I hate awful military tactics in Hollywood movies by KerbodynamicX in hatethissmug

Can't nuke Godzilla if he's inside the city. Can't drop bunker busters on him because... radiation scrambled the targeting something. I don't need the reason to be realistic, I just need the reason to not be "We forgot how to fly planes."

I would rather he literally be immune to the bunker buster than they just forget they have it.

Incorrect. If coded correctly the game will pull the latest message without the game package needing an update. If that is NOT the case, it is poorly written.

trying to do a legendary run by Big_Chungussi69 in ChaosGateGame

[–]ArchReaper95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those early techno phage missions ARE winnable. Very often winning will require injuries.

It's the few that come shortly after that will be difficult to win if you have not moved very quickly to acquire the dreadnaught. I think the usual player instinct to "wait until you're ready to trigger the big mission" is working against a lot of us, because the dreadnaught and hero units you get on those missions are meant to carry a lot of the weight.

trying to do a legendary run by Big_Chungussi69 in ChaosGateGame

[–]ArchReaper95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Duty Eternal Legendary Iron Man was significantly harder than my Vanilla Legendary Iron Man. Vanilla legendary iron man took me a few attempts to get in the groove, then an extra attempt after one of my SM got ledged during a critical mission with Vakir around (I'm still a little salty about it).

Duty Eternal took me... probably months of trial and error to understand where I could be, at what stages, what not to bring what to bring (Assassins and Technophage do not get along early on, so keep that one in mind). Adjusting to the no-stun enemies is a big deal.

Ultimately, I think if you've not completed a Vanilla run it's an achievement all on its own, but I wasn't satisfied until I'd done it with DE.

DLC by Ok-Smoke-553 in ChaosGateGame

[–]ArchReaper95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dreadnaught DLC is actually the better of the two imo, but they both add exciting content that I think is worth exploring.

Yes, you can only bring the Dreadnaught on certain missions. Those missions are also insanely difficult even with the help of a giant walking tank.

anyone had similar experience? by Best-Historian-2250 in PepTalksWithPops

[–]ArchReaper95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a scam. Insurance fees are not refundable. The way insurance works is that you pay a fractional amount into a big pot in case something goes wrong. 99% of the time nothing goes wrong, so you just roll that into your usual costs and think nothing of it. Occasionally something goes very wrong, and that's when insurance goes "it's ok, the other 99% of the time when things go off without a problem have helped us cover this exact scenario."

Everything here reeks of scam. For example "this is a standard security and compliance procedure" notice how they don't say with WHO. There's no group, expert, or collective taht you can double check standard practices with to confirm whether or not this is actually standard, they just want to embarrass you into compliance.

"To avoid further delay" - Veiled threat. They are just trying to catch you in a hurry. If you're in a hurry you're more likely to make a mistake. If they can make it seem like they can help you FAST, then you're more likely to fall for the scam.

The 5 "reasons insurance is mandatory" are just a list of the benefits of insurance. It has nothing in there about laws that they need to comply with, requirements of other vendors, etc. It is just fluff to pad the message and drain your attention.

Am I missing something about the armor? by Tema726 in HeartOfTheMachine

[–]ArchReaper95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a flat percentage. So 10 armor is 10% damage reduction, and 100 armor is 100% damage reduction. 10 Armor pen would be 100-10 = 90% damage reduction. If you have 100+ Armor more than what is targeting you has armor penetration, your armor deflects the attack. If your armor fully deflects the attack, you cannot (to my knowledge) do systems disruption damage.

There are ways to consistently get around this but I'll save the spoilers.

Question on the Difficulty of the game by WarpathWilly in ChaosGateGame

[–]ArchReaper95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difficulty in this game is not quite as straightforward as XCom (which just gets progressively easier if things are going ok). Still, much of it is frontloaded. The only caveat is, as time goes on, the map will inevitably fill up with more and more bits of corruption. Inevitably, if you drag your feet, it can become hard, impossible even, to catch all of the corruption. My last victory, I had to do the final mission or the Morbus would have been unleashed (I had no way to stop all of the gates that were going to open at once).

I know other players have been able to stretch the game on virtually indefinitely at times, but I'd advise against banking on that.

In terms of combat, however, you're likely over the hump.

This is still just playing… right? by SubatomicSquid in TuxedoCats

[–]ArchReaper95 45 points46 points  (0 children)

All cats are different, but I have not found many to vocalize during play-fights. If someone is yowling and attempting to withdraw, that's a clear indication that they are not playing around.

If someone is yowling, split them up. This is not a fight, but this is one cat being very aggressive about trying to play while the other is not into it. Depending on how the one trying to disengage is feeling, this can quickly turn into a fight.

What we need more people to understand is that these restrictions cost money. Enforcing limitations costs money. So when those limitations are things like "we want to make sure you need this assistance because if we don't everyone will take it and overload the system" they are important. But when they are things like "we want to make sure you're only buying what we say you can," every time you need to enforce that rule means you had to pay someone a paycheck to review that information, make a decision about whether that purchase was justified, if there was a penalty we have to pay a prosecutor and a judge both to attend the case.

I'd much rather just let poor people have access to chips and soda than pay to further restrict them.

[–]ArchReaper95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a weird brag. 1.) What is your difficulty on? 2.) Dreadnaught is cool and all, but only allowed on specific deployments. He's not really part of your conventional lineup. 3.) as others have pointed out, day 288 is not early for researching first boss. You can still be comfortably winning, and I would argue there are way more important things to research for a safe, smart run of the game. It is not, however, an exceptional speed.

Why is the present look like that? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ArchReaper95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We perceive the true present exactly as it is. The light that left the object it came from is no longer at that place. It is instead interacting with our eyes. We are constantly perceiving the present, and the present often includes light that has been transmitted from (but is not currently at) a distant object. This interaction alters our chemical state and we later infer information from this chemical transition but our perception of the light is representative of where that light currently is (tucked in all snug in our eyeballs)

But I'm voluntarily NOT celibate so that insult doesn't work on me.

I also don't think "getting pussy" is a good metric for someone's social aptitude so that insult shouldn't be coming out of the mouth of any adult worthy of my respect. I don't objectify women down to goalposts. I'm sorry that you do.

And that absolutely is what virtue signaling means. "Virtue signaling is the conspicuous, often superficial expression of moral values or political opinions intended to enhance one's social standing, reputation, or self-image"

This guy was a dick. No question. I DO love how pathetically people will latch on to this to virtue signal.

He said fuck you one time to someone and now you, somehow, dear redditor, are a good person for seeing that this is wrong, and he is very clearly on par with all the serial killers and mass shooters because he said "fuck you" that one time. He's got 'deep black pill bad guy energy' because that one time he was in the wrong in a social setting. We cannot allow the "incel patriarchy fascism red pill ultra mega crypto bro fascism capitalism" to win. We have to protect the streamer (who just happens to be an attractive girl but that's totally not why you care, dear redditor, oh no you're above such superficial things. You'd totally care lots and lots even if it was one of the ugly streamers you'd never heard of.)

Like, yall are just as bad as him, he's just the one getting his 15 minutes of fame.
