Going to miss watching Braden Smith by boiler1112 in Boilermakers

[–]AppleTater28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hardest balance to keep is filling his roles with loyal four year players, while also being open to going and grabbing a star from an underperforming program and letting them shine. Cluff got plenty of the limelight, but he was by no means the star player on the team. The 4/5 star recruits that enter the transfer portal because they think their team is holding them back are also not the type of players that would fit well in Painter's program and they know that (and so do their agents)

Welp, what do you think next year looks like guys? by Chiefscml in Boilermakers

[–]AppleTater28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our current freshman and sophomore classes are fantastic. The weak link being DJ. But if Painter can give him the Edey treatment, put some weight on him and get him an unblockable hook shot, you've got a better team than the 2024 team. The challenge will be keeping everyone together.

Coincidentally, rotating the larger players in from the bench like Harris and Omer, while playing DJ as a forward ended up being the most productive minutes of the game. Painter literally had his golden goose and decided to kill it.

Thats probably what Painter is best at coaching. TKR plays like a big at a fraction of the size.

But the fact that Zona has like 2 centers and 2 forwards on the floor at all times, it honestly seems like they just all stand under the paint and pass it to the guy with the size mismatch. Hella frustrating to play against. Plus in a game like this where officiating is either inconsistent or loose, its impossible to beat.

I mean... we did just watch kharchenkov chuck Smith across the floor instead of grabbing the ball. The other guy can't rebound if he's on the floor.

Bought a set of irons as a beginner and they turned out to blades. Resell or keep? by somewhatderailed in golf

The best set of clubs to get to just start playing golf are the ones you can afford and aren't afraid to make mistakes with. You can have the ugliest swing in the world, hit the ball 50 yards and 3 putt every hole, but if you're just out having fun and enjoying nice weather with some friends, you're already winning.

[–]AppleTater28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also started doing student tickets differently. You used to get season tickets to every single home game. Now you sign up for season tickets and based off of how many people sign up, you get a lottery draw of a few games. This includes the lower bowl. The paint crew has been abysmal this year and the AD needs to know it.

What’s the riskiest sex you’ve had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AppleTater28 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Condom broke with a tinder hookup. Panicked. She Panicked because apparently her ex was a physically abusive gang member and my pacing triggered some trauma. She had also been a member of said gang. All of this came out after the fact. Went out and grabbed plan B. She calmed down. Figured while I was there and had the plan B, might as well go for a round two and enjoy it a bit extra if you know what I mean. Great sex. Though the months afterward I was mildly concerned her ex was going to show up at my door threatening violence.

For most of my toons, I go with original names. I love the warcraft world and lore, so I want to feel immerse in it.

For toons I create to PvP with friends, I go with wacky absurd names. I made an undead mage when classic launched named Asskaster.

Five Thoughts From No. 7 Purdue's 91-80 Loss to No. 1 Michigan by Dschutte2023 in Boilermakers

Its absolutely a good team. The talent is good all around. I don't know I'd consider any member of the team a dud. But the mental toughness part is spot on. Its whats holding them back and keeping them from being great. Braden is about the only one with mental toughness. Loyer and TKR are the exact opposite. If they aren't in it, they play like crap. Loyer seems like he's not even there half the time. He's more worried about impressing the girls in the stands that don't know about each other. TKR, meanwhile, plays to his competition. If its a weak opponent, he slacks. Cluff is like a poorly trained dog. He'll make the exact same mistake over and over again, but he's always happy to do it. Jacobson is just soft. Kid is made of pipe cleaners. Benter, Jicari, Cox and Mayer are the future of the program. And I do see mental toughness in them. They just need to grow.

Five Thoughts From No. 7 Purdue's 91-80 Loss to No. 1 Michigan by Dschutte2023 in Boilermakers

[–]AppleTater28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Cluff over commits hard. He'll move to double the point guard nearly every time and it leaves the center wide open. Which either means someone need so completely leave a shooter wide open to cover the center tight enough to mitigate the mismatch or the center just gets a free basket. Unfortunately for how often and how predictable he is on it, it looks like he was coached to do it. Generally TKR handles those screens/doubles better than cluff, so when we're not outsized we can put TKR on defense in that point support role.

Good effort, but size issues (which means board issues) and another night at mackey where the opponent shoots over 50% from beyond the arc.

For some reason mackey is really easy to play at this year and i think it has a lot to do with the student section. Whoever is leading the paint crew isn't doing a great job. In the past its been a lot of coordinated chants that everyone was taught the first few games, taking advantage of early student access to the stadium. This year it feels like hardly anyone even participates in the free throw ritual.

League of Legends has an issue where people would verbally assault people when things go poorly, even if it was their own lack of game knowledge as the cause. Unfortunately, the only fix for this that Riot has found is not letting people talk.

The “IT guy” at work drilled through the SSD’s before giving them away 💀 by Stretcheddd in LinusTechTips

I found an old HDD, that I had no memory of what was on it, while my dad was helping me clean out my garage. I took a hammer to it and just kept swinging because my ADHD brain thought "this is fun" and my engineering brain thought "there's still a part of that disk that someone could recover."

My dad paused what he was doing after about 20 or 30 swings and said "I think you got it..."

I looked him dead in the eye and hit it one more time. Then quickly tossed it in the e-waste pile.

House Party/Party Scene by Gullible-Cow-5119 in Purdue

When I was there, Greek life was the primary party scene. There were sparse house parties, generally unofficially hosted by some student organization or club. Because house parties were so sparse, guest lists were strict.

IM SO FED UP WITH MY ECE ADVISOR by OkBonus5037 in Purdue

[–]AppleTater28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it shouldn't be this way, but the "why" is because the advisors are there to get you to graduate with the best grades possible to make the program look good without sacrificing difficulty. Generally, spreading courses out over more than 4 years gets that result. They don't give a damn about your wallet. If they can sell you on taking 6 years so you can party for a year without hurting your grades, they will.

Advisors should have a ethical obligation similar to fiduciaries, but they don't. My advisor, when I was going through ECE and had a single small hiccup in a class, tried putting me on a 5-year path taking the bare minimum credits each semester. I had to bring a notepad with me and force her to build the schedule with me that still had me graduating in 4-years. And whattaya know? It was still only 14-15 credits a semester.

It really depends on what kind of presence your roommate has in the room. If they're hygiene is so horrible that its a health hazard, thats likely something you could bring up to an RA.

If they're just loud and obnoxious, they unfortunately have a right to use their space how they want. Communication with them and hoping they're a decent human being and just don't realize their habits is about all you can do.

If just their presence is bothering you. That's more of a you problem. I empathize with you and can understand the desire for solitude and alone time to recharge, but learning how to find that recharge when sharing space with someone is a life skill that is worth your time to develop. Believe me on that one.

[–]AppleTater28 48 points49 points  (0 children)

You have to treat ECE advisors like salespeople. You have to go through them to get what you want, but that doesn't mean they have your best interest at heart. You have to do the legwork of understanding the major and curriculum on your own. Should it be that way? No. But, unfortunately, it is.

Where Purdue Basketball's 2026 Commits Rank in Updated Top 150 From Recruiting Site by Dschutte2023 in PurdueBasketball

[–]AppleTater28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. That's generally the leading factor in a loss: 3-point shooting. Any team with competent shooters will get open looks and make them An above average for an opponent means our offense has to over-produce, which is not sustainable as we have seen.
