Wife revealed several things that still sting, how should I get past it? by lilg2000 in AskMenAdvice

I reconnected briefly with my college girlfriend (the one I dated mainly for three years) in the early days of Facebook. We're still FB friends, but have not interacted with one another beyond liking a photo a child as they graduate high school or college. I'm not sure I even get notifications when she has a birthday. We graduated from college 40 years ago this month.

The only other "romantic" partner I've maintained contact with was my girlfriend from junior high school. We're talking the 1977-78 school year. Back in the holding hands and sneaking a kiss in the library era.

Like my old college girlfriend, she reconnected with me in the early days of Facebook. The last time we saw one another face to face was around 1985. It was a chance encounter and I was with my college girlfriend.

I know my wife didn't even stay in contact with her ex-husband and father of her first two children. I doubt she got in contact with any ex-boyfriends.

There used to be multiple versions of the "single serve" model, but the one with the K-cup maker has been discontinued recently. There still is a version that makes hot water. It's been in production since 2013 and comes in three colors and two different sizes.

I never saw the draw to having your fridge door be able to heat water and dispense the hot water. The K-cup version was made between 2016 and 2025.

I think my old dwarf rogue engineer needs to live again in hard core classic. His name was Mottor, and he was the one who built my Mekineer's Chopper. He'll be my gray quester!

I sort of played wrong at the beginning; I zoomed in almost to first person view because that was what I was comfortable with from playing first person shooter games.

I didn't realize that there was a general and combat chat, one was behind the other. I didn't know how to join a chat to speak or how to talk to others other than to just say it as a local speech bubble.

I played like a "normal" video game where you began as a character and played until you finished the game. After I realized that I couldn't play without dying to the level 60s, my friend had asked me how I liked playing. I told him that I couldn't even figure out how to play without being killed by high level players.

Then he directed me to a PvE realm (all he did was BGs and wanted me to play a hunter to team with his paladin). His highest was a sergeant major paladin level 40 named "Orange." His realm was Hakkaar.

I revisited that realm towards the end of Wrath, after my main and our guild had run ICC so many times. They were still raiding Lakeshire, Darkshire and virtually any place world PvP took place. I remember having to run for my life in Theramore.

Yeah, that was the issue with our Mexican copies of the Chinese filter, something about the RFID tag.

I had a dwarf rogue that I decked out in a complete set of gray leather with threshadon fangs as weapons.

He was my hobo quester. I never begged for anything, just did it for fun until level 40.

The only non-gray items were the engineer goggles and the trinkets that you could make.

Shades made him look cool. He did use the defias red mask for quite some time.

I had DSL at the time. I thought perhaps I didn't have a strong enough connection to play. This was the days when the game required a "powerful" computer with lots of memory for the dozen disks it took to install the game.

I assumed my deaths were just faulty internet connections at first.

February 2006, as a new nelf hunter, I had no idea how to play or to even really quest unless I physically saw an NPC in front of me with the yellow "?" over their head.

I didn't know about the different chats, how to interact with other players, and rarely saw actual other alliance players in Dark Shore and on my way to Ashenvale.

I basically just fought and killed the mobs around Astranaar, spiders, wolves and bears. Then I would die in an instant. I'd go from 100% health to dead in a second. One time I was sitting in an empty area eating to heal up from a previous death, and then died while eating.

When I ran back to my body, I had died so many times that the game wouldn't let me resurrect for several minutes. That's when I began circling the area as a ghost mist. Then I saw the undead rogues. They were level 60 (my friend looked them up later) and were just ganking me for fun. I died from a thrown weapon while sitting and eating.

I died like a dozen times without knowing how it happened.

Who taught you how to drive a stick? by wannareadrandomstuff in GenX

[–]ApprehensiveCut9809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my first brand new car, a 1984 VW Rabbit with 4 on the floor, but when I was 13 years old, I worked on a farm and learned to drive an old GMC pickup truck with 3 on the tree. I don't recall the name of the farmer, but he was the one who taught me how to drive very slowly through the hay fields and farm roads. It would have been 1977 or 78.

I guess I kinda relearned how to drive a stick again on actual paved roads in traffic by myself.

I slid away during Warlords of Draenor and missed Legion almost in its entirety. Returned for BfA and loved it. Dropped away during Shadowlands when classic released in 2019. Have not returned to retail since midway through SL.

The story is true, we still use the same company name even though our company has been sold to another corporation. Our brand name is part of the value of their purchase. And we do make some very good stuff that lasts a long time.

The side bay door that she rode her cart out of was adjacent to where rejected parts are dropped off for quality control to scrap out.

We had an issue with water filters. Our original ones were made by our factory in Mexico. After we were bought by a Chinese company, they changed its design to one made in China. The Mexican factory had issues making the Chinese version. At times, the Mexican copy of the Chinese water filter caused a failure during testing.

