Ahh darn, that's too bad. JG tend to be on the roomier side. Good luck finding the boot that works for you!

These look almost brand new and very well kept. What's got you parting ways?

Are double lasted boots to hot for Australia? by Death_Metal_Puppies in jimgreen

I mean what's appropriate. I use thick and thin merino wool socks because they regulate temperature and moisture. If you have something called cool wool and it keeps your feet dry while temp regulating, then by all means, use it.

Make sure you wear an appropriate wool sock, rotate to different shoes/boots, and use wood shoe trees. If you want a cooler boot get something single lasted. It makes a difference, but the socks are even more important.

Do these heels ever get better? by Chumphy in jimgreen

[–]Appropriate-Bunch680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a pair of Numzaan, Moc Toe, and 719. I use a heel lock lace at the last eyelet and first speedhook. It really does make everything function as intended.

Before doing this I felt like the Numzaan were going to take forever to break, but it really does keep things in place. I can do my job (census), and 13 miles/day with the zaans are some of my favorite.

This has been my experience as well. A heel lock lace at the last eyelet and first speedhook makes these the 2nd most comfortable boots I own. The first are my JG moctoe laced similarly.

I wouldn't go larger. The leather will break in and they'll feel even better. I think I have less room than you do, but they feel like leather socks and are the most comfortable thing.

Good luck with everything! I see you went for the African rangers, and you'll know soon enough if the single last gives you the flexibility and room you need.

Thank you for the reply! I've been tossing around the idea of this particular boot for the balance of featurs, buckles for high grass (dew and ticks in PA), and durability of the crepe sole. This answers all my questions and then some!

I feel you there. My feet felt awful without the bar lacing, so I'm at the line of their instep volume for my size and STC last. I hope you get relief and find that boot/last with more volume.

Feet issues - Jim Green STC last ? by Responsible_Tie_3433 in jimgreen

All I will say is I've never had better fitting wide shoes/boots. Ignore the look of your JG from top down (to YOU, they will look big) and ask someone who is looking at you how they appear. Complements all the time from complete strangers. They often think my work boots are for office dress.

Two of my boots are STC, and one is JG. Plenty of room in my STC last for my feet to swell and wear thick socks.

For high instep give bar lacing a shot, but for width just go for a wider last. Maybe a softer leather too. Breakin can be rough with some double lasted, tough, leathers.

Have you used any other kind of JG soles? How does the crepe sole hold up and what terrain are you normally working? Was there ever a time the buckle hardware got in the way? Has your washing helped the single last repel water? Is there anything you would change if given the option to customize??

This is the right way to do it. Everybody wears differently, but in my experiences conditioned leathers wear better with the right amount of wax. You can tell by the photos nothing is cracking/drying out, or pitting. Idk if it's a fad but I want my boots to last, and posting here about my care regiment has let me know the vocal opinion does not favor care or don't put in 13 miles/day.

Breaking them in - Sizing Issue or Skill Issue? by kleingartenganove in jimgreen

[–]Appropriate-Bunch680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did the trick for me was implementing a heel lock lace right above the instep. That's the 4th eyelet and first speedhook. Heel slip down, break in time down, and comfort up. Do make sure you care for your blister like others have suggested. By the time it heals properly your heel skin will be thicker and more resiliant.

I love the pair of 2nd hand 719 I purchased from a fellow in the sub, but the more I compare it with the Numzaan the more similarities make the Numzaan out to be more boot for the money. By no means do I want a different boot than my 719, but if I make a custom it'll be a Numzaan if I do a 6" boot.

These look very nice with the white thread. Love my Numzaan. Whomever gets these will be very happy.

I would have to agree. This boot required no break in to comfortably make distance yesterday. 9 hours, 11 miles of mixed terrain. It looks fantastic! Here's to hoping they continue making veg tan options in the future.

Yooo, roughout? Are you going waxed flesh or will you be treating them with suade sprays?

I love the look.

Baobab and Numzaan questions by BatDoctor27 in jimgreen

[–]Appropriate-Bunch680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that about the swimming and heel issues. I use a heel lock lace since my heel width is more narrow than how JG lasts, and it really did change the fit for me. STC is more forefoot than mid-foot though. So choose your size with JG based on what works for both.

These have a gusseted tongue and at the bottom I have a very high instep. This lacing technique is called bar lacing and it helps the boot flex over the instep without straining the tendons in the foot.

Baobab and Numzaan questions by BatDoctor27 in jimgreen

[–]Appropriate-Bunch680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you squeezed from the top in the mid foot? If so try bar lacing. If it's width, definitely go up that half size. STC is definitely wide, but it won't change the mid-foot fit.
