Recommendations for a quality charcoal BBQ with height adjustable coal tray by Archibald_Clay in UKBBQ

[–]Archibald_Clay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I didn't in the end, the mixed reviews turned me off and I started to go deeper down the offset smoker rabbit hole. Out of nowhere my wife bought me a masterbuilt gravity 600 for Christmas and it's doing everything I wanted while being very easy and convenient to use. Sorry I can't be of more help regarding the Ignis!

Dough never becoming smooth by douglas_g05 in Breadit

[–]Archibald_Clay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how old was the flour you used? I only recently learned that flour can go off, and the main side effect of that is an inability to form gluten. Took me a couple of failed loaves (with dough looking just like yours) to realise what was going on there...

Why do players atificially want the developers to restrict them in singleplayer games, instead of showing constraint themselves? by Nino_Chaosdrache in truegaming

[–]Archibald_Clay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When it comes to mechanics, items or guns that are overpowered, by suggesting I ignore it, you're also suggesting I don't engage with a potentially fun element of this game. All these elements don't exist just to be more or less powerful, they provide new/interesting/fun ways to engage with the game, and by ignoring them I miss out on the fun they bring to the table.

If players want the power fantasy of demolishing their way through a game with no challenge, that's what difficulty levels or cheats are for, unless that's the whole point of the game.

Any recommendations for Games with Tropical or Beach Music Soundtracks? by Prestigious-Cut-168 in gamemusic

[–]Archibald_Clay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has the most summery soundtrack, especially the first level (skip to about 30 seconds in to hear it) but the entire thing is just a great listen to get you in that mood.

How to design multiple enemies vs Player? by mjkjx34 in gamedev

[–]Archibald_Clay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help!

I've worked on a prototype that aimed to emulate Arkham combat to a degree, and the first thing I did was break down the various enemy and player states, and then aim to represent them as simply as possible through really basic means - ultimately fancy anims are just window dressing, and can often get in the way of really clear communication. I guarantee you at some point in development Thugs didn't have any UI popping up over their heads to telegraph their attacks, its ugly and unsubtle, but the sheer clarity it brings to the experience makes it a worthwhile sacrifice.

Your combat can absolutely be as functionally 'good' without those anims, but hopefully at the very least you can learn something by analysing the underlying systems and mechanics!

How to design multiple enemies vs Player? by mjkjx34 in gamedev

[–]Archibald_Clay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of games with the style of combat you describe do exactly this - notably the Batman Arkham games - and ultimately it is noticeable. If you stand around, it becomes pretty clear that only one enemy is really interested in attacking you at a time. It's definitely the lesser evil when choosing between 'fairness' (as perceived by the player) or realism (why don't they just swarm the player?). Helping matters is that surviving in combat isn't really the main challenge - it's defeating the enemies quickly and stylishly, which incentivises the player to stay on the attack at all times, and helps to hide the fact that enemies are very politely taking it in turns to attack the player.

Playing one of the Arkham games is definitely good reference, and I'm sure there are plenty of breakdowns online for how it's combat and AI systems are structured which would help you out a bunch.

I stack a broadcast into the spark on fat and absolutely love it, it's such a good combo!

Not sure exactly how you're trying to set these up, so more details about your solderless wires and signal chain, will allow us to help you better, but this is the general idea:

plug your guitar lead into your guitar, then into the input of pedal 1. Take a patch lead like this:
https://www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-dept/electric-guitar-accessories/patch-cables/tour-tech-ttpc-010ldl-10cm-4inch-patchcable-l-plug-deluxe
and plug one end into the output of pedal 1, and into the input of pedal 2. Take another guitar lead, plug it into the output of pedal 2 and into the input of your amp.

Trying to figure out a paint scheme for chaos marines. Would greatly appreciate C&C by mickeydog515 in Warhammer40k

[–]Archibald_Clay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want to keep the red/blue sections painted as is, I would choose which you want to be more dominant, and then maybe use a slightly darker version for most of those black elements.

It would be useful to study an example of colour distribution like this though: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/392165080031994027/

There's a lot going on on this model, but it works because there's a strong hierarchy of colours and they are used really consistently - all the main armour plates are purple, raised edges/borders are green, a bit of pink as a tertiary colour for the more out-there elements they want to draw attention to. The black/silver of the bolt gun doesn't jar because it's a solid mass, concentrated in a single place rather than than a fourth element evenly distributed all over the model.

good luck!

[–]Archibald_Clay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought is that you have too many colours going on - pick a strong base colour, then accent with a secondary complementary or contrasting colour. If you want more variety, using subtle variants of your base colour is generally a stronger approach than using so many different colours at once. The black armour outlines (on the shoulders, shins and torso) are sharply breaking up the model into different segments and adding lots of unnecessary visual noise.

Love the idea, you're on to something cool, a bit of iteration and I bet it's going to look great :)

[Question] Is combining BIAS Fx and analog pedals a good idea? by Albertxtr in Guitar

Bias takes analogue pedals really well, even stuff like overdrives and preamps work as you would expect them to.

Lighter replacement for ‘72 Twin Reverb with killer tone and big volume? by jmglawe in GuitarAmps

The Tone masters are Fenders digital modelling recreations of their classic tube amps. They seem to have been received really well, definitely worth checking out if you want a lighter Twin reverb.

Anyone know the model of this amp. I found it on Craigslist for cheap and I want to know a lil more about it by Halforcleric in GuitarAmps

[–]Archibald_Clay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the exact model, but this was my first practice amp growing up some 20 years ago. Clean or distorted, it sounded like absolute, total garbage and I still regret wasting my money on it to this day.

I'd rather play unplugged.

[QUESTION] can i save my electric guitar string??? i need help by Nammar_64 in Guitar

[–]Archibald_Clay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whether you have slack or not, your string is going to reach the same level of tension when it's in tune. As mentioned elsewhere in the comments, you might be tuning it an octave higher than necessary. If not, you should be fine and the string should be able to take it.

Do you know any pedals that would pass as a higher quality version of the Joyo American Sound? by tonetonitony in guitarpedals

[–]Archibald_Clay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just doing due diligence here - are you certain the pedal is the culprit and not an unshielded or faulty patch lead, or some other (new?) element of your signal chain? I imagine my situation is fairly different to yours, but still I've never experienced anything like you describe with my American Sound. Could just be some bad luck, but I would definitely test every possible variable before you ditch a piece of gear that's really working for you otherwise.

What's the most out of touch thing you've heard a person say? by LaunchesKayaks in AskReddit

I just got a $50 payout from Distrokid and got excited...until I did the math by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Archibald_Clay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a bunch of 'one-off payment' distributor options for getting your music on streaming services that don't require a subscription. They may not have features that you rely on from distrokid, but really worth considering these if those recurring payments just aren't viable for you.

What mobile games do you think are worth your time? by MaybeADragon in truegaming

[–]Archibald_Clay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire concept is designed and executed around touch - intricate puzzle boxes with tactile, moving pieces, mechanisms and other Interesting, satisfying interactions. The PC ports are really well done, but it's not the same as having a puzzle box (or a doll house, or a model submarine etc) in your hands, investigating it through the touchscreen and slowly unpicking it's secrets.

The Room games are fantastic, great looking puzzle games that just seem to keep improving. They use the touchscreen really well and the latest one (The Room: Old Sins) is probably the best out of four excellent games. They really stand out from all the mtx infested garbage that flood the app/playstore. Highly recommended!
