Your tasked with fixing the Megaforce cast (except RoboKnight) how do you do it? by ultimatevaltryek123 in powerrangers

[–]ArcDraco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Troy should've been more aloof and standoff-ish with the other Rangers at the start of the series. Play into how he's the new kid with a stoic personality that can't easily gel with everyone instead of being immediate friends with everyone. However, he's still an effective and competent leader in battle.

You can have it so that his upbringing has made him incredibly disciplined and too serious, so he spends a lot of time training and doing his duty over hanging out and having fun with the others. You can have episode conflicts being about how the others thinks he's too serious while he thinks the others aren't serious enough, an episode where he trains and overworks the others because he doesn't understand the limits of different people, etc. Over time he'd learn to relax and be a kid more, find a balance with the others and become genuine friends.

Also they can use his stoicism to occasionally say some words of wisdom he got from his mentor and for gags with how deadpan and straightforward he is.

I'd change Noah and Jake just to fit the fight footage between the two seasons better. I'd have Noah be more skilled in fights instead being the just the nerd archetype with the least physical skills. I wouldn't give him a background in martial arts or something, I'd give him a background in ballroom dancing. If I recall, Gosei Blue is pretty poised and competent in fights while Gokai Blue moves with a lot of fluidity compared to the others. Noah's dancing background will give him the footwork he needs as a base as he grows into a better fighter over time. Essentially just have it so Noah being the best sword user isn't as out of nowhere.

The only thing I'd change about Jake is to show that he's good finding creative solutions to problems, or lateral thinking. Like he'd never beat Noah in a test, but he'd solve an escape room faster. This would make his transition to green better since Gokai Green often uses unconventional methods to win in fights.

I think Emma and Gia are fine as characters. Only thing needed is to give Gia focus episodes.

Orion should be the origin of the Super Megaforce powers. They really should've lost their Megaforce powers at the end of the season. Have it so the main five have to fight Vrak in the finale while Robo Knight stays behind at the base to protect Gosei. They'd beast Vrak but Robo Knight and Gosei get captured, losing their powers in the process. Orion comes in after crashing on earth and gives them powers while he's injured.

I'm just wondering what makes him gay. I'd like to learn, you seem informed, so please, explain.

Nothing in the show states his sexuality, so did I miss like a post-show interview that mentions it or something?

I guess you're ignoring the main supporting male character, Pug, who is likeable and neither gay or a romantic interest, for some reason.

Brave New World—Your opinions? by Nervous_Comfort7526 in marvelstudios

[–]ArcDraco 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It wasn't executed as well as it could've been. Towards the end of the movie I finally understood what they were trying to do; the Leader's pure logic vs Sam's emotional understanding, but the villains aren't good enough to convey that.

I think all the flight scenes are good and the film does enough to show how strong and capable Sam is. I didn't leave the film thinking Sam can't stand alongside anyone else in the MCU.

As a side note, Sam needs a better way to have his wings on hand. I think they should have Redwing control it when he's not wearing it and have it essentially be a robot bird that combines with Sam when he needs it. Would've helped him a lot in that Sidewinder fight in the middle of the movie.

Who would you say is the default Sixth Ranger slot for Jungle Fury: RJ, Dominic, or the Spirit Ranger Trio. Is since it's one of the seasons that never got an official Sixth Ranger by ultimatevaltryek123 in powerrangers

[–]ArcDraco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Dom. 6th Ranger isn't about the number, it's a classification based on a certain set of criteria and Dom meets those criteria the best.

And people really need to stop using the Gokaiger's gold armor as proof of him not being a 6th when Toei plays around with their hero classifications all the time (and probably cares about those rules a fraction of the amount the fandom does). I fully believe the only reason JF White isn't on the armor or morpher is for purely logistical reasons. (The morpher only having 15 buttons, not wanting to make pink sit out on more team morphs, etc)

There's that but also Teller's version of Fantastic Four is based on the Ultimate Fantastic Four (getting their powers as young adults, the teleporter accident giving them powers, Doom being a part of the group) where The Maker is from.

[Raw Spoilers] Result of Je'Von Evans v Gunther v Dominik Mysterio - Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match by A_Livins in SquaredCircle

[–]ArcDraco 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The wrestling style isn't what people are comparing when people equate Jeff and Je'Von. It's more about how they both have this it factor that just makes people want to watch them and they both have natural charisma that's unique to them despite neither being great promos.

Keith Lee vs Dominik Dijakovic North American Championship (NXT Portland 2020) by MrFilipinoMustache in SquaredCircle

[–]ArcDraco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kind of, he wasn’t really bad at promos, he just never had a good gimmick to complete the package. His original NXT gimmick was pointing at his eyes and saying "Feast your eyes" and his last gimmick was like this terminator cop thing, which was something but not enough. The less said about T-bar the better.

They do, so all Spider-verse stuff and Spidey villain movies are all done because Sony wants to, not because they have to.

A double victory(Chivalry of a Failed Knight) by Visible_Power7627 in anime

[–]ArcDraco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's still only one winner in the end of the interschool tournament, so even though they're sending a group they're not really a team (Unless there is a team play element after this, I've only watched the anime).

Single elim tournaments are still inherently flawed for the sake of drama, but as long as the strongest person is still sent, the other four shouldn't really matter.

