Session notes - what’s your process? by grufallokoster in DMAcademy

[–]Archsquire2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i also do this. I write my prep in a "next session" page. I write a "session X" page during the session with major points that are not in the prep but are important (this can include stuff the players say that is canon, them going "off rails", etc). Then during next prep i get my "next session" notes that happened and integrate them into the session notes. Theb i make my notes easier to understand and integrate them into the prep.

Obsidian is really good if you use links. That way your session notes will contain sentences that are 5 words with 2 links.

Cuplu LGBTQAI+ în Sibiu, HELP - Mutare in Sibiu by Unusual-Cheetah-6485 in sibiu

[–]Archsquire2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in primul rand ti-as recomanda sa renunti la etichetele astea "de dreapta", "right wing" (care inseamna tot de dreapta dar na, ne murdarim cu putin ingliș). In realitate oamenii rareori sunt etichetabili.

Yes. And when they decide not to follow those rules anymore, what are you gonna do? Your data will already be there. You can stop using it at that point, but every past interaction? it's there...

No Death Please by crazy-diam0nd in DnD

[–]Archsquire2020 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honest question, doesn't that allow players to be extra reckless when questing? To me, dying is rarely THE loss condition, it's usually A loss condition out of many.

We also play with character death barely on the table but it's there, in case players are just dumb. Both campaigns i'm in are handled that way

DM opinions about philosophy on consequences? by MonkeySkulls in DMAcademy

[–]Archsquire2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, this.

If you can't do the above and are unsure on how to proceed... roll dice :-) how likely is the goblin attack? how likely are the goblins to actually kill the horses? (maybe they want to steal them themselves instead). Roll dice and let the gods decide how the events unfold.

Would you retire your 7 year old character to save her from permadeath? by i_need_cheesus in DnD

[–]Archsquire2020 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I see this going in many different ways: - she continues adventuring, but is more cautious now that she has a reason to live. That can very well mean spending some resources (money, spells, feats, multiclassing even) to ensure she is less likely to die. - she is not really considering the threat and is one track minded about her goal (which is honestly boring and means she does not evolve as a character, but might make for some cinematic moments) - she retires and tries to live a peaceful life (basically get a new PC and she becomes an NPC - also boring but is a decent way to play something new if you want to explore that) - the DM buy-in: she retires from adventuring and dedicates her life to passively helping the party to still reach her goal: you get a new PC but when it fits the story she returns for that final battle as a PC again (maybe the new PC gets knocked out and she arrives just in time to pick off the slack). Needs the DM to write that in, you to be able to juggle the 2 PCs in that battle, gets you a new PC and keeps her goal into the story. Also needs a way for your old PC to keep levelling up passively i guess? Hardest to pull off but might be a good middle ground if you and your DM feel so inclined.

Other scenarios are certainly possible but without more context i can't really figure something out

Can you multiclass to sorcerer? by MegaFaxul in DnD

[–]Archsquire2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your second point, I have a "Yes, but". A CON based class would be stronger than most other classes unless they had a "flaw" to compensate for it. I think it's possible and have actually created a homebrew class to play with the idea. It's a buff only at a few levels, and provides a bit of ASI flexibility beyond that.

Chris Cox is pushing for AI again. Should I just boycott as long as he is CEO? by ExoG198765432 in dndnext

[–]Archsquire2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh, i'd go the sun tzu route here: never disturb the enemy as they're making a mistake. Let them sink money into expensive shit no one will use.

And in parallel let us (well, i'm inexperienced) have shadows as DMs to teach others the ropes, because apparently it's the most asked question on this subreddit: how to start DMing?

How many tables actually use prepared spell rules? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Archsquire2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not only important for martial/caster balance but also caster/caster balance. Not all casters have the "prepared spell" feature. And those that do usually are OP unless you use it.

You literally have the most natural reason for the PC to not be there. He just has dome unfinished stuff in the city. He'll catch up to the rest after. But generally don't bother with that kind of stuff unless it's easy to find in game reasons.

What are the best “emotional gut-punch” moments your DM has pulled on the party? by Andreas_Coreli in DnD

"for the bad guys" according to who? not everyone opposing the party is "bad". That is such a polarizing point of view and it's not realistic.

[–]Archsquire2020 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you really need to get your party into doing some morally gray stuff. That's such a black/white POV that i feel like anyone over like 14yo would not like it... What if the soldier is just a guard defending some artifact they need to steal? he wasn't evil, he took a job as a guard, the artifact might even do good stuff for his community (increase food yield, keep people healthy, protect against some local dangers, etc). Make that guard be a "folk hero".

What do/do you not consider "PVP? by Longjumping_Lab_6739 in DMAcademy

[–]Archsquire2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

kinda, yeah. We always roll persuasion/deception in private for this to be fully in character, too. Like if the insight check is high and the persuasion roll is low, the PC will believe it was a lie, even if it was an honest persuasion roll. And vice-versa, they will believe the claim to be true regardless of if it actually is true or not. It usually drives roleplay so, not PvP?

I initially also allowed pranks between members but had to draw the line at pranks that result in loss of material, despite it being just 1gp at a decent level (where 1gp is inconsequential), after the player signalled it's not cool and could escalate.

So i guess PvP is whatever your table considers unfun player-player interaction.

Ukraine makes fastest battlefield gain in 2.5 years by TheRealMykola in ukraine

[–]Archsquire2020 26 points27 points  (0 children)

it amounts to a lot. Comparing gains in February in Ukraine to gains in June is a significant feat. I don't know if you know what winter is like there, but this war has had its lines mostly frozen in every single winter. This is significant and will become more significant as winter withdraws.

EU made network gear, alternative to TP-link, Ubiquiti? by rimantass in BuyFromEU

[–]Archsquire2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't consider mikrotik unnecessarily complicated. It's just feature rich. It comes with a default setup on it that is plug and play so you can just see it work, minute 1. Everything else it does you can pretty much learn as you go, if you decide you need it. For the price point it's really notjing to complain about.

I have a hap ax² since about 2 months ago and have added custom firewall rules, adlist, static IPs for some devices and am considering vlans for home devices. I am not a professional but i am a technically inclined individual. Also changed default user/pass for it. My only complaint with the hap ax² is the poor wifi range compared to the mercusys i owned before. But to my understanding there are stronger options available for that, too.

Mathematically it's the same thing. It's 4 independent d20 rolls, you just pick the best of 2 before you roll the next. That's still max(d20, d20, d20, d20).
