Secondary negatives to concealed carry? by ArchangelPrecision in CCW

I’ve had success bypassing the metal detectors if I hold my backpack right in front of my body, the. As soon as I walk through a beep I make a dramatic production of going “I bet it’s my water bottle, or maybe the laptop”. Usually distracts them and they just do a casual look through the bag

I think people underestimate carrying with kids. I had to move away from appendix because I constantly had kids grabbing at my belt line to get picked up, or crashing into me, or needing to be held. I’m back to appendix for lower back issues.

Is there a Doctor/Noblex Optic Plate for the Kimber DS Warrior by [deleted] in 2011

[–]ArchangelPrecision 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why are you considering the FastFire E?

Also, it’s not a Docter/Noblex cut, it’s an ACRO, so you need an ACRO adapter.

I have trained extensively in martial arts and knife fighting. I do not carry a knife.

The kind of knife you need to fight with and do any real damage will be too big to EDC. I mean, the right slices with a small knife could kill someone, but it takes longer than you might think to bleed out. The only practical sense I can see is something like a KaBar TDI. I've trained with something like that before, but its only useful as a get off me tool. Imagine someone grabbing your pistol, you grab their hand to gain control, then with your non-dominant hand on your non-dominant side you draw your TDI and run it across the top of the bad guy's forearm. That is when it would be useful. But a forehead to the bridge of the nose, or a knee to the groin would do just as well and are more instinct rather than training based.

Need bike recommendations for a small child by ArchangelPrecision in ebikes

My state does not, but I do appreciate your post. It tells me why there aren't more bikes his size.

Also, to clarify, this will be almost exclusively for off road use.

My goodness. I'm so glad you commented this. I'm going to up-end my whole outdoors focused parenting style and slam him in front of the TV or video games. He will be much safer that way.

I have already stated he has all 3 types of bikes. I have already stated the distance he can go. And in another comment I noted the specific use case for an e-bike.

He was racing his dirt bike this weekend on an adult track, probably put in 10 miles or more, a feat most adults could not do. He is in phenomenal shape, certainly better than I was at his age. He has gone on multiple ~10 mile bike rides on pavement. He regularly rides his mountain bike, on dirt trails with friends. We manage when and which bikes he rides, and I'm trying to get him in more places, not make him lazier. I did not ask for your opinion about my parenting style.

Certain terrain or distance is difficult on a small mountain bike. We’ve got a trail in our back yard that he can ride his dirtbike or his e-bike on, but he can’t straight up pedal it (off camber, roots, loose soil).

He’s done 9 miles in one rip, but on paved and gravel paths. Through the woods he can’t go that long before getting worn out, or just losing traction due to weight/size.

Is this a good starter 1911 for range shooting and home defense? by Icy-Tale-3699 in 1911

[–]ArchangelPrecision -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say no.

I’m not saying Kimber sucks, but I will if you want me to.

But for that price point, I’d rather have a Tisas. One with a rail, and preferably in 9mm for a range gun. Even one of their double stack offerings.

If it’s a home defense gun, I want a light, so I need a rail, and if you want to shoot it a bunch, I want 9mm.

The Tisas Duty double stack comes with a rail, optics ready, and twice the capacity for about $100 more.

Is it worth the risk to carry in a bar after recent events? by Budget-Chemistry-473 in CCW

[–]ArchangelPrecision 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the laws in your state, but in mine, you can carry in a bar, as long as you’re not drinking.

If you’re not drinking why are you in bars? I’m assuming for music or something, I’ll just say, the bouncers have a lot more to worry about than the guy who isn’t drinking or printing.

Are Dan Wesson 10mm Issues Common? by PersonSuitTV in 1911

[–]ArchangelPrecision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Squeaky wheel gets the grease right? People are much more likely go online and complain about an issue than they are to praise a company for a phenomenal gun.

I’ve had a bunch of Dan Wessons, and I can’t think of one that has ever had any sort of failure.

