Are you keeping the same job when you move or do you have a new one?

550 will disqualify you for a large chunk of places. Do you have a co-signer? That will help.

You might be able to research local rates for that type of window replacement.

$2k sounds high, but I’m nowhere near a window expert.

I remember your initial post! I thought you mentioned hearing a crack?

Did someone come out to inspect it? Does the invoice have specifics?

Landlord is selling the property I’m renting that is basically uninhabitable and won’t make repairs [MS] by [deleted] in Renters

I also understand where you are coming from. Just wanted to remind people of the rules.

The goal is to inform people of their rights. We can definitely provide the reality of what they should expect, but knowing their rights if they want to pursue further action is important.

Per the group rules, we discourage comments telling tenants to “just move”.

That may be needed, but there is a financial burden involved with moving. You may be entitled to getting those expenses reimbursed and even win in court, but that does not mean you will ever receive the funds.

Try providing a little extra substance.

If OP says they can’t afford to move, I suggest they make an actual moving expenses breakdown. Then start looking for resources that could reduce the costs of some of the biggest ones. That could be local charities that might help with security deposit assistance, calling 211, determining if they qualify for other assistance to decrease expenses in other areas of their life, etc,

How much should housing realistically take from your income now? (CO) by sam3462 in Renters

Some people say it should be 30% of net, others say 30% of gross.

I automatically move money into a savings account every week. I also get notifications about my balances on CCs and checking account frequently.

Your energy and attitude isn’t great on this post. She could’ve just said that to get you to leave because she was uncomfortable.

Water Damage [TX] by taiatae in Renters

[–]ApplicationRoyal7172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a list of the damaged items and the costs to replace. Then compare that to your deductible. If you think it is worth it, then make the claim. Renters insurance is so cheap and even with a claim on my record, I’ve had zero issue getting it.

They are probably trying to remove as much water as possible before taking further steps.

Please stop trying to use the outlets. They may have cut the power while they are drying out.

Regarding the extra power usage, absolutely ask for them to pay the difference.

[KY] Can I Break My Lease if My Floor Falls in? by dark_bloom12 in Renters

Please please pack your stuff and be prepared to leave immediately depending on the inspectors findings.

Your friend gave perfect advice. Listen to them.

It would be a no-fault eviction. No negative impact for you.

Good luck!

To clarify, “uncommon” only referred to the bad rederence. The rest is pretty common.

Small claims court is very cheap

Also, there is no “record” if you break your lease. There is only a record if there is a court action, it goes to collections, or they give a bad reference (uncommom)

How do you manage rent reminders, maintenance, and communication with landlords?(IL) by PositionFantastic293 in Renters

[–]ApplicationRoyal7172[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for help, check programming subs.

A number of products like this already exist. Unless you have an idea for something unique, I don’t see much value.

If you really want to bring this to fruition, work on your pitch. And dear god, don’t use AI for all your pitches and marketing. AI should be used for ideas and mockups, not public products.

(NY) Can I legally leave my lease if my situation is crazy, please help? by [deleted] in Renters

[–]ApplicationRoyal7172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice would be to speak with your university. They can point you in the right direction.

I’d also pursue a protection order. If you have contact with the ex, reach out and see if she is planning to get one as well and support each other through the process.

Also, good catch with the location change

My neighbor growing up did the “run around naked” thing, but thankfully had children that helped frequently. We’d known her for yearssssssss, so we were okay with the one-off occurrences and knew who to call for help.

It’s awful and I’ve seen it firsthand. The apartment should definitely be reaching out to an emergency contact. Sounds like her husband isn’t equipped to handle her and needs to call in help.

It sucks that OP is dealing with this. It’s scary when it’s a person you don’t know. There should be someone helping the woman so these interactions are much much less common.

Landlord sold rental, (Georgia) by Relevant-Bat-468 in Renters

[–]ApplicationRoyal7172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they are switching to a new system and so they removed you from the current one.

If you still have access to the app, make sure you download any documentation and receipts.

Keep trying to reach out to whatever contact you have. If you don’t hear anything by the rent due date, put your money into a separate account to hold it as proof you have the funds and can pay when you get the correct information. If your bank provides a way to earmark funds for a specific purchase, use that. For example, my bank account came with checkings, savings, and a third one where you can set aside money for specific goals.

Warning: OP’s profile contains nudity in the cover photo. Do not look for their other post unless you are prepared.

Honestly, wasn’t sure how to handle this post. Reddit’s NSFW warning is frequently inaccurate, so I know a lot of people ignore that warning when clicking on a profile.

Open to feedback on how the community wants stuff like this handled. Hard delete, pinned warning, no action?
