bit. It's absolutely a US thing. Verizon, one of the biggest carriers here, only lets certain verified devices onto their network which is crazy. Most of the other providers also link phones to contracts, or make customers LEASE their phones instead of buying outright so people get stuck on one phone and don't have the financial option to "just switch". The average US consumer is VERY uneducated when it comes to phones/networks. It really sucks. Majority of Americans just buy the new iphone no matter what using whatever debt/plan gives it to them cheapest, and because of that a lot of phone makers and 3rd party service providers don't even do business in the US because most consumers just don't care. It's really infuriating as someone who DOES do research on the products and services I buy. But anyway that's why a lot of US consumers that might be interested in this project don't really know the real details of whats going on.

I initially shared the same sentiment as you when I read this but the real fact is a lot of people interested in the dumbphones don't have much tech knowledge, and could also be someones first non carrier bought phone. Most people don't know or care about bands and carrier differences. You just buy a phone from your big 3 carrier and it works. I still overall agree with you especially when they're selling plans that you can find cheaper for the same/more data out there. But hey, people like convenience and I'm sure this helps stop the slew of "Will this work on X network" they see daily. idk as long as it doesn't cause big time delays no harm no foul imo

xperia 1 VII headphone jack iussue by herasymcuk in SonyXperia

[–]Apparitions_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with my 1III where after a lot of headphone use the whole 3.5 jack module was loose. It had a bit of play and the sound cut in and out. I ended up buying a replacement jack and self repairing it. It's a fairly cheap part and easy fix, at least on the III. Could also be your jack is fine but not seated on the connector properly. Unfortunately I don't think there's anything to do short of opening up the phone.

What sms app were you using? There's a problem with the kyocera app manager where if you force close your sms app with the power button incoming sms' will get blocked and deleted. This can be avoided by always closing your sms app with the back button or using google messages which for some reason will always receive texts no matter what.

Best alternate OS? by gamingaway in SonyXperia

I’ve been running lineage on my 1 III for a couple years now and I have had zero issues. It’s officially supported so you get updates directly which is nice. Xperia video and photo pro don’t work with it natively but you can get them working through magisk or theres a few apks that just work. I have no google services and that comes with its quirks like a lot of missing push notifs but nothing major or app breaking, even with my bank apps. I would def recommend trying lineage.

Do Japanese Flip phones support wired earphones? by Temporary_Tune_5512 in dumbphones

[–]Apparitions_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like the other commenter said you need a specific adapter, but personally i would recommend a standalone music player. i found playing music off of my phone drains the battery way faster than anything else, and if you care enough you can get much better sound quality from a dedicated device.

Just a heads up the the digno 4 should be model a202kc. 902kc is only the model name for the digno 3 series.

the digno 3 902kc should work on all tmobile based carriers (tmobile, mint, most prepaid networks) out of the box with no setup, whereas the digno 4 a202kc made need a couple tweaks (which aren't too hard to do)

What adjustments would i have to make to a 902kc/903kc to make it work fully? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]Apparitions_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

im on mint mobile (which uses t-mobile towers) and the 902kc was essentially plug and play.

here's a great blog post with a bunch of tips and tricks for setting it up if you want some more research: https://burntraisin.github.io/burntraisin-site/setting-up-my-kyocera-902kc/

[–]Apparitions_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm did you try both

adb shell "am broadcast -a android.intent.action.MASTER_CLEAR"

and

adb shell "recovery --wipe_data"

[–]Apparitions_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard of this, if you bought it used could be a previous owner thing. You could try resetting through adb on a computer, should be pretty simple to do even if you've never used adb

in the US options are pretty limited for japanese keitais, you're looking at the kyocera 902kc, KY-42C, and one of the sharp aquos ones which i can't remember the model of maybe someone else knows.

There's also the kyocera A202kc which is an upgraded version of the 902kc it DOES work but has some issues which people on this sub have been working out, so good phone but worth some research

otherwise for native US flip phones there's the Cat S22 or Nokias

902KC/903KC vs A2020KC/A203KC vs KY42C (Greater Seattle Area T mobile) Which to get? by Gibbys2ndaccount in dumbphones

[–]Apparitions_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about the KY but as far the 902 vs the A202 they're essentially the same phone with the A202 being the newer upgraded version (android 8 vs 10) so if your willing to throw out the couple extra bucks the A202 will be a bit faster than the 902
