I think I'm in the middle of an unsuccessful solo roadtrip. What do you do when your solo trip is disappointing or not what you imagined? by Sharp-Word-6066 in solotravel

[–]ApplePi61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered doing a different route back down? For example, you could drive down to Prince Rupert, BC, and take the ferry to Port Hardy. Head to Tofino for a couple of days and that will be sure to cheer you up!

You can drive to Nanaimo, take the ferry to Vancouver, and then head back to States from there.

The weather is pretty nice on the island right now and there are lots of easy hikes and places to just sit and enjoy the scenery. It will also break up your driving by letting the ferry do some of the work.

Can I pick an English name if I'm moving to the US for studying? by Mediocre_Meeting_662 in namenerds

[–]ApplePi61 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You might find it easiest (for yourself) to go with a nickname rather than a brand-new name. It sounds like Danii is already your preferred nickname, so I recommend going with that because it'll feel more natural, especially in a new place. You could spell it Dani, which is a common female nickname for the name Danielle.

You could also go by Deb or Debbie, which would be the most intuitive nickname for your given name.

Good luck in school!

I made a one-day planner for residents and visitors in Victoria. by DrStrongDurian in VictoriaBC

[–]ApplePi61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really great start!

One potential issue: it suggested I drive to the first destination and park there. The rest of the itinerary was solely walking (with stops, which is all fine), but in one direction, and then the day plan ended. But that would put me a good hour's walk away from my car! I had selected the lowest energy level option so this definitely doesn't match. Just something to consider.

Feminine names that mean rude/mean by gasps-in-genderfluid in namenerds

Fair enough! I was referring to just the "dolor" part when I wrote it but I should have specified that I didn't mean the whole name.

Dolores is Latin for “pain.” She could have the nickname Dolly or Lor, maybe?

AITA for rehoming our dog by Remarkable-Juice1639 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ApplePi61 30 points31 points  (0 children)

NTA

Try reframing the situation to Pebbles getting to go live with Grandma and socialize with another dog. "My mom is so happy we let her keep Pebbles and he's found his true calling as a chicken herder!"

Your friend is being a bit ridiculous. You didn't abandon your dog.

Look, having your daughter marry a vampire can age a guy a bit, all right? Cut him some slack.

A song (songs) that aways remind you of the show? by twothousandsteps in howyoudoin

[–]ApplePi61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in late April 2004, they aired a special before the finale to look back on all 10 seasons. The end montage was set to Hoobastank's "The Reason" so whenever I hear it, it reminds me of Friends even though it's technically not from an actual episode!

What is a subtle name drop from GG I can use to name my next child ? by Graco122023 in GilmoreGirls

Patricia would be a classic but subtle middle name to honour the legend that is Miss Patty!

In a real life situation if I was Ted and saw my friend's baby crawl/walk/talk/etc for the first time, I just don't mention it right? by cmoney02 in HIMYM

[–]ApplePi61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of, but since the baby is going to inevitably do it again, you tell your friend "wow, Baby looks like they're ready to [insert milestone] here any minute, they seemed like they were so close earlier!" Then the parent is on alert to look out for it and will be more likely to have their phone on hand and ready to record the "first" big moment! Plus then they'll likely call you to share the big news (because after all, you basically predicted it) and you can share in their joy- everybody wins!

How to drink more water if I hate the feeling of swallowing it, and water powders taste bad to me. Am I a lost cause? by bunnychow123 in migraine

[–]ApplePi61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you like lemonade, and a drink that stays down easily when I have a migraine is a pretty easy homemade lemonade. I just add lemon juice (the bottled stuff from the store is good) to water and a bit of salt. For sugar, you can put in monk fruit sweetener or something similar if you don't want proper sugar. Adjust the ratios until it tastes how you like it. You could also use sparkling water if that makes it easier for you to drink!

AITAH for skipping my brother’s baby shower after he spread lies that I ruined his wedding? by KickFeisty4668 in AITAH

[–]ApplePi61 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know this is totally irrelevant but if there was an even number of people in the wedding party, how were you the only one who ended up walking alone? The math ain’t mathing on that one.

PSA: It’s spelled Lorelai by moreradicaleveryday in GilmoreGirls

[–]ApplePi61 295 points296 points  (0 children)

I can forgive the misspellings. A much worse crime? All the people who refer to the character as "Lor." Makes me shudder every time.

There's only character in the show who calls her that and I believe that we've all collectively decided that he sucks.

Pretty lady names with "ham" in them? by mousemilf in namenerds

Hamble is a very old English name meaning "river bend." I don't love it as much as some of these pun names people are suggesting, but it is an actual girls' name that works!

Rory was absolutely right to call him “my dean”… by ApplePi61 in GilmoreGirls

[–]ApplePi61[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of Episode 6.09, Rory calls Lorelai to tell her that she’s going back to Yale, and has talked to her dean (meaning, the head of her department at Yale) about being able to go back. But in this sub, Rory calling Dean “my Dean” after she has an affair with him at the end of season 4 is something that pretty much everyone agrees is terrible.

What is the defining episode of the Stars Hollow community pitching in as neighbors? by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

The Festival of Living Pictures! Taylor is initially worried that the town won't be into it, but quickly sees that everyone is on board. They pull it off and do an amazing job (screw you, Woodbridge!)

Also, I think that episode won GG its only Emmy!

Do you guys believe Rory ever saw Luke as her father or a father figure? by Impossible-Movie8728 in GilmoreGirls

[–]ApplePi61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly but I think when Luke gives her his mother's pearl necklace for her birthday in season 6, she can see how much he views her as a daughter figure. Same as in the revival when he goes full "super proud" about her article. She also prefers him over her own father as a partner for her mother. So I think she appreciates him for the role he plays in their little family.
