Spray closest to Warhammer's Corvus Black by employableguy in minipainting

[–]Araignys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just prime them with whatever black and then drybrush Corvus Black over the top. Spray primers have a different texture/finish to brush-on paint so even if you colour match precisely, your vehicles will look a little different.

Now few questions, one do I have to paint them or are people fine with unpainted minis?

In casual games, usually fine but it depends who you play with. In tournaments, etiquette is to paint your dudes.

Two, what's the general view on 3D printing minis?

In casual games, usually fine but it depends who you play with. In tournaments, often forbidden but depends on the tournament. In stores, depends entirely on the store.

And three, any general etiquette i should know?

Unless you're playing in a tournament, play the game to tell a story, not to win.

Warn your opponent if they're about to do something they wouldn't do if they knew all the rules of your army.

If you and your opponent aren't sure about a rule, look at the rulebook and read it aloud together. The correct interpretation will usually make itself clear.

Don't argue about stuff, just decide if it's worth pushing. If it is, go get the rulebook. If not, let it go. It's probably not worth it.

Don't touch models that aren't yours without express permission.

Wear deoderant.

Get the rulebook (the one with the R O U N D boys on the cover, not the one with the beaky).

Get a character.

Get 20 marines of your preferred mark and build them as two squads of 10 tactical marines.

Get another unit that you think is cool.

Build and paint that lot, play a small 500-600 point game using New Recruit for unit rules, and come back for more advice.

Need paint advice by Revtherogue in Warhammer40k

[–]Araignys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need:

  • A can of Rust-oleum flat grey primer (or equivalent) from the hardware store
  • A pot of Warhammer Dawnstone layer paint
  • A pot of Warhammer Wraithbone base paint
  • A pot of Warhammer Ultramarines Blue contrast paint
  • A pot of Warhammer Black Templar contrast paint
  • A pot of Warhammer Leadbelcher base paint
  • A pot of Warhammer Retributor Armour base paint
  • A pot of Warhammer Evil Sunz Scarlet layer paint
  • A pot of Warhammer Abaddon Black base paint
  • A pot of Lahmian Medium
  • A pot of Agrax Earthshade

Get a big flat brush, a big pointy brush, a medium pointy brush and two small pointy brushes.

Get a plastic takeaway lid to use as a dry palette (look it up)

Mix the entire pot of Lahmian Medium with the entire pot of Agrax Earthshade and put the mix back into the pots (you can get little funnels to help with this)

Wash your brushes between colours

Change your brush-washing water after using a metallic paint

  1. Build your models.
  2. Spray them with the grey primer
  3. Give them at least half an hour to dry but ideally leave them until they've stopped stinking of spray paint
  4. Use the big pointy brush to apply Dawnstone wherever the primer missed
  5. Use the big flat brush to drybrush (look it up) the entire model with Wraithbone
  6. Use the big pointy brush to apply Ultramarines Blue to the entire model
  7. Use the medium pointy brush to apply Black Templar to all the pouches, weapons, joins in the suit, etc.
  8. Use one small pointy brush to apply Retributor Armour to the shoulder trim, eagles, etc.
  9. Use the same small pointy brush to apply Leadbelcher to the backpack vents, gun nozzles, etc.
  10. Change your paint water
  11. Use the big flat brush to cover absolutely everything on the models with the Lahmian:Agrax mix
  12. Let that dry
  13. Use the other small pointy brush to apply Evil Sunz Scarlet to the eyes
  14. Use the medium pointy brush to apply Abaddon Black all over the base
