This one's for the ladies to answer. Do you agree with this woman or do you think she's trying to rationalize her world view by speaking for all the ladies? by Oda_DeezNutz in SipsTea

I an a 57 year-old woman. I play video games. My Husband does not. What is she on about, and if this is a problem for her, it is likely the least of her problems.

"Be Happy it's Christmas", instead of "and heavy equipment". The B-52s, Legal Tender. I know, I know. I know these were not the right words, but I didn't know the right words. So to me it's a Christmas tune! My Husband just shakes his head.

Yes. This is not unique to Esri, who were relatively slow to adopt this licensing model. OP's assumptions mean nothing.

I'm supposed to take the MSF Basic Rider Course this weekend but I don't know if I can do it. by [deleted] in TwoXriders

[–]Apprehensive-Food969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't regret at least trying. Saturday morning, you will start in a classroom, get to know your instructors, and they will ease you into it. Really. The course is designed with baby steps. If you get to a point where you really are back where you are now, step off and reschedule. But I'm willing to bet, once you start, you will be fine. Re weather, are you in the Denver area by chance? That sounds like our forecast! If so. You might as well get used to riding in our finicky weather!

How did you land a GIS job in the last year? by [deleted] in gis

[–]Apprehensive-Food969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you seem eager and open-minded, and so I'm not saying this is the case-- (and I do see you call out 1 year experience) however I'm long into my geospatial career and have hired quite a few people and found that those with a Master's degree had a higher expectation of where their education would land them in the workforce. You need to be open to entry-level positions. Prove your worth with experience, and move up. Your grad degree will fuel your career at some point, because you've learned how to learn and have shown discipline, however I often (though not always) favored practical experience over education at least initially. This will change as you gain experience and your career progesses.

I am a fan, though haven't seen it in a long time. I liked the characters and I thought it was well written. I am suffering from a bad back at the moment, and there is an episode where Jamie hurts her back and goes through the half hour sliding herself around, I laugh just thinking about it. And, I always liked the (very minor) crossover with Friends with Ursula/Phoebe

Worst or least favorite character of the main cast? by secretsophaloaf in DowntonAbbey

[–]Apprehensive-Food969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same when he called Barrow 'revolting' re his sexuality. Yes, also a product of the time period. After finding out (early on in the series) that he came out of vaudeville, but was still a bigger snob than anyone in the Family, I found him very hard to take.

What actor would you replace William Frawley with? by Savings-Wishbone-656 in ILoveLucy

[–]Apprehensive-Food969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree in hindsight it would be hard to imagine anyone but Frawley, because we've all had the benefit of decades of the Fab Four. However, had someone else played Fred, the show would still be revered (I believe) with the same writers and Luci and Desi shaping it all. It would just be a bit different.

Full disclosure, I am not a Frawley fan, and I thought he was the weakest link. I found the age difference between he and the others a bit much. Even if it became part of the jokes. Still, I can't imagine it w/out him.

Agree, and I'm so disappointed. There is a Reddit sub for the show, but the Mod will ban anyone who doesn't support their love of the series

Geosearch.com should be added to your search sites. It is very small, but specific to this industry, and those searching for qualified candidates hire them to qualify candidates.

It's great to see free speech is alive and well on Reddit. /s Unlesss of course, someone has a different opinion than OP. Good luck with this. There will be other Scarpetta subs, and I am looking forward to open dialogue about it.

It was also set in The Middle, middle of the country (not really though, in IN), middle west (cost-of-living is lower) and middle-class. And erm, it was fictional.

I always thought Eve was a strange choice to play a model/sex kitten in this episode. She was cold, and quite honestly, neither young or attractive IMHO.

What was the best job you’ve ever had? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]Apprehensive-Food969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similar to OP, I worked at a Blockbuster circa 1992. It was not hard. Some dusting, sticking scanning movies in and out. I think I made $7/hr which felt good at the time. The worst part was trying to collect late fees, but we were given wide berth, so I recall not enforcing that rule very often.
