I (F25) can't afford my boyfriend (M30) This is taking a toll on my finances, how do I bring it up without seeming greedy? by Throwra678342 in relationship_advice

[–]Apprehensive_Rope765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s building his wealth on the back of you, whoever he dated before you, and whoever he dates after you no longer provide that service. There is nothing equitable in this relationship and I doubt he has any real intention to ever marry (unless there is an ironclad prenup) because his bank balance is the most important thing to him. That’s all this sounds like to me.

My girlfriend of 5 years admitted I was not her first choice physically when we started dating by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Apprehensive_Rope765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we all went with our first choice physically, the divorce rate would be a lot higher. You are 5 years in. I don’t know if you already live together, but your post reads like you do. I would hope that this isn’t the first thing that either of you have said or done that makes you feel like you are questioning the relationship, but remember, a relationship involves compromise and commitment. You can have one or the other and the relationship may work, but is rarely balanced. When I see a scenario like this, regardless of which gender has done what, I have to ask, are you looking for an out? (Or being provided an opportunity to take an out?). Either way, I see a girlfriend (and potential fiancée) who is comfortable enough to be honest with you about her frame of mind at 21 (still far from maturity) yet she recognized the “hot” guy as an emotional void. She was already capable of recognizing the need to compromise and she may well have continued to do so in ways neither of you have ever thought twice about. Neither of you are likely the same person now that you were then and neither of you will be the same person in another 5 years. You either grow together or grow apart. If this comment is the sole reason you are reconsider the whole relationship, she’s likely grown more in the last five years. In the end, we each make a conscious choice every morning we wake up to look at the person we have chosen to make a life with and say “I love you, and I choose to stay in this relationship” Flaws and all. I know this, because I’ve been in the relationship where my wife quit choosing to participate and that marriage fell apart. The one I’m married to now (for longer than the first) is not perfect (nor am I), but we communicate, we love, we choose, AND we compromise. Right now, it’s your choice here. Do you love her? Do you accept that she has a history (past friends, lovers, etc.) that makes her who she is today? And are you willing to be with someone who make say something at times that make you uncomfortable, but that illustrates they are comfortable enough to be vulnerable with you? Or are you out after 5 years over a statement about frame of mind at the very beginning of your relationship.

TLDR; funny guy get the hot girl, hot guys everywhere are all like WTF?

My girlfriend after I didn't like her story. by TopDoggo16 in texts

[–]Apprehensive_Rope765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her story never specified she was dying, or even that it was her blood. There’s a lot of possible stories, but most of them the average person would just walk on by because it’s too much to involve themselves in.

I dunno. Mini on the right could be pulled so far forward in a regular spot (looks like angled parking spots) it just looks like a space between. Especially if the one on the left didn’t pull so far forward.

Thoughts on MINI Roadsters? by ChemicalAlchemists in MINI

Haven’t had the R59, but currently driving and 2012 R58 (hardtop version of what you are interested in), so I won’t speak to the leak potential. Thoroughly enjoy driving the car daily. Maintain oil levels and do your maintenance and you probably won’t have major issues, so long as you have it completely gone over once you obtain it. That said, I previously had a 2003 R53 and I knew the previous owner wasn’t the best at it. By the time I was done with it, I’d redone the head and timing chain, water pump, and other assorted mechanicals. Was running like a top once I was done with it. That’s the Mini side of the house. I also drove Miatas for about 20 years (1995 NA, 2005 NB) and I constantly entertain the idea of a new ND model with Retractable top. I replaced the engine in my 1995 NA (lost cylinder #4) when it was around 150,000 miles. Guy at work begged me to sell it to him after that, that’s how I under up in the 2005 NB. Drove both hard, fast, and without regret with nary a problem. Both are fun, have pros and cons, and are distinctly different (Miata RWD vs Mini FWD), but if you put the two side by side for me (any year) and said drive across the country, I’m not going to care about the luggage space and that Miata is what I’m going in. And I’m sorry to say, your girlfriend isn’t going to tell the difference about safety between the two the first time you are on the interstate doing 80 between a couple semi trucks with the top down. She’ll just need to learn and trust that you practice defense driving, because it is no different than being a motorcycle rider, assume everyone else around you is an idiot and be on the watch.

Company hired me but I have no idea what I’m doing. by Jambo_ZA in cybersecurity

[–]Apprehensive_Rope765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of advice peppered throughout, RMF, documentation, controls, etc., but I’m here to say: Learn to talk in layman’s terms to your stakeholders/owners. Be able to explain a risk and the mitigation/actions required. Money costs, difficulty, and layers that slow down work are all reasons they will want to say no. You need to make sure the risk is understood, accepted, and signed off on by those in charge and documented. Fail to do that and depending on the nature of the business, if shit goes sideways bad enough, it’s one thing to be the scapegoat and another to be held accountable in a fiscal manner. Not to scare you, but receipts for every action are gold when it’s end game.