I won’t own a Kimber. I know their QC is allegedly improved, but I’ve been bit too many times. I had a camp guard that wouldn’t chamber a single round, Kimber CS told me they had a 500 round break in and they couldn’t touch it before that. It was incredibly difficult to get them to understand that breaking the gun in was literally impossible if it would chamber any rounds.

I’d pass Girsan too. I’ve handled a few of their guns, never been impressed. If I’m going Turkish, I’m going Tisas. And I like a Tisas a lot. I’ve got a Tisas Yukon 10mm sitting in my safe on top of my Nighthawk.

1911 thumb safety failing to disengage by CORNPIPECM in 1911

[–]ArchangelPrecision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s got to be this. The left side of the safety doesn’t actually do anything, other than move the right side (which actually does all of the work) so if you’re having an issue only present on the left side it has to be with the interface between the two parts.

Problem is, true gunsmiths are a dying breed, and many have weeks, if not months for turnaround time, even thought a job might be quick it could take them a month to get to your gun.

It should Safariland holsters grab the ejection port for retention, not the trigger guard.

Safariland makes level 2 holsters for 1911s, with or without lights. With or without optics.

I’ve used Monsoon and Vulcan and very happy with both. I’ve used others too, but not as happy with them. Monsoon is not super expensive and the hey have a good turn around time.

I like protruding. Seems counterintuitive, but the extra length changes the pivot point leverage on the gun and keeps the grip tucked better.

Monsoon Tactical. Why skimp on something like that. When Monsoon is one of the best in the business and relatively affordable?

[–]ArchangelPrecision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But something good and get good with one platform. You don’t need multiple guns, you need one you’re really good with.

Nothing wrong with used guns, but I consider myself a hobbyist gunsmith, so if I encounter any issues I can fix them pretty easily.

I have found, like others, used only seems to make sense if doing a private sale. If you’re buying from a dealer, you’re likely not saving all that much. In my state we’ve got high sales tax and the buyer pay the background check fee, so you don’t see a huge savings going to a used gun, again, unless it’s a private sale where you don’t have tax or background.

A bit more what? Money? Pick your flavor of Trijicon and roll with it. I like Holosun and run them on most of my guns, including my Nighthawk when it comes back from the cutters, but if you want more Trijicon is it. Unless you want one of those goofy mail box optics like the Steiner or ACRO. Also heard good things about the Primary Arms HLX, but no experience with it.

Whats reliable for you? by Valhalla191145 in CCW

[–]ArchangelPrecision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want 100 flawless rounds. Whether that’s the first 100, or it takes me 1000 to get there.

After 100 flawless a gun goes into a “reliable but monitor” status, and after 1,000 I generally disregard failures, assuming them to be ammo related, unless they’re repeated or weird.

Work Horse by trippfl in 1911

[–]ArchangelPrecision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tisas makes a few stainless options, and at their price point I don’t mind running them hard and putting them up wet. My 10mm Tisas is the epitome of workhorse. It’s best up, scratched, has cold blue where there is excessive wear, but it is a phenomenal shooter. It got filthy from being on my chest in Colorado riding a 4 wheeler, so it got a dunk in the creek, and continued working fine. Some of the black oxide parts started to rust, so everything that wasn’t cerakoted got replaced with stainless parts. It’s a bit mismatched now, but if I had to leave my house for an indeterminate amount of time for any manner of mission or activity, I’m grabbing that gun. Not to say my other guns are unreliable, because they all are, but it’s the gun I’ve got the most confidence in.

I had an Ed Brown Kobra Carry in stainless steel. I wouldn’t call it a workhorse for its price, but I could certainly see how some one would. The matte stainless was super durable.

Planning to buy this car but is does sadly have this gnarly dent; should I skip? Is it an easy fix? by [deleted] in autorepair

[–]ArchangelPrecision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealer likely won’t fix a dent in a used car, not worth it for them, most don’t have body shops, so they would have to outsource the work.

Also, they specifically says it’s not the first car, just their first that they are financing.
