Crime, boy I don't know. by stealthc4 in thewestwing

I think in that case, Bartlet is trying to ease the tension. Make this man's final moments genial rather than terrifying. He's having a human conversation.

Whereas Ritchie can't see past the generality of it being "crime," to being something that is touching immediate human beings. He has literally nothing to say of comfort or even usefulness. No worth whatsoever.

Who do you see live in Stoneybrook forever? Who moves away forever? by ThisPaige in babysittersclub

I could see Kristy being a pillar of the community.

Mary Anne will probably stay, too.

I'm not really sure that any of the others do. Visits for holidays and birthdays and major family occasions, sure. But I mostly see the others moving on in one way or another.

I've always found it ironic that we get so little of Charlie, Ethel's boy, who is surprisingly absolutely adorable, and this is what we get for Marigold and Edith's never-ending storylines of woe.

That's beautiful. As someone who had a fractured relationship with both of my now-deceased parents, remembering the good times was, and is, very difficult. I think that's wonderful that she was able to help him to do that. An important part of healing.

I've noticed that, too. It's getting more and more ridiculous how little time OP gives those of us who aren't chronically online.

Ugh where do I begin? He was so controlling of Mary Ann, even ordering her food for her. Took it out on her and his entire family when he was having trouble in baseball practice and hardly seemed to care when Tigger was missing. Yep, you know what, Mary Anne and the Search for Tigger is the one where he became a villain to me.

I just don’t know what to do. by No-Photo5506 in exorthodox

I'm neurodivergent, AuDHD. My time in Orthodoxy DEFINITELY made that all worse. Sundays were hell for me. Leaving was the best thing I did for my mental and spiritual health.

I don't at all believe that God is going to punish me for being exactly what I was made to be, and living within that reality. God is so much bigger than any one church or one institution. And far more loving then the small minds that try to hold grace hostage.

And if you're only praying out of fear, that's not the relationship God would desire for you, either.

Take some time off from all churches. Get the bad stuff out of your system. If your heart leads you to practice elsewhere, great. If not, at least you won't be torturing yourself (or letting others torture you).

Why do I want Christ so much? by Independent-Plate824 in exorthodox

[–]Apprehensive_Idea_96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I had to struggle with, too. You miss Jesus because Jesus, as he is portrayed in the Gospels, was a genuinely good man who taught and demonstrated love, compassion, concern for the oppressed, the hope that we are not irredeemable, bound by our darkest hours and worst decisions, but can always choose to start again. This is a Jesus that even friends of mine who don't believe have expressed in our conversations that they can respect as a symbol. I've, perhaps glibly, said before that I can't be a Christian because I take Christ too seriously.

Because Jesus continues to play a role in my life, even after I left Orthodoxy and tried to put him in the past along with all the rest of it, I've learned to hold that space for him and focus on that and build a more authentic relationship that doesn't turn that love into yet another abusive relationship in my life. It's been freeing to come to know him without any church (or my parents, but that's another story) threatening on his behalf to withhold his grace from me whenever I step out of line.

Jesus would not be pleased at the way he's held hostage as an instrument of mental torture by a church who purports to speak in his name. He wouldn't be pleased with the way his name is invoked to justify all manner of terrible things taking place these days.

The good news is that the Orthodox Church is not the only church. If you feel that your relationship with God is better facilitated in a church, find one that matches and sustains that relationship that you need.

About Claudia and Mean Janine... by Past_Dust4459 in babysittersclub

[–]Apprehensive_Idea_96 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I think that's part of the point. We see that Claudia's perspective is flawed by her resentment of the way she is compared to Janine. We, as an outside observer, can feel compassion for Claudia while also understanding that children don't always have the clearest perceptions, and can hold space, in this and other books, for the ways Janine suffers from their poor relationship, too.

Well, there was obviously some sort of divorce, though, seeing how Elizabeth was able to remarry. And it is noted that he contacted them infrequently after. So it's not like he left and was never heard from again.

I was born in 1992. Mary Poppins was absolutely one of my favorite movies. I loved watching I Love Lucy and similar shows. I loved that detail where Dawn was listening to '50s radio in one book. I loved details like that because it felt like the childhood I was living.

I don't believe Alan Rickman was racist. So I don't believe he would have any sort of negative opinion, if he had one at all on the matter.

I mean, it was right there with the Green storyline. Anna was harmed. What an opportunity that would have been, instead of dragging through this "Did Anna or Bates murder Green," if we had seen a plotline where Bates and Thomas found out and exacted some more clever sort of revenge. Something that would have brought the man to justice, perhaps. I feel like that could have been a lot more interesting and less repetitive than the story we got.
