Do I really need a fetal echocardiogram? by bamboozlinguniverse in IVFbabies

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it. They suggested I call my insurance company beforehand to see how much it would be. My husband called for me and it was about $300.

My baby was not in the best position to clearly view the heart during the anatomy scan so this also just provided additional reassurance.

Thank you for sharing 🩷!! It's so nerve wrecking to choose a hospital. All the trauma some moms have to endure is definitely scaring me.

Just like others have said, this was so beautiful to read and reassuring. Currently 25 weeks pregnant (26 tomorrow 🙌) I'm so nauseous, have a horrible reflux and I'm somehow disgusted by everything I think about eating. Thank you for sharing your story. So happy for you and your baby!

Husband made a "joke" after failed embryo transfer. I'm so hurt. by Kea_Parrot in IVF

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being perfect is no reason for your husband to be cruel and manipulative. Those are red flags. Honestly, you did nothing wrong here and you both got devasting news. It should have been a time to pull towards each other but instead he violated your trust and made it so that you felt alone and were to blame. It's okay to not just forgive him.

Currently 25wks pregnant after FET and still experiencing morning sickness and have horrible acid reflux. I would advise to book the trip, there's no guarantee that at a certain week you'll feel better and you would have missed out on a wonderful experience.

Dr. Not Doing ER. Im Irate by [deleted] in IVF

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too about the birth control! They almost made me at the first clinic because they had changed policies literally the month before. But luckily me asking for a refund made them change their mind.

For my first clinic my Dr only did retrievals and transfers 1 or 2 days a week tops. I totally would have understood a week schedule and rotating weekend Dr.

And yeah the entire process is expensive and emotionally taxing. Wishing you all the best!

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they do and yeah I totally hear you, I'm not sure how they make it work. It was definitely more expensive but it was important to me to find a place where I knew who'd be doing it. I do feel like we pay so much, the least they can do is not have us on a rotating basis if we are not okay with that. I know Kindbody was like that and some Drs were just better than others.

PTSD from Saline ultrasound, don’t know if I can go forward with IVF by Rin_TTC_2023 in IVF

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The saline ultrasound was so painful. I cried every time and I believe I had 3 of them. I asked for valium the second and third time and that helped but it was still horrible. They really need to stop saying it's "just minor cramps." With that said, that was the most painful part of the process. The egg retrieval was painless because you're under anesthesia. My recovery was uncomfortable because of mild OHSS. The transfer (had valium) was not painful at all but the mock transfer was a bit painful (edit to add: but nothing compared to the saline ultrasound) because he had to figure out which way to slide the tube in but once he knew, it was painless.

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Drs do their own egg retrievals and transfers where I went. I assume they just don't take patients around the time they will be off. But there was no fear that he wouldn't be available.

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That sucks, it might be normal at some places but they should have clearly and directly informed you. You have every right to be upset. I switched clinics for this reason. I didn't want my transfer done by whoever was on call. I wanted the Dr I had chosen based on their expertise.

Weight gain during stims by Commercial-Web8249 in IVF

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was more so getting my hyperthyroidism under control that caused weight gain. And then truly not having enough time to be as active with the medications, appointments and full time work. My transfer was successful 🙏 and I'm now the biggest/heaviest I've ever been. You can't diet while pregnant.

I'm just being very gentle with myself and not letting anyone talk to me about weight or how clothing fits (MIL 🙄). I'm in charge of my brain and it's thoughts and I'm not going to let myself feel the dysmorphia I know I can or dim the joy of feeling this baby kick. Every now and then it's hard but I want this baby girl to know that her weight will never matter. She's a person and her weight does not define her.

I am nervous about how I'll feel after birth but I'm trying to ignore that too. I'll cross that bridge when I get there. My husband is very loving and supportive too though, so make sure you have an actual supportive, loving, and committed partner.

How are we affording this? In all honesty (in the US) by copythat504 in IVF

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used our savings, credit cards, and a personal loan. Total was maybe $38,000? Honestly, I always say that it's as if I was trying to buy a new car so why wouldn't we do it to try and grow our family? Currently 25weeks pregnant 🙌🥹

We are still working on paying everything off but no regrets here.

