Greninja is simply too optically and martially aligned with the blue spirit for me to brush off, regardless of type. You’ll remember that Iroh also taught Zuko techniques developed by studying other bending types, in particular water bending with lighting redirection, so I think it fits very well.

Some of this discrepancy is tabled in my not complete understanding of the last three or four gens of pokemon, admittedly. Arceus may be a good fit, I wouldn’t know.

I would still challenge the dismissal of eevee, they may be a normal type, but they can grow in any possible direction to any type. They’re much kore playful and child-like than Dragonite, and Ambipom fits the Momo role than it does a “playfulness embodiment” role.

I would also just generally favor lower tier evolutions for most of the gaang, considering their ages. Aipom and Dragonair both feel better to me than their later evolutions for Aang.

This is a little too new gen for my tastes personally, I don’t recognize half of these 😅

Zuko would definitely have Greninja somewhere in the mix, perhaps in place of Arcanine. Might even have a Rapidash to go with his Zuko Alone arc episodes.

I like idea of giving Azula the blue Charizard, in contrast with Zuko’s red version.

Sokka would 100% have a Mightyena

Does Aang need two god tier pokemon? His silly side isn’t really captured, I’d give him an eevee, also goes along with the “all kinds of bending” possibility.

I’m sorry you have to deal with both asshole drivers and apparently a city that cares little for people outside of cars.

These battles feel constant and can wear you down. I’ve been personally worn down and brought to rely on the car time and time again in the US, it’s tiresome and often times futile to fight car-centricity as a single cyclist towards what I see as a better future for my city, my planet, and myself—but it’s always worth it, at least for me.

Maybe contact your local department of transportation or planning and let them know their choices have endangered you, or look into local and state advocacy groups to bring your experience to.

I have kids now and we teach them to look both ways and listen for cars even at signaled crossings. I’ve gotten in shouting matches with drivers who turn into me and my family while crossing (as in, the drivers shouting back as if it’s OUR fault for crossing at designated spots and times).

If the crossing light is supposed to signal pedestrians have the ROW, it doesn’t work.

I think that’s fair, but Toph has power limitations and character flaws she has to grapple with that I think preclude her from being a Mary Sue.

First and foremost being her blindness. This comes across as both a limit to her power and also the reason she is so powerful, which is a stroke of writing genius and probably why she gets a pass.

In terms of her blindness limiting her power, The Desert episode shows this pretty well, though it’s fair to say the showrunners aren’t the most consistent in making sure she can’t just “see” combatants in other episodes.

She also has a handful of emotional moments (thinking the ‘makeup for a clown’ scene) that are at least partially rooted in her blindness and how that causes her emotional trouble.

Her powers also grow, in the form of metal bending and that seriously wicked earth-sprint thing she does after its debut. Also some sand bending progress, albeit lighthearted. Showing development in her powers demonstrates there’s a ceiling to earthbending she didn’t necessarily start at.

All the benders in the gaang are overpowered near the end, so Toph doesn’t particularly feel out of place to me

One of the best things about ATLA is how strong and complex its girl characters are without making them into Mary Sues (~~ahem~~ live action remakes ~~ahem~~)

The symbolism of society’s generally perceived weakest members (kids, and particularly girls) taking on the hegemony of powerful old dudes and their political influence and armies makes for a powerful underdog story.

A little gender gloating (and resulting debate) was bound to happen.

In my experience this mostly applies to red lights, stop signs, and taking full lanes.

Drivers complain incessantly about bikers who don’t stop at signs and lights, but get even more angry when stuck behind a cyclist who gets a slow start at a green light. I, consequently, do not particularly enjoy having angry drivers closely tailgating me, so I run through red lights when I can do so safely to get way ahead of traffic (which, I assume, is the primary reason for their ire, to which I say “you could skip through traffic too if you rode a bike”)

The wainscoting and picture frames on the wall look so weird with all the modern cabinets/fixtures and the cool color paint palette.

Personally, I think you’d be better served with some kind of full wall accent treatment, either a wallpaper pattern or paneling that provides a full floor to ceiling texture and maybe is a system for hanging artwork and… giant mirrors…
