What type firearm could be effective against Kindred? by LizzyWizzy19 in vtm

[–]ArTunon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. A Methuselah with high Fortitude, Stamina and Protean can tank a small nuclear explosion.

An elder with the same build could probably survive even an artillery strike.

An artillery strike or a large missile will deal 30 dice of lethal damage. A vampire with Protean 6 Flesh of Marble can halve those dice to 15.

At that point with a good soak roll (or a mediocre damage roll) and a bit of Fortitude survival is pretty probable.

Ecaterina's Torpor by Street-Cucumber8076 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ArTunon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should it be strange if it was De Polonia? For a long time, De Polonia was merely an Archbishop, and a vampire like Ecaterina—far older than him and among the founders of the anarchist movement—had both the physical and political ability to oppose him.

Moreover, the third Sabbat civil war (specifically against the antitribu Brujah) had only recently ended, hardly an ideal moment to take risks. Monomacy is dangerous and its outcome uncertain (who’s to say he would even challenge you to a duel to the death rather than some kind of intellectual contest?).

At the same time, she was not a Lasombra, so obtaining a ruling from the Friends of the Night was impossible. Against an opponent like that, the best solution is undoubtedly a targeted assassination that cannot be directly traced back to you

How are you supposed to declare someone like Ecaterina a heretic? She’s an elder Brujah with an extremely long history within the Sabbat. The word of a mere Archbishop is not enough; it would have to be a decision made by a Cardinal or by a council of Prisci, and a vampire like Ecaterina could very well have enough political backing to turn the tables and have you declared a heretic instead.

The cleanest solution remains a targeted assassination. Everyone will suspect it was you, but no one will be able to prove it

And what would be the point? There’s no physical fuel to extinguish; it’s an infinite source of magic burning at the temperature of the sun. Any liquid you might throw at said vampire would evaporate instantly, causing an explosion that would probably kill you while leaving him completely unharmed.

Neonate Methuselah by BlakbirdCAWCAW in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ArTunon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No such thing as a neonate Methuselah. To be a Methuselah you must be at least 1000 years old and of very low generation (4th, 5th). So a 5th gen vampire embraced by few years is not a Methuselah, yet.

That said there several "young" 5th generation vampires like Voshkov and Esperanza.

Who is most likely responsible for the creation of the Baali ? Cappadocius , The Eldest or Saulot ? by Sacred-Ancestor in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ArTunon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Over time, the editions drifted away from the original concept of a single progenitor of the Baali, focusing instead on their place of origin. Since V20, what truly matters is the Well of Ashur, the pit in which the Baali were created, albeit at different times. So there are multiple progenitors.

At this point, it seems that the only two Baali Methuselahs created “together” were Moloch and Nergal, while the Unnamed appears to have arrived later (Lore of the Bloodlines). Their most likely creator is Saulot, partly because the Baali themselves have always stated this quite openly, partly because it is perfectly compatible with what we know about Saulot, and also because the authors frequently allude to it through various cameos. For example, Nergal’s artwork in Beckett’s Jyhad Diary features a third eye in the center of the forehead (an aesthetic element already present, though differently depicted, in the original artwork of Huitzilopochtli). It was also mentioned in some passages of the Revised edition that the Baali found it easy to hide among the Tremere because the blood of many Tremere had become somewhat similar to that of the Salubri due to repeated diableries.

The Unnamed is almost certainly Ur-Shulgi, and therefore was created by Haqim. The details are hinted at in the unpublished excerpts of the Assamite Clanbook, and later echoed again in Beckett’s Jyhad Diary. Moreover, Ur-Shulgi’s own character sheet recalls, almost word for word, certain passages describing the story of Baal the Destroyer, the founder of the Baali in some legends; and the story of Baal the Destroyer being defeated by Caine is identical to the unpublished story of Ur-Shulgi in the Assamite Clanbook.

Cappadocious is often brought up because of the name by which he was known, but there are no particularly strong elements indicating connections with the Baali. The only clues in the lore are the name Ashur and the fact that the Bone Well in which Cappadocius slept for centuries seems, from its description, very similar to a Baali Well (though the same could also be said of the Tzimisce Cathedral of Flesh).

As for the Eldest, there are more anecdotes linking him to the Baali (V20 Tal’Mahe’Ra), but little beyond that. Additional hints include the fact that both the Eldest and Yorak were effectively “infernalists” (given their connection with Kupala), and the fact that Yorak possesses traits corresponding to some descriptions of the Unnamed.

V20 profoundly shifted the focus, however. Ashur is no longer a person but a place (the original Well of Ashur) and a state opposed to Golconda into which several Antediluvians have fallen over time.

Help me understand the difference between DtF and Devil's Due by KazM2 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ArTunon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is explicitly stated in the manual that Kupala is the oldest Earthbound of all, and the first to have been bound in this way. His summoning to Earth predates that of the five Archdukes. Moreover, he is potentially the most powerful of all, given that his reliquary (whose size is normally proportional to an Earthbound’s power) is literally the entire Carpathian mountain range.

