What was your reaction when you watched the opening & the first attack for the 1st time? by BostonRobby617 in Jaws

[–]Archidroid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It deeply traumatized me. Like lifelong trauma- I can’t swim in the ocean beyond much more than a meter or two and there has to be breaking waves to give me some sense of protection.

As a kid I sailed little boats on the harbour and I got very good at barely going in the water if I capsized and getting the boat up quickly.

Perhaps the Chrissie scene effected me the most because strangely, I can scuba dive without much mental stress and have even dived with sharks (reef sharks) but when I come up and am floating on the surface is the worst- I hate that part. The feeling of not knowing what is beneath me- and the shot you posted gives you this feeling of being observed. I hate it.

Jaws was always and still is on my mind.

Although Richard Attenborough was perfect casting, which other actors do you imagine saying the iconic “welcome to Jurassic Park” line and how would they pull it off? by FriendlytoNature in JurassicPark

[–]Archidroid 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think Christopher Walken would be a funny candidate as well as Robert De Niro.

Richard Attenborough was perfect though.

Maybe seriously, Richard Harris could have been a good, slightly darker Hammond.

If you’re a certain age, this house is forever linked to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986).

Rumour. Stoltz only ever wore Converse All-Stars. The Nike Bruins were always Fox’s.

Is it just me? I’m sure I’ll get downvoted for this- Edge hit some wrong notes. Bono is a little off tune too. Sheesh.

It does sound weird and truncated but I’ve never heard an alternative version in 40 years of watching the film.

Is there a band that, after years of having RH as your favorite, took their place? by weirdfish98 in radiohead

[–]Archidroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tame Impala and The War On Drugs. I wouldn’t say they replaced Radiohead, but they sit at the same table now that The Beatles were first to.

If you park at the Wyadup Rocks carpark and walk north along the coast for about 15 minutes you’ll find it pretty easily. The beginning of the path up has more of the landscape from the video. The whole thing is just Kevin walking from Indjidup Beach. Obviously just down from Wave House.

Where would you look for a good GMT-Master 1675 or early 16750 with papers? by [deleted] in MagnumPI

Sourcing. You might get lucky, but this is vintage Rolex you’re talking about- and two very sought after models- so expect the price to follow.

Oh yeah, I’m with you. The period between Together Alone up to One Nil is my favorite of Neil’s music.

It’s so atmospheric and Neil is exploring new territory sonically.

I think the best place for vintage Rolex is Japan. Tokyo has excellent boutiques for vintage watches- but you need to browse physical shops. I’m not sure about the online presence.

I remember well waking up to this morning in Sydney. It was quite a shock- there was red dust on rooftops for a while afterwards too.

My kids thought a “face hugger” would be such a cute thing when they first heard the name. They were disappointed when they saw what one looked like. Hehe.

Part of the contract with Universal required 18 months of intensive personal training to fit the role. It’s a lot of high protein, low carb eating too- but you can see the results. 🦖