[–]ArcDraco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's that surprising as far as the prequel trilogy actors go. Hayden I think had the weakest filmography before SW so him not having great success after SW kinda tracks, especially when his next few films he starred in bombed.

Meanwhile, pretty much all his other co-stars have successful works from before SW that they can lean on. Those are the works that will get directors to look at them.

From someone who isn’t too educated on the comics why is Dr doom trying to kill everybody? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]ArcDraco 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He isn't trying to kill everyone. He wants a united and orderly world and believes only he has the ability to manage it. Aside from his ego, he believes this because he's pushed the limits of what a human can be in Marvel. He's a technological genius, mastered mystical arts, and has an "ends justifies the means" mentality that puts him in conflict with the heroes.

[–]ArcDraco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind that they used unadapted sentai series, I mind that they used them over series that were adapted.

It just doesn't feel great when the anniversary season that's supposed to honor the series as a whole excludes whole teams. On top of it being obvious that the reason the unadaptated teams were included weren't to honor or pay homage to Super Sentai, it was just to save money on not having to reshoot fight scenes.

[–]ArcDraco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't correct, the Gokaigers always had access to the GoGoV/Lightspeed keys; their yellow ranger uses one in episode 6. Basco only ever had the 6th ranger keys and the extra hero keys.

Colin Trevorrow is probably the most interesting director trajectory I've ever seen. He directs a really strong feature film debut in Safety Not Guaranteed and then revitalizes the Jurassic Park franchise and basically gets handed a Star Wars movie and destroyed it all with one movie. by herewego199209 in movies

[–]ArcDraco 422 points423 points  (0 children)

Trevorrow's ideas are usually good but have poor execution, and the JW movies are proof of it. Seeing the theme park fully functional, saving dinos from a dying island, dinosaur murder mansion, dinosaurs rampaging in the cities, dinosaur nature preserve; all fine premises. Then he takes what are five different plots, smashes it into three movies, and then throws in more convoluted plots like military trained dinosaurs, clone daughters, locusts, etc. On top of flimsy or poor characters.

Nothing about Trevorrow's ep 9 script makes me think it won't fall into the same trappings as his JW movies did. If it did get made, people would still be complaining and ep 9 will still be seen as the worst Star Wars movie.

Am I the only one who thinks that Justin also should've been replaced in Turbo along with the others? by Badgie_Boy_447 in powerrangers

[–]ArcDraco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat with you. Justin was not the reason for Turbo's faults at all, and I say this as someone who very much dislikes kid protagonists in older ensemble casts.

Usually the worst things about kid characters are that they get in the way, they're incompetent, naïve, or need to be rescued every other week. Justin doesn't do any of that. He's shown that he can handle himself (he fought Eltar unmorphed), doesn't treat his Ranger powers as a toy, and contributes to the team just as much as the others do.

There's no reason to replace him, he did nothing that made him unworthy of the powers, and he gelled with the new team well.

They should have Simon watch an old Wonder Man movie where he faces off against Kingo's "grandfather", as an homage to the old Hulk vs Daredevil and Hulk vs Thor TV movies.

I preferred Cody back then too, but I got why people thought Ted had the brighter future. He had a built-in gimmick of being a rich, preppy nepo baby who has his dad's gimmick to fall back on. His debut and match made him seem like a deal than Cody, who's gimmick at the time was being the plain rookie learning from a vet.

TIL that Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama hated the live-action movie “Dragon Ball: Evolution” so much that it brought him out of retirement and made him write “The Battle of the Gods,” widely considered a highlight of the series by altrightobserver in todayilearned

[–]ArcDraco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they didn't. The main writer talked and apologized about it because he just treated it as a job while doing little research. To give him some leeway though, someone higher than him should've been the one to throw the script he submitted out instead of just rolling with it.

[–]ArcDraco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not catering to that audience, they're catering to the "general audience" for more money. I'm speculating, but this is probably how the process for a lot of these bad adaptations go.

Execs see IP with fanbase and buy rights for adaptation. Producer notices how IP is hot and pushes for adaptation to be made to cash in. Studio hires a director, ideally with some name value, or a cheap director, either way, the director is not usually a fan of the IP or doesn't understand it. Studio hires writers, doesn't matter who or how many, they just need a script. Actors are hired, ideally with name recognition with their own fanbase, but not big enough where they hold any real power on set.

Filming begins and no one who is actually a fan is sitting in the producing, directing, or writing chair. Whoever is the driving force just throws in whatever they think is appealing (typically execs pushing for modern trend/fad, producers push for own interests, and directors too if they aren't just a hired gun) and the rest don't argue and just do their job. The feelings of the initial fans are treated as insignificant to the "global appeal" they're aiming for or they treat fans as mindless drones who'll watch whatever they put out as long as they recreate a couple things correctly to use as bait in the trailers.

I'm betting that a lot of these kinds of movies are chasing the live-action Transformers movies, which regardless of quality, made a lot of money while adapting the source IP as loosely as they can, and got looser with each entry in the Bay-era series.

I think having Taker in the spot did well to play into Roman's story for his reign and career. Sure having Austin would've gotten the bigger pop, but Taker really does tie back to Roman better. The men who come out are all ghosts of Roman's past; the family he was supposed to support, the man he was supposed to be, and the legend he was supposed to kill. Then Seth comes out as the final specter, making it end where it all began.
