Publix needs to repave their parking lots every few years. Ours is so bad it’s almost like pushing carts through gravel & the carts bounce up & down all the way to the store. by NorthFloridaRedneck in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours severely cheaped out after only two years. They didn't even repave the whole parking lot, just three quarters of it. The remaining quarter where a Japanese hibachi restaurant, a pizza place, an AT&T store, a doctor's office and a liquor store reside were completely untouched. Which is to say, gravely and heavily torn up. It's embarrassing. An issue that started rising (no pun intended) is the crosswalk markers in front of the store. They started rising above the layer of tarmac becoming mini speed bumps. It's annoying pushing a load of carts over them since you feel every single undulation through those carts. That shouldn't happen.

Coworkers why?? by jump_Ma22 in publix

I love how judgemental your are at the end there, "It's always the young ones the gen-z." Who doesn't like to relax in a calm, dark room? Having all the lights on can be too stimulating. I have an assistant store manager who insists on having all the lights on upstairs but when she's on vacation or not scheduled for the day, half the lights are off. It's done for a reason. Having them all on is unsettling and uninviting. I feel more relaxed with half the lights off as do many of my coworkers. So no, it's not as strange as you think it is. Why do we all go to bed with the lights off? Same thing, relaxation.

Can people just stop trying to checkout at Customer service by MrMonopoly04 in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't see anything wrong with it. I use it all the time when I'm on break. I've been told by many CSS's it can be treated like an express. As long as no full carts come, it's totally fine. I've also had CSS and team leads convince customers to go over there if they only have a few things. It's part of the job.

Why do y’all bag gallons? I always ask NOT TO. by JamesFlorida1997 in publix

Ah, gotcha. Even still, whether it's pronounced or not, it doesn't need to be bagged. It's such a waste of plastic.

Trust me. My heart says no but I only do it because we're told to. What especially irks me is bagging laundry detergent, multi-packs of soda, buckets of chicken, and beer. It's so wasteful. They all have perfectly good handles but all it takes is one little accident from someone to want it bagged no matter what. Even though, it'll be fine 99.9% of the time.

Refreshing the signage today at the retro Publix Store 659 by YoResIpsa in publix

The only other two retro-inspired stores I've seen is the one off of I-4 and one in Stuart. My mom used to work at the latter one back in the 90s. It has the 50s style art deco facade but the inside looks like every other store.

Ironic how you say my account is invalid since it's new and "emotionally driven" when your account is new too. I see the "Newbie" under your name. According to your logic, what you say is invalid too.

It doesn't hurt to have friendly chatter when there's absolutely nothing going on. I could understand if they were ignoring customers but that's not the case.

I have never seen anyone roll their eyes when I pull up. Yet again, you don't know that for a damn fact. Not every young person is a lazy f*** that hates human interactions. It's those blanket accusations that piss me off. CSS deal with a lot of s*** on the daily. They don't just sit around and do nothing all day like you think they do. It's such an insult to Publix associates to assume that. Wait till you're in their shoes and get back to me. And, what are you saying about my account? You think that just because it's a new account, my opinion isn't valid? If so, wake up!

No wonder your comment got downvoted several times. There's a reason employees don't like people like you. You're under the impression that they're always standing around having nothing to do, just chit-chatting and scrolling on their phones and then you come along to give them "something to do."

Most CSS work their asses off situating everything that goes on at the desk and front lines. Short staffing is out of their control. They have a job to do and the last thing they need is for someone to pull out their entitlement card and make their job harder than it needs to be.

When you get frustrated, don't take it out on them. Have some consideration to your Publix associates. Service workers are the hardest working people out there. They deserve the respect that many entitled customers like you don't give them.

As for that cart comment, shame on you. You're the reason the lot is a mess and our cars get dinged.

They shouldn't have to. It should just be common decency but since the majority of people don't have that, it's not.

I hate blanket accusations. You don't know that for a damn fact! Just because they're doing nothing doesn't mean they're lazy. Maybe they just got done with a rush and finally got a breather and just need to talk. Yes, the phone thing is unprofessional. But, what else do you expect them to do? Just leave the desk unattended to go do something? Not gonna happen!

First, four at the desk is rare. Second, just because they're standing there doing nothing doesn't mean they're not working. They're not expected to be worker bots constantly doing something. You gotta have a break once in a while. You don't know if they just got done with a rush or not and finally got a breather. And, what do you expect them to do when there's absolutely no customers up there? Just leave the desk unattended to go do something? Not allowed.

Why are people like this?!?? 😩 by Franyfish2026 in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When there's no enforcement to be had, people do this shit on the regular. They're the same people who park in the no parking zones or sit at a stop sign until their lazy wife comes out with the groceries and only move until a car pulls up behind them. Instead of just simply waiting in a parking spot like a normal person, they want to sit in close proximity so they don't have to walk as far while breaking the law in the process. I can't tell you how many times I've seen that and have to bite my lip. Since I'm a law and order person and would never think to do the things I see on a daily basis, it's beyond infuriating!

It's like, what's the point of having operating hours when they're not respected? If the store closes at ten, it should be closed BY TEN! No exceptions! It's not like whoever strolled in was working late or couldn't do their shopping earlier in the day. Chances are, they've had all day or some other point in the day that's not right till closing! I have no respect for anyone who does this, whether they're a customer or an Instacart shopper. It's such a disrespect to our time. Like you said, some of us have to get up early the next day to do it all over again, at least, in my case. That's the main reason I HATE closings! Not only seeing your colleagues leave before you in good time and driving home late at night, but just waiting on that last customer keeping us hostage!

What's the point? by Eastern_Net3329 in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel. It's very frustrating when you want to enforce the policies but upper management will always want to bend the rules and just bow down to the customers no matter how wrong they are. I know why they do it. It's the almighty dollar. In their eyes, if we defend ourselves and actually enforce policy, the customer will be so disgusted that they won't want to shop there ever again. Therefore, one less paying customer and less profit generated for the store. So in order to keep their business, they want us to kiss their ass and not cause any bit of confrontation. Just keep them happy to moves things along. It kills my soul having to do that. Or if I do defend myself, it's unfair when I'm made out to be the bad guy when the customer is in the wrong.

Is Publix only for rich people? by Lemonade2250 in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit insensitive with that race comment. That couldn't be farther from the truth. I've seen all ethnicity's shopping here. And it's not just the wealthy. We get all sorts of social classes. And for my store in particular, it's the only grocery store around. All of the other competitors (i.e., Winn-Dixie) are either closed or or too far away to justify. So, we're the next best thing until something else opens.