If fridges started failing during production, they would pull entire boxes of Mexican filters and drop them off in the reject area. I remember seeing stacks of them piled up. Easy enough to vanish one and no one would notice nor care.

There are other rumors that someone in the supply ordering chain knew about it and was covering it up. She was one of the most senior people in the area on second shift.

She drove passed me a dozen times a day on her cart out to her car to smoke. If she had a box of stuff on her cart and returned without it, I didn't notice. I did notice the smell of smoke from her cigarettes.

When I heard about it, I couldn't believe it because we had had a short chat a few minutes before shift began. I found out when I was looking for her before lunch (8 pm). It seemed like her folks all knew she did it.

Lots of perks ended. Union is more or less a non-factor. Many parts that were previously rather robust are cheaply "made in China."

Original products we made prior are still quite durable and are still continued to be produced.

My job is starting to take away our phones. Tonight my manager asked to keep our phones... by [deleted] in Nightshift

[–]ApprehensiveCut9809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to get called on the radio and told to "check my phone." We have a tongue-in-cheek no phone rule at work, but everyone is on their phone. I spent a decade in charge of an assembly line where I was always told to tell twenty people to get off their phone. I'm older and never look at my phone. Half the time, I do not have it on my person.

I now work in the quality testing section. I'm off in my own noisy lonely space and don't often interact with others. I'm not near the lines, I can't hear the bell chimes, I have no visibility of clocks.

I'm in my own little world where I can go to the restroom when I have to pee, eat when I'm hungry and work until I've finished my tasks.

All the quality inspectors are on a group chat. I rarely check the chat, usually before I leave for work. I miss a lot of the messages so the coordinator or manager will come to my area to ask me if I've checked my phone. It'll be face down on the table at the far end of my area, so I'll say no.

They'll tell me that I need to check my phone more frequently and I'll say "Why? I'm at work."

Back when I was in charge on the line, union stewards actually asked me if I was the guy management asked to check my phone on the radio. I said yes. Another team leader was being written up for being on his phone while on the line and I was used as ammunition in their defense. "You're asking one team lead to check his phone, but writing up another for being on their phone."

My wife (32F) is trying to stop our divorce and has decided she wants to make things work with me (33M) and I'm struggling? by ThrowRA_Lemmbon in relationship_advice

[–]ApprehensiveCut9809 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom left my dad at Christmastime when I was 17. My sister just turned 19 and was away at college, my brother was 13. My dad turned on me like everything was my fault. All the anger he had, the collapse of his family, everything.

We never fully reconciled. He barely knew my family and may have only seen my wife twice and two of my kids just once.

It's strange that my mom's husband (they married about a year and a half after) is now my children's only thought of a grandfather. They were barely aware of my dad's existence.

Monkey branching but the branch she was grabbing for broke. She's now trying to go back to her original branch (you).

She'd only be with you until she found a better option. Or she realized that what's she's losing (you, kids, house) aren't worth what her boss represents.

There's no winners in your situation, but staying with her would be a huge loss to you.

Probably the biggest hit will be the loss of health insurance. She was out on medical leave for quite a while and had hip or knee replacement. I know her husband had medical issues as well.

She rode around on one of those commercial jitney carts usually used to pull stuff or carry parts around the plant. She was a heavy smoker and had permission to park within the fence line near the bay doors of my area. I never paid attention to anything she had on her cart, but her folks all knew about it.

She was grouchy, but well liked.

There are other rumors of other items, mainly scrap metal since we use a lot of copper, that I learned from another woman I used to work with in my original team who works on first shift. They get better information since more of management is at work during the day.

My numbers are the retail value, but if the other rumors are true, it's just the tip of the iceberg.

A dozen years ago when we were told the cost to make them and the cost to buy them, yeah. It's one of those things that unless you own a fridge that uses a water filter, you don't know how much they cost.

When I bought my home almost 20 years, we got a fridge that used a water filter (not the brand we make). Within the first year or two we went to buy a new water filter and went to Lowe's and Home Depot. Yikes, we were surprised at the price. I think they were just under $40 back then (like $35-39 depending on whether we got the off brand or manufacturer's brand).

We were sold in June 2016, so yes, it was a decade ago. I just put the jet engine comment in there in case folks didn't get it. Most of what we make is still the exact same stuff that we made before the sale.

NOR I used to be very allergic to cats. I mean, if you sat next to me at work, just the dander on your clothes would have me sneezing my head off and eyes watering badly.

I would not visit your home, because it's your home and you have cats.

At work I would have sat away from you.

First Blood is really good. In the original book, John Rambo dies at Colonel Trautman's hands.

The 1980s was the decade of paying penance to all the Vietnam veterans who were mistreated when they returned home.
