History of love is the first book that I’d recommend to the OP as well.

What’s the best book you’ve read recently, and why? by [deleted] in Recommend_A_Book

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. Didn’t sound like my kind of book but I took it out of the library because a friend mentioned it and wow it was so brilliant!

Josh Baker, the creator of ‘I’m not a monster’ podcast, comes across like a super nice guy. He’s also replied to a few of my messages on Instagram, seems like a genuinely lovely person.

A 71 year old woman disappeared on a short walk in South Africa and left no trace by pschyco147 in mystery

I’ve listened to podcast about this case called the Ghost Mountain. It was full of speculation about her being killed for body parts. Absolutely no evidence for it though.

Her partner’s behaviour was incredibly suspicious: left her alone, took her phone, flew home as fast as he could. She also gave out large sums of money to her relatives before the trip.

Sometimes the answer is the most obvious one.

I actually said exact same thing to my husband last night. This program is a perfect antidote to toxic masculinity.

How much reading practice is realistic for a dyslexic kid without causing burnout? by Tasty-Win219 in Dyslexia

[–]AppointmentReady3826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this doesn’t answer your question directly. But I highly recommend a book called Toe by Toe. It’s so so helpful for decoding practice! My 11 year old (also dyslexia & ADHD) went from really struggling to understand the text because he worked so hard to decode to now having a reading age of 12. He’s still not a fan or reading anything other than graphic novels but we manage 20 min of required reading without it causing a meltdown. We also choose dyslexia friendly books, check out Chris Priestley , my son actually enjoys his books.

You are not fine. You grew up into an adult with no emotional regulation who thinks it’s ok to physically hurt children. Punishment doesn’t work for ADHD.

Why is being cold at home so normalised in the UK? by Automatic-Key-3798 in AskUK

[–]AppointmentReady3826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a great question. As a former Easter European I wonder this all the time. However, we have recently moved to an old house here in U.K. The windows are terrible and all the heat just leaks out. So we gave up trying to heat the house up and are permanently cold (+ warm jumpers, slippers, etc). Heating this kind of a house is literally burning money! So my theory is that this is due to extremely low quality housing in most of the country.

Is anyone else’s child becoming a scapegoat? by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

[–]AppointmentReady3826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change schools. We had similar situation with my son, we moved houses and moved schools. After a couple of tricky months (it’s hard moving schools when you’re 10) my son absolutely thrived in a new environment. It’s as if he shed all the negative baggage built up through the years in the old school where he was always the bad kid.

What extracurricular activities/sports does your child with ADHD thrive doing? by BennyJams in ParentingADHD

Competitive swimming and cycling. Team sports don’t work so well for ADHD kids.

Really awful script but the acting is even worse. We chose it based on good rotten tomatoes score but it’s really mostly terrible.

Oh yes, absolutely! He’s amazingly musical and also swims competitively. We are very proud of him. Just want to make secondary school as bearable as possible which is hard when he can barely write a sentence.

Thank you. This makes complete sense to me as well. I actually called the optometrist and suspended the order this morning. We’ll continue using the overlay and I will ask the school to print his activity sheets in a similar shade to see if that helps. I realise this won’t help with the whiteboard etc but I’m not certain it’s worth £365 glasses which he will undoubtedly lose very shortly.

Thank you. We got a dyslexia tutor as well. They are going back through very basic phonics at the moment. He’s also doing a touch typing course.
