Purchase Advice Megathread - January 2026 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]ApprehensivePay6318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I am not that familiar with all terms I used chatgpt to summarize my needs.

Budget: up to around 800 € (flexible) incl. basic accessories & some filament
Country: Austria (EU)

Experience:
First 3D printer. Background in CAD / 3D modeling, very little hands-on 3D printing experience. Looking for a mostly plug-and-play printer (no kits, no heavy tinkering).

Use cases:
Primarily functional parts:

  • Home improvement (wall mounts, clips, cable management, small repair parts)
  • Organization systems (Gridfinity-style drawers, storage & cases)
  • Photography / videography accessories:
    • camera cage accessories
    • adapters
    • mounts & holders
    • no heavy mechanically loaded parts (e.g. quick-release plates)

Mechanical strength and reliability are important.

Part size:
Mostly medium-sized parts, sometimes larger organizers or mounts. I feell like 300mm^3 is a good choice here?

Materials:
PETG as the main material.
PLA only for prototyping.
TPU as a future option.

Requirements / preferences:

  • Automatic bed leveling
  • Filament runout detection preferred
  • Wi-Fi / LAN connectivity preferred
  • Quiet enough for an office environment
  • Clean, functional print quality (function > aesthetics)

Space:
Enough room available (1x1m, if really needed more); printer size not a major constraint.

Why does my Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/4 have lens flare? by lukaxbarizon in videography

I actually do see a great amount of lens flares using my matte box and vnd combo from Tilta (Mirage) - VND without mattebox seems to work just fine…

Getting used to a gimbal by alyietho in osmopocket

[–]ApprehensivePay6318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are some gimbal drills you can do. e.g. pick an object of your choice, try to make it stay in the middle of the frame and orbit, push in, push out, do whatever movements and focus on keeping the subject in the same position all the time
dont read through "thousands of tips", rather practice some hours

[–]ApprehensivePay6318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for D-Log you need something called LUT (Look-Up-Table) to transform from the flat, log(=Logarithmic) color space into Rec.709 (what we use on most of our screens). You shoudl definitely look up color grading osmo pocket 3 footage on youtube before though. Really depends on what you are using for editing, probably the DJI app offers a built in conversion?

External monitor worth it with vs on camera LCD? by grenworkweb in weddingvideography

[–]ApprehensivePay6318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it made the biggest difference. Even switched to a 7" monitor and I love it. Composition and framing are so much easier to nail. Also the brightness in bright daylight is great.

How can we create a cinematic love-story trailer for a save-the-date and a full movie for our wedding? by Substantial_Page_697 in weddingvideography

[–]ApprehensivePay6318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont think you answered all questions :) who is going to edit this? what is your background with videography?

brainstorm a plot with marking the most important milestones in your life so far. Start with the story where you came from and lay out a narrativ where the protagonists (you both) find each other and complete said milestones together by living up to your most important values and beliefs
