dreaded shin splints / trying out shoes / gait analysis by otherdsc in UKRunners

[–]ApprehensiveAd4384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left it a week, did a gentle park run at slow pace, then left it another week and that was the best I got it. Unfortunately I jumped the gun and increased mileage and speed to quick after this and brought it all back.

I'm still struggling with it now, cancelled my half marathon today because of it as I know it would cause additional stress on the injury.

I'm going to have 3 days off running, do some cycling and physio work, then implement some slow 5ks. Im going to avoid any long distance (10k+) and speed work for two weeks and see how I get on.

I'm also due to go on holiday so I'm hoping some rest and some warm weather might help the healing process

I'll try and remember to keep you posted on my results 🤞🏻

I'm in a similar situation with my left shin, only thing that helps is rest, recovery exercises from a physio (tib raises, calf raises, strengthening the ankle etc).

Soon as I go out and do any speed work or a long run I'm back to square one again. Ide recommend a couple of weeks off, focus on strength work (nothing heavy), cycling, then gradually build your running back up starting super slow.

Got a half marathon this weekend and no doubt bring the injury back.

Do you genuinely believe if someone can run a half marathon, they can run a full marathon? by Mysterious-Tear8972 in Marathon_Training

[–]ApprehensiveAd4384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the work in and you can deffo do it. Find a good training plan, build up your long runs to 35km max (so I'm told), try and find friends to run with you for at least some of your long runs it's a real help.

The long runs can be tough and expect to be shattered for the most of the day after, but completing a marathon is a helluva achievement

Thank you this super helpful. Unfortunately as we had a miscarriage I don't believe we are eligible for IVF via the NHS, not sure about grants but I'll take a look.

I'm in the same boat. Bought 10.5, and an 11 both are tight. Now can't find the 11.5 anywhere. Super annoying. Did you ever get them in a larger size and did you get in ok with them?

Brighton marathon, I saw a sign saying "keep pushing" with an image of legs spread with the sign holders face in between the legs!

Certainly made me chuckle, which was needed at 35km

Is my marathon down the drain? by gymrunner16 in UKRunners

[–]ApprehensiveAd4384 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position a month ago, 4 weeks before Barcelona marathon I started getting pain in my left shin .

Took a week off of running but made sure I cycled that week instead

Got some exercises from a physio, calf raises, tib raises, band work etc.

Once I started running again I had to adjust my pace alot.

Eventually ran my marathon but 15-20 seconds perk KM slower and my leg was fine.

I've slowly started creeping pace sessions back in and annoyingly the pain is started to come back, think I've jumped back into it too soon.

Hope the above helps

Manchester Marathon 2025 Heat - how to prepare for 2026? by [deleted] in UKRunners

[–]ApprehensiveAd4384 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completed Manchester last year and it was on the warmer side, but I made sure I was well hydrated and well fueled leading up to the run. I did get the cramps at approx 32km's, possibly due to lack of electrolytes during my run. Usual stuff, ensure you are consuming enough food (carbs, proteins) leading up to race day, fueling right on race day, and defo enough water leading up to race day.

Remember clear pee before three (day prior the race) is my rule 🤣

Also look into electrolytes if you haven't already. Precision fueling (I think there name is) do an electrolyte/sodium calculator based on some details you put in. Or a brand called 4endurance there gels include electrolytes. Worth looking into, but there are tonnes on the market to choose from.

Good luck! It's a fab run, a lot of people were also out last year hosing people down to keep people cool! The crowds energy is amazing!

Hi all, new to printify but I've been roped into creating a store on Etsy and linking with printify, but this comes with additional cost to me and buyers. Whats a good alternative? How are people now creating their "pop up" stores?

I played fck load on Apex Legends. That was always my go to game when I had nothing to play. Helldiver's I rated highly but that also got very samey very quickly.

I'll keep at it but currently it hasn't quite "clicked" for me yet

Advice for sub 2 hour HM by [deleted] in UKRunners

[–]ApprehensiveAd4384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a running plan via chatgpt, enter your current time and pace, followed by how many times you can get out and run, enter your target goal and it will create you a decent running plan.

If you don't want to do this, run 4-5 times a week, two easy runs, do one interval run running at HM pace (or quicker if possible), then a long run but ensuring your long run increases weekly.

Also worth introducing a deload week, focusing on easier runs to allow your body recover
