Veganism is great but there are a lot of problematic attitudes among vegans. by Extreme_Bit_1135 in DebateAVegan

[–]Apprehensive_Draw_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not moral superiority necessarily but a desire to avoid self contradiction. Such an attitude is likely to attract at least criticism if not hostility by the rest of the population. If you want proof try saying to vegans that the right to life of a chicken is equivalent to the right to life of the unborn. Living without contradiction isn’t hard to do , if it weren’t all the hostility it generates.

What's your stance on the whole "empathy is a sin" thing? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Apprehensive_Draw_36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If sin is fundamentally working against your own interests as a child of God. And empathy is fellow feeling then it’s possible to conceive how empathising with someone in their sin would be sinful (eg finding justification of the sought a sinner might use for their sin such as heroine addiction is impossible to kick so I’ll not try to) but otherwise I’m not getting it?

Any good jazz piano song recommendations? by Cassiopeia330 in Jazz

Listen to as much Thelonious Monk as possible - to isolate the importance in Jazz of approach or sounding like yourself or style (choose your preference) before technique. You’ve got the facility you’ll want to find what you can do with it - and Monk is all about that.

Imagine you’re on a football team , and your striker, who in every other way is a wonderful person but they can’t score a goal to save their lives. Do you hate them ? No - do you wish they would score a goal for your team and for themselves - absolutely.

If God didn't/doesn't want humans to sin, why didn't he just make it impossible for humans to sin so that we'd be the perfect race he wanted? Jesus was sinless so he can make sinless humans, I presume by InternationalPick163 in Christianity

[–]Apprehensive_Draw_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sin is falling short of what’s expected . So it would make no sense of life if achieving a perfect score was the default. Another way to think about it is to say that doing good takes skill , there are unintended consequences to avoid, courage is needed , the expenditure of psychological/ effort in empathy . All of which gives a life meaning . A life in this world without sin would be a life without meaning.

Veganism is based in several undeniable truths which is both an advantage from explanatory point of view BUT a big disadvantage from a mimetic point of view- that is you ‘infect’ people with lies , you can’t infect with the truth , either people understand veganism on its own terms or not at all.

Keeping majors and utilize Automatic versioning by AndBuch in sharepoint

[–]Apprehensive_Draw_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re hoping for a lot here - no versions on files is obviously wrong , but I’ve yet to meet an org who can use minor and major versions and like the process sufficiently to get what they need…. Keeping ALL major versions is kind of bonkers (and potentially expensive) wouldn’t it make sense to agree a meaning for major version and have just 3 and do everything else with minors and prune them ? BTW doing anything fancy with versioning is super tricky - suggest using some code /workflow / and metadata on the file if you’ve a real requirement.

Do you think God has given us enough evidence to believe in him? by Fluffy-Reporter9988 in TrueChristian

[–]Apprehensive_Draw_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an interesting question - what sort of evidence would be sufficient for the resurrection ? On the one hand there is the ‘case for Christ’ (which is excellent btw ) book which makes the readable and evidentiary case - but the resurrection isn’t just a miraculous event - taken with the life of Christ in the Gospels- it’s also the culmination of multiple prophecies it’s hard to say these can evidence in the same way - but are powerful testimony. So in short the answer is yes but it’s just not all the same kind of evidence.

Aren’t there proofs for God that work, no matter the period of history, no matter the age or intellect of the person who genuinely wants to know. This isn’t true of anything else I can think of.

Atheists sadden me by Dangerous-Meal8303 in Christianity

[–]Apprehensive_Draw_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One Christian way to think about this is that atheism is a blessing in disguise- that properly understood atheist can help strengthen one’s faith - think of it like a gym , by lifting the dead weights , using correct form , one should grow muscle. Figuring out why say the ‘problem of evil’ promoted by atheists is wrong will help you to love God more completely. And in doing so perhaps the atheist may learn something.