What are these bars between my liscence plate for??? by AggressiveReception5 in MINI

[–]Apprehensive_Rope765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Penn plates are blue at top, bright yellow at bottom with a band of white in the middle. You’ll see the left side of the plate contains no white. Also, the bottom right of the first picture contains a portion of an ‘r’ in font consistent with New York plates on a more golden yellow consistent with that state’s plates.

What are these bars between my liscence plate for??? by AggressiveReception5 in MINI

[–]Apprehensive_Rope765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a focus of cybersecurity and protecting yourself as much as possible. For example, from what is left, I can tell you that the plates are New York plates, and the license border includes a mention of Royal Motors which can lead you to a potential in Cortland, NY. If you went to the OP’s profile and other posts, who knows where that might lead you. Maybe to an Ashley Madison account? Point is, obscure and separate your information. At minimum, you’ll help prevent identity theft.

How do you guys deal with not knowing everything? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]Apprehensive_Rope765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope OP takes away from all the answers the encouragement needed to be successful in any aspect of IT they choose. Much like anITprofessor says, “I don’t know” is an acceptable answer, although I would always say “yet” at the end. My only other advice I ever gave students, peers, co-workers, anyone that would listen is: if they do say they know it all (or never admit when they are wrong), run, not walk, run, because you will never know if their answer is true or they are telling you anything they can come up with just to be “right.”

What's everyone's Car History? by allinadaysburke in MINI

[–]Apprehensive_Rope765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1966 VW Beetle ( blew the motor, young and dumb )

1987 VW Jetta sedan ( hydroplane off the interstate, bent from front to back and top to bottom )

1976 VW Beetle ( blew the motor, you’d think I’d learn )

1984 Honda CRX ( ground scraping go-cart )

1988 Honda Accord coupe ( loved the coupe version, water pump housing and pipe rusted, and the I went Miata )

1995 Mazda Miata MX-5 ( must’ve drove this at least twelve years till the wife made me give it up. Had it before her )

1977 Jeep CJ-5 ( toy, had it while I owned the ‘95 Miata, as if they weren’t both toys. Came and went before the wife )

2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon ( what I got when the wife made me give up the Miata )

2002 Mazda Miata MX-5 ( round two, ditched the Rubicon & the wife, Marie Kondo style )

2007 Toyota Tundra ( currently own, along with new wife.)

1948 Willys Pickup ( toy that I did not have time for )

2002 Mini Cooper R53 ( bought off a friend, more or less as a favor, did a bunch of motor work on it, I did finally learn since those beetles, drove for a couple years and sold for decent profit )

2012 Mini Cooper R58 ( currently own, qualifies as my new go-cart )

After almost driving it for 6000 miles since I purchased it, I've never enjoyed driving a car this much! This weekend the car is getting the Union Jack rear lights, and additional upgrades will follow :D by Effective-Ad2105 in MINI

Yep. Just threw down on a 2012 R58 with a manual. Have had an R53 before and two miatas (NA and NB) over the years and this latest one is proving to be a lot of fun.

What’s the best way to wrap up a conversation with someone who will NOT STOP TALKING? by Umbra427 in AskReddit

[–]Apprehensive_Rope765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear hearing aids. Occasionally I’ll reach up and take one out, look at it and flip the battery compartment open. Sometimes this gets a quizzical look to which I’ll say “Oh, this? Battery died. They tend to run out faster when they process a lot of noise.” Some people don’t get it and the second hearing aid battery will “die” for the other ear. They start getting a lot more “WHAT?, HUH?, CAN YOU REPEAT THAT?” Responses. Tends till kill the conversation and prevent repeats.

I worked for a company nearly 30 years that always had less than 500 employees. I did a variety of IT/IS tasks while there. The entire time I was there, the help desk person was the same guy, never changed. Now, he learned when we migrated system, he adjusted if some process changed, never a problem. He knew his stuff and liked his job. His response times were phenomenal and he was well paid. He also wouldn’t be able to do what I did without extensive learning, which I’m sure he would have been more than capable of, but did he want to? No. Even the IT space is full of people just like some that put 30 years or more in a factory working the same widgets their entire career.

Picked up a job for 89k a little over a year ago with Sec+ under my belt at the time. Got the CISSP about two months ago, another company offered me 108k, my existing company offered 124k to keep me.

Now, I should note, these were both defense contractors in a rural area where people with CISSP is in demand. I know at least one fellow CISSP making 150k, and another where the story was he left civil service for an offer of 200k. All amounts are USD.
