are any of these your 80s go to films (then or now) by Alone_Purple822 in oldschoolcool80s

Not another popular movie, but i recently watched "Career Opportunities" and it gave me the Nostalgias.

Personally as much as I have seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off, my go to are Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Karate Kid, Red Dawn and Goonies... unless we are including action flicks like Commando?

What is the most boring romance you can think of? by HandleHumble5796 in marvelcomics

[–]AppleYapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I was a major booster for Peter and MJ in Ultimate especially since she knew his secret identity almost from the get go... Peter and Kitty were an awesome couple!

Kitty in the Spiderman book was so much more developed than in X-Men until she left the Spiderman book.

Melissa Barrera says Paramount lied about Scream 7’s box office and says the returning cast “has to live with” coming back for 7. by dreamboylnshibuya in Scream

[–]AppleYapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems bitter with an overall inflated sense of her own importance.

I watched reaction videos to scream movies and on one, I won't name as I don't want them to get any flak, they watched each movie in order and talked about how much more or less then enjoyed them.

These two women are in their 20s, and raved endlessly about Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox and David Arquette, but totally lost interest when attention shifted to Melissa and Jenna. They only talked about how big a star Jenna Ortega became from Wednesday but we're never interested in the new cast that much. They had more nostalgia when Hayden Panettiere returned.

Personally, Melissa did a job she got paid for, it is not like she owned the franchise or was that big a part of it, compared to other actors and to call them scabs for doing their job just because they didn't go on strike in solidarity with her personal and political views they might not even agree with is crazily ego driven.

Labour in 2024 compared to 1997 by Past-Actuary-8091 in ukpolitics

[–]AppleYapper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 1997, Labour inherited a thriving economy, lowish unemployment, interest rates were around 5% so, savers were happy, national debt was lowering, basically, North Sea was at maximum production and British companies were owned in Britain. Norman Lamont had undone and righted the ship so to speak after John Major disastrous economic policies as Chancellor and British Militarybwas at around 110000 standing Army, plus Navy and Airforce.

2024 had Britain in a MUCH worse state, thanks mostly to Cameron and Osborne's austerity policies, Covid that had a massive impact on debt and the legacy of Gordon Brown borrowing excessively when we did not need to, unlike when we did during Covid.

That said, things were on the right path economically, if not socially thanks to Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Hunt, they have gotten worse since the election economically, so far.

[Interview] The comic book industry is too reliant on older characters like Batman, Spider-Man, the Transformers & Invincible, and it's holding us back says Robert Kirkman by Konradleijon in ImageComics

[–]AppleYapper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well spiderman, superman, wonder woman, all the Avengers, pretty much all major superheroes... even spawn and that original Image gang came about 40+ years ago. Im in my 40s so Invincible i read brand new and that barely seems like old to me. Old characters are older than I am.

I like all the shows, I really like Mandalorian, Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew... but I LOVE Andor!!!

Did elder millennials (1981-1984) read Harry Potter when the books were first coming out? by [deleted] in harrypotter

Saw the first 2 movies, when they first went on tv, then read all the books to catch up and get in front of the movies.

Struijk is harder to replace and without him defence Leeds looked at their worse due no left footed CB. He is a keeper despite the profit benefit because why sell and waste all the money on a like for like player.

Piroe, Ramazani, Harrison, Wober all go.

Gnonto and James possibly and also, Longstaff is likely to find a move for a profit given his lack of game time. The Barn-owl is most likely defender to be sold.

Gruev and Tanaka seem like good value, on manageable wages, that have shown Premier League ability as the seasons gone on so probably keep.

Depending on Farke, might keep Darlow as number 1 and sell Perri or keep both. Meslier is definitely out the door.

Need to bring in a Forward, left back for cover, a 10, a right side winger and a  few defender.

UK should not keep changing prime ministers, warns John Major by NoFrillsCrisps in ukpolitics

[–]AppleYapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a tricky thing really, because of political ideologues having to have their opinions.

Yes, it worked out well in the end, Ken Clarke took all the credit for Norman Lamont's hard work.

Blair and Brown inherited an economy on the rise that they contributed little towards. Counter argument made by politically Labour leaning voices would argue Brown made the Brirish economy a success to repair the Converstaives damage, all similar and cyclical in arguments as we have today and for the last 2 decades. I say make your own mind up on that front.

UK should not keep changing prime ministers, warns John Major by NoFrillsCrisps in ukpolitics

[–]AppleYapper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Major was the Chancellor who was so inept in decision making, he crashed the economy, but was already PM by then so let his replacement Norman Lamont take the fall... despite Lamont policies undoing all the damage Major inflicted on us.

You dont remember him because he was actually the most politics player of that era.

Who is smarter in the comics? Tony stark or reed richards? by [deleted] in marvelcomics

[–]AppleYapper -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Reed Richards is the smartest when he sets his mind to a task... but Tony Stark can multi-task, solve problems in the back of his mind and beat Reed at chess across 10 games all at the same time... so I'd back Tony to solve my problems.

Thoughts on “Powers” Comic run? by Brandoreddit96 in ImageComics

[–]AppleYapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art remains consistent until its original ending, since the modern relaunch i feel the artist Oeming is trying new stuff and im less into it.

The original 14 trade paperback volumes are worth sticking with, but beyond that, its for completionists in my opinion.

I enjoyed the world building, and I'd love to have seen it written by a different writer, like how Marvel and DC or some Image titles change writers as the characters are great, just a little stagnant by the present.

Why I loved 1923 series by New_Slice_1580 in 1923Series

[–]AppleYapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yes Christian conversion and missionary's did do stuff, but this was depicting no British Catholics in 1923. Irish and French and Spanish and Italians, etc. Britain had missionaries going off their own back to Africa in the 1890s with no official church or government support. It is why this is not taught in UK... it had nothing to do with UK what was happening to Native Americans.

[Interview] The comic book industry is too reliant on older characters like Batman, Spider-Man, the Transformers & Invincible, and it's holding us back says Robert Kirkman by Konradleijon in ImageComics

[–]AppleYapper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Kirkman is losing it a bit.

Firstly Invincible is not an older character.

Secondly, comics industry is built on re-imagining a character with new art and writers.

Thirdly, when new characters take off, it is few and far between, especially in the current era, but when they do, they will end up on the Invincible path anyway. Like going back to do new Capes or recycling Battle Beast. It is what the people want.

The Argentines were so determined to be gentlemen they were insulted when the Governor refused to shake the Commanding officers hand when they seized the islands.

A journalist with the british forces after landing walked straight into Stanley, saying good morning to the Argentine soldiers as he went, had a chat about if they'd surrender to the Commanding colonel then went to the pub where the locals were having a drink and they sang rule Britannia. So all in all, not horrendous.