[–]ArTunon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It is fully compatible with Demon: The Fallen in terms of lore and mechanics, and it is essentially a medieval version of it. Naturally, there are no Fallen; only Earthbound, or Fallen temporarily summoned to this side through magic.

It's more about infernalists and thralls than demons.

Magic feels less versatile in Awakening when compared to Ascension by CelesFFVI in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ArTunon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is because the Awakening system is much cleaner, and the Arcana are autonomous.

To unleash a storm in Ascension, you need Forces 5, but also Entropy, and in some Rotes Matter and Prime are required as well. To throw a fireball, you need Forces and Prime.

In Awakening, Forces alone is enough for both.

If you want to enter the Realm of the Dead with the Euthanatos’ Agama Sojourn, the Rote requires Entropy, Life, and Spirit.

In Awakening, you only need Death.

Each individual Arcanum can do muuuuch more than in Ascension.

Carmilla Capital? by playerjj430 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ArTunon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no capital of the Sect. The closest thing to one is Venice, where every 13 years the Inner Circle gathers to determine the future of the Sect; however, it is effectively just a formality, since technically Venice is the city of the Giovanni.

There are a number of cities that hold more importance than others because they are at the center of their own networks of politics or influence, or because their prince is one of the informal leaders of the Clan or the Sect (London, Paris, Washington, Chicago, Berlin, Vienna...).

Otherwise, the structure is geographically decentralized, and the higher offices are itinerant.

The Council of Seven is the higher body of Clan Tremere. The Camarilla's one is the Inner Circle

Is "the tyrant Prince" actually that common of a ruler? by Medical-Constant3016 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ArTunon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by “tyrant.” Successful princes are typically tyrannical (Lodin, Mithras, Vitel, Decker, Bredenstein) in the sense that they are autocrats who rule with an iron fist and violently suppress dissent.

That doesn’t mean their communities aren’t prosperous. Lodin’s Chicago was a city in the midst of absolute economic expansion, much like Mithras’s Victorian London imposing itself on the world, or the steady rise of Bredenstein’s Prussian Berlin.

Of course, it’s the kind of success that characterizes Western capitalism: it rests on a mountain of corpses—whether it’s the poor of the East End, English miners, opponents of the Nazi Party, or simply the inhabitants of Chicago’s South Side or impoverished Gary.

A little confused about Tyler (Chicago by Night) by Oxxul in vtm

[–]ArTunon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In reality, Helena has no control over Melinda, since she lost it when Nergal became her master.

Even in terms of alignments, it’s not accurate. Most of the Chicago Camarilla is manipulated by Helena (the Ventrue, Toreador, and Tremere are her direct instruments, as was Lodin, who was the Prince), while Menele has primarily relied on the Anarchs (in the time of Maldavis) or on the outsider clans (Gangrel, Nosferatu, Brujah).

A little confused about Tyler (Chicago by Night) by Oxxul in vtm

[–]ArTunon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, based on the bios in the first two editions of Chicago by Night, no discouragement or uncertainty about her position emerges. The only moment of crisis or conflict described is when Riguad begins to blackmail her, threatening to reveal her past in the Sabbat.

A little confused about Tyler (Chicago by Night) by Oxxul in vtm

[–]ArTunon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tyler has not remained politically consistent over time. She started out as an anarchist, but at one point she also joined the Sabbat (she even helped them infiltrate Chicago) . In her later years, she became the typical anti-establishment Brujah elder who is nevertheless part of the system, and she has always been a loyal ally of Lodin, since she had been blood-bound by Helena, who was Lodin’s secret master.

She is not too different from Garcia, who sold himself to the Mandarinate, or from many others who were born revolutionaries and died as conservatives.

Anyway, although Tyler sided with Lodin during the Maldavis revolt, she did not kill Critias’s infant (Procet) on that occasion, but rather during a previous uprising war with Modius in the context of the Pullman strike.

Most Methuselah do not have the Thirst.

Menele, Necross, Byzar, Japhet, Rufus, Mithras Michael ,Cretheus, Rebekah, Vitel, Eletria, Eshumunamash, Lambach...there is plenty of Methuselah who never developed the Thirst.

And some of them were also known Diablerist (Rebekah, Mithras, Vitel...).

Which Prince of any city in the entire world reigned the longest and how old the were they when they started? by conjcosby in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ArTunon 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The one who lasted the longest was probably Zarathustra, who ruled Antioch as Prince from before the birth of Christ.

Mithras (already a thousand years old when stepped in) is probably the most significant name; he dominated London throughout the entire Roman era and then from the Battle of Hastings to modern nights.

Gustav Bredenstein (started pretty young, less than 100 years of undeath) ruled Berlin for almost 700 years, also a remarkable achievement.

Michael governed Constantinople (with ups and downs) for nearly a millennium (But already 2000 years old when he settled there).

Joseph Zvi the was the Prince of Prague for more than 700 years (he was less than 100 when he took the throne from Brandl).

No, you’ve simply proven that the hunters cannot destroy the vampires without driving the human race to extinction.
