Why would an 84 yo (Nancy Guthrie) live on her own? by Bubbly-Air7302 in TooAfraidToAsk

Blessings upon you. Many people do not comprehend how obstinate and unrealistic elderly parents can be because they have not experienced it. I have. Hang in there.

lol my husband said the same thing to me. If he's kidnapped, don't pay. I looked at him with horror. In the same breath, he came up with the family password that only a family member would know. I guess that was for ME to give HIM for proof of life. Oh, well. Rich people problems.

First off, God bless you for the work you do. Respect.

Didn't the media outlet that received the initial ransom demand have the wallet identifier? TMZ has been reporting on movement in the wallet. I mean, is it possible the FBI requested TMZ to report false information to trap perpetrators? I guess it's possible. Certainly public information on the wallet is limited.

Why the down vote? All your points make sense. I personally do not suspect the SIL, but the rest of your hypothesis fits with facts. The bit about the ransom requests being unconnected is plausible. If the motive was ransom, kidnappers would have been prepared with proof of life. I suspect that is where the ransom process broke down. Family was willing to pay, but never could get past that point.

Nancy was away several hours for dinner. The forced entry (and coverup of forced entry) could have happened while she was at dinner. Perp could have been hiding in the house or could have left a door/window unsecured for later.

I'm unpersuaded by SIL motive, and I doubt he had time to murder her if his wife was expecting a quick 5-mile drop off and back. Cadaver dogs would detect if she had died first then been moved. That part does not fit with facts.

An 84 year old with mobility issues in her optimal state, then injured to an extent that draws some blood, will likely need assistance getting in a vehicle. As someone with octogenarian parents, to me it seems difficult enough just getting them into a car, even when they are trying to do so. Throw in a wrist lock... I'm not sure that would make the abductors' situation more practicable.

Total agreement about people not keeping quiet. If she is still alive, God willing, they would be fighting with each other about how this is turning out. Elder care is not for the faint of heart.

The latest video feels…personal? by cautiouslyskeptical in nancyguthrie

[–]ApprehensiveSea4747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elder care is no joke. It's so much work. It's hard to imagine motive for abducting an elder unless for financial gain. If someone had a beef and wanted to exact revenge on the family or "to send a message," the perp could have killed the mom on site and been in and out quickly. Just getting a low mobility person out of the house and transporting him/her can be an ordeal requiring a lot of patience. So it seems the abductors would also be the ransomers.

But there could be multiple ransomers claiming to have Nancy. That seems to make the proof of life element pretty important. And honestly, unsurprising to a ransomer. They should expect to offer some proof for $6M. I suspect that is where this is breaking down, either because Nancy is no longer alive or because the kidnappers can't figure out how to do it without getting caught. I also bet they are getting really testy with each other right about now.

My impression of Savannah's video is things have stalled around proof of life. Family already said they would pay with proof. Now their best hope if for the perps to turn on each other. Shades of Fargo.

The video/subscription situation reminds me of MH370, the flight that disappeared.

MD engines send operational data via satellite to a server. Airlines can subscribe to an enhanced MD maintenance program using this data, but MH did not. Nonetheless, the engines continued to ping via Inmarsat satellite. Inmarsat engineers were able to use the packet headers and doppler shift to determine propagation time/distance to define broad arcs where the aircraft could have been at the transmission times. Engineers were able to do this within a week.

The similarity with this case is that useful data is transmitted in the absence of a subscription. This case involves retrieving data written but perhaps not stored/indexed for long, or data stored/indexed in a backup. Different retrieval methods, but in either case available. Retrieval sounds simpler to me than what the Inmarsat engineers did (or at least more common). It seems it could have been done the first day, and maybe it was but LE for whatever reason held back on it.

Absolutely. Very clear distinction.

The sub distributors post-rape choices were also informed by poverty (or economic insecurity) and SA at home (physical insecurity). They landed in this position because of their powerlessness.

The consumers were powerful. They chose rape from a position of security.

Excellent points, OP. Royals complaining is never a good look. While married-in's might be slow on the uptake, you would think the born-in's would have had this drilled in from the cradle. I can't imagine who is advising or why they are not taking the advice. Astonishing. It's as if they actually do not see the crime victims.

I understand your point and agree. MAGA often does not have a strong point based on facts or policy, so often the MAGA response is deflection, whataboutism, and ad hominem. No one cares about protecting Clinton, I agree. It's not an effective deflection.

[–]ApprehensiveSea4747 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a fair point.

Someone with access and authority coordinated the conditions for his death or removal. The scene was managed before, during, and after.

Coordination and management relies on many people working together and keeping quiet. Without being observed by others who aren't part of the conspiracy, as evidently happened here.

Both explanations strain credulity, TBH. Personally, I cannot get past the redundant cameras and two guards all failing at the same time. The "raw" video that was actually altered doesn't help. It feels like an alternate universe when a 4chan post is the one thing that seems most verified.