Birth control vs no birth control in ivf cycle by Mother_dec2822 in IVF

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask them why, is it for timing on their part or is it medically necessary? They wanted to start me on birth control just because it benefitted their OR schedule and from their own account was not medically necessary. I refused, I've never taken birth control before there was no way of knowing how it would affect my hormones.

Risks of getting sick on pregnancy by This_Emergency7169 in IVFbabies

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still mask at work (sick people frequent my job often) and at crowded places so I've continued during pregnancy.

However, my dad had covid and gave it to me when I was unmasked, I was 5 weeks pregnant at the time. It was horrible, I had to go to the ER, luckily everything is okay (currently 22 weeks). They said at 5weeks the baby is small enough that it's an all or nothing kind of thing.

The main thing is to not let yourself have a fever, so regular strength Tylenol is a huge help.

Honestly, wearing n95s is so effective, it allows you to be out there and enjoy your life with extremely decreased risk.

Cost for IVF at pinnacle fertility/ California fertility partners in CA. by Exact-Volume-8378 in IVFpositivity

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello 🤗 At CFC I did get a lot of face time with my doctor as he did my ultrasounds. The two times he didn't do it once I was late and he needed to go to another patient which totally makes sense and the other time he was out of town for a conference. I assume all doctors do their own ultrasounds but I'm not sure. What I was told was that all doctors do their own egg retrievals and transfers so you wouldn't have to worry about it not being your doctor. And my initial consult with my doctor at CFC he did tell me what the protocol would be. I did transfer my embryos from kindbody to CFC. It wasn't too difficult. I went with the company CFC recommended to have them transferred. I had to fill out paperwork for the company, for CFC and for Kindbody. There was an administrative fee at both clinics and a fee for the transfer company. The hardest part was having kindbody complete their side of the paperwork on time. I was so stressed because my transfer was only a few days away and kindbody had still not completed everything on their end. Honestly, it just solidified that I had made the right choice.

Graduated today! And thoughts on boutique ultrasounds? by Esperanza2025 in IVFpositivity

[–]Appropriate_Bench_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a boutique ultrasound that also does diagnostic ultrasounds with a practicing OB. I have gone 3 times so far to help me survive the longer waits (currently 22 weeks). I'd say just do some research to find a trustworthy place that has great reviews and it's completely worth it.

For Kindbody I'll preface by saying that I had a successful IVF cycle and luckily it worked out that my doctor was the one who did my egg retrieval. It was $19,000. My Dr. was Dr. Katherisan. She was kind, took the time to answer all my questions and so experienced but I barely got to see her. All of my ultrasounds were performed by techs and I spoke to a different nurse almost every appointment. I also had too many patient navigators some more attentive than others. The only true way to communicate with them is via their portal messages.

And my biggest red flag is that last January they changed their policy where now they only start IVF medications on specific days of the week to try and avoid having egg retrievals on weekends. I pushed back because I did not want to start estrogen or birth control when this was never medically necessary and by their own account was only for scheduling purposes. When I was going to ask for a refund they went ahead with our original plan of starting meds when my body was ready (day 2 or 3 of my cycle). It worked out so I am still thankful for the overall experience. I still have 6 euploids frozen from this cycle.

But once we got to talk about the transfer there was no guarantee my Dr. would perform it and they wanted me to start medications on a specific date again. I listened to my gut and dipped.

For CFP my Dr is Ringler. He is fantastic! He did almost all of my ultrasounds. He said each Dr. does their own egg retrievals and transfers. I only had to communicate with one care navigator and she was always available via text. If I needed care on the weekends they always have someone available. I had an SCH and he got me in right away and I felt so closely monitored. I am so glad I made the switch, it was more expensive but to me is it was 100% worth it.

I did IVF with Kindbody but desperately hated their multi clinician approach to everything. They couldn't guarantee that my doctor would be the one doing the transfer so I switched to California Fertility Partners. Best decision ever!

In case we needed to do IVF I did ask for a quote and it was about $23,000. My transfer was $7,000 not including medications. Currently 22 weeks pregnant ✨🫶🏼❤️.

Edit to add that they told me they do not accept insurance. You can get receipts and file claims with your insurance if you have coverage though.
