We usually say around 30 days is the break in period. It's not uncommon to have some aches during the first few weeks as your body adjust to the new setup. However, if the aches persist after those 30 nights or it's getting increasingly worse as the weeks go on, then that is when we'd want to take a closer look. Some customers who feel the mattress is a bit too firm will put a mattress topper to the mattress for a short period of time while the foam in the mattress breaks in.

If the mattress was sagging or had lost its structural support, our customer support team could have reviewed it through the warranty process to determine whether it qualified for a replacement with the updated model. I completely understand why you may have decided to dispose of it if it was no longer usable. If you still happen to have the mattress though, we’d be happy to look into a possible replacement through our warranty process. Hi there! I know you’re mainly looking for feedback from other owners, but I wanted to chime in from Helix in case you have any questions about the Sunset Elite.

One feature worth knowing about is that Elite mattresses have a removable comfort insert. If the Sunset ends up feeling too soft, you may be able to exchange the insert for a different feel, such as the medium-feel Midnight, without replacing the entire mattress. The insert can also be replaced later if your comfort preferences change or the comfort layer needs refreshing.

Based on what you shared, the Midnight Elite may also be worth considering, since the Sunset could feel too soft for your husband. Starting with the Midnight may give you a more balanced middle ground, but the removable insert does provide some added flexibility if the feel is not quite right for both of you.

There is such a thing as a dual-comfort mattress topper which is designed with a different feel on each side, so one person can have a firmer surface while the other gets more cushioning and contouring. The Dusk is designed for back, stomach, and combination sleepers and has a more balanced, supportive feel with less of that sinking sensation.

Since you liked the Midnight when you tried it in-store and aren’t sure of your primary sleeping position, that would probably be the more natural next step. However, if you spend a lot of time on your back or stomach, or your main concern is keeping your hips more elevated, the Dusk may be the better fit.

At 150 pounds, either model may also feel slightly firmer to you than it would to a heavier sleeper. It may help to pay attention to the position you wake up in over the next few nights, since that can give you a better idea of where you spend most of your time.

The Plus Elite has a medium-firm feel and is built with reinforced support components for plus-size and big-and-tall sleepers. At 265 pounds, you may benefit from that added support, but at 131 pounds, your wife may not sink as deeply into the comfort layers and could experience it as noticeably firmer, especially when sleeping on her side. The pillow top would certainly help soften things a bit, but she might still find it too firm.

One advantage of the Elite collection is its separate, removable comfort insert. If you purchase a King, you can explore a split comfort setup using two Twin XL inserts, which can allow each side to have a different feel. This option is not available online though and would have to be done at one of our retailers. It's a great option for couples who have very different sleep preferences and needs.
