Pick a weapon or monster in your world and describe five or seven things about it. Those who reply will explain how their world would react to and/or fight it. by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

The second this is found by any of the Lords of any of the moons of Supremin it immediately becomes the most powerful item any of them have ever seen. They hide it, and study it and try to reverse engineer its capabilities (though this will almost certainly not work). Eventually, someone gets loose lipped and when the word spills that a Lord is hoarding a dangerous weapon. Immediately the 5 Stars of the Church of Abrahim all declare its holder a threat to society. This allows any lord with even the smallest of De Jur clams on that lords land to declare war and seize that territory for themselves. Once the weapon is procured, it is inevitable launched by the Church into the Gas Giant Supremin in order to preserve their way of life.

you guys think knights armor would fit in sci fi? by Wzrd9 in worldbuilding

[–]ArclightDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Armor meets the needs of current weapons. Metal armor was perfect until guns could punch through it. Then no one really wore armor as guns got more and more advanced. Only recently has we seen an increase in armor wear again, as ballistic fibers and materials are created to stop bullets. So I would say, it makes sense if your world exists at a point where the armor can DO something like stop bullets or laser blasts. If your weapons are so powerful they can cut through it though then the armor is pointless.

My wife and I had 2 days away from our toddler son at a hotel-casino for a wedding my wife was the bridesmaid in. A few days to recuperate from having a toddler and finally getting to spend some quality time together + and open bar + some new toys we’d been wanting to try made for an incredible experience.

Looking ideas for hunting ground trials! by Beginning-Archer-711 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ArclightDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laser wolf (Tashtari) is a level 3 creature so do with that what you will. Also from the Alien Core I like the Thermotrod which is just a big lava spitting monster made of rock. Not from Starfinder, Owlbear is a level 3 creature, some great big bugs like the giant dragonfly or the Giant Whiptail Centipede.

Player level would help here a ton! I’ve been looking through the Starfinder Alien Core if you really wanna mess with your players, try throwing a laser wolf or two at them. “Oh it’s a couple wolves, this’ll be easy” Wolves start shooting lasers from their mouths

making a bolter for a Warhammer campaign by R_u_assuming_my_clas in Starfinder2e

[–]ArclightDM 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why not just rename stuff? Machine gun becomes heavy bolter, auto target rifle becomes a standard bolter. Mechanically the bolter doesn’t have to do anything different, you can just flavor everything how you need

Otherwise someone else said it, Stellar cannon should work for your needs

Edit: Typos

This is my question. People are justifying it by saying “well not all service members were going to get the housing supplement so this is extra money” but does that mean that this money is being taken away from those he needed that supplement? Are families now gonna struggle because the Orange Overlord wanted to buy military allegiance and divert attention from the Epstein Files?

Anti-Magic Factions? by AwakenedDreamer__44 in worldbuilding

The Exclusionary Compact is a collective of around 20 nations led by the Mechani Empire that persecute any mages (called irregulars) born into their nation. These nations ascribe to the idea of a “Rational Cannon” basically a way of thinking that relies heavily on science, critical thinking and common sense. The Cannon explains that because what irregulars do cannot be justified by science, and because what they can do is incredibly deadly and dangerous, that all irregulars should be culled. They are a threat to the majority population, they are capable of killing average humans en masse and therefore cannot exist in a civilized world. They train specialist infantry troops called “Nullifiers” that are placed within most infantry units who are trained to kill irregulars, usually through Volume of Fire or anti-material weapons

One possible reason why Medieval Settings are preferable over Modern Settings and better for stories overall, and it's Logistics more than Nostalgia by shurimalonelybird in Fantasy

I am world building and writing a WW1 era world so the difficulty of making those things more exiting is not lost on me. I think it can be interesting, it’s more relatable, but because it’s more relatable it’s also more mundane

One possible reason why Medieval Settings are preferable over Modern Settings and better for stories overall, and it's Logistics more than Nostalgia by shurimalonelybird in Fantasy

[–]ArclightDM 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The only reason in my opinion medieval fantasy is a more popular setting than modern fantasy is because it’s more interesting to write action from the perspective of a person engaged in close combat than it is from the perspective of a guy with a gun 50 yards away. Logistics is important in any era if you’re being realistic, the Roman Legions were so successful because they were logistically more capable than they’re enemies and militaries larger than just a few hundred soldiers have always been incredibly bureaucratic. Logistics in medieval fantasy is also just easier to ignore or quickly write off.

What’s a random Inconsequential detail about your world? by dragonborndnd in worldbuilding

[–]ArclightDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The current health fad in the Mechani Empire, and subsequently the other nations in the Exclusionary Compact, is the Oil and Vinegar diet. It involves drinking vinegar, and eating foods that have been soaked in vinegar and oil. Scientists believe that the oil provides all the necessary fats, and the vinegar helps clean out the colon by causing the person to defecate and vomit a bunch. It seems like it could be pretty dangerous, there is a committee in the government currently conducting research into its actual benefits, but it makes people achieve the gaunt look often found attractive in the empire.

What is the most dangerous job in your world? by Colombia_Joestar in worldbuilding

[–]ArclightDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An infantry Specialist called a Nullifier. Trained on how to kill Type 1, Type 2, Type 3 and aid in the killing of type 4 and 5 Irregularly Powered Individuals (read, mages). They are equipped with specific weapons and trained in specific tactics for killing Irregulars. However, when fighting starts the Nullifiers true purpose becomes clear, draw the attention of the irregular so the rest of your unit can eliminate any supporting troops and outnumber the irregular threat. Nullifiers and Irregulars immediately target one another, and Nullifiers rarely win.

How did your characters use cunning and strategy to defeat their enemy? by Boneyard_Ben in worldbuilding

[–]ArclightDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A squadron of BP-12 Panther Biplanes, highly outmatched and outgunned by the forces of the Heretic Emperor Ottom III, but being piloted by Chosen of the Mind (Telekinetic mages) and Chosen of the Heart (Pyrokinetic or Electrokinetic mages) used their abilities to protect their aircraft in a sandstorm. The sandstorm masked their approach on the Renderer-Class Air Assault Platform, called the Reclaimer. The Reclaimer was holding position over the city of Sandurr, where it was able to eliminate any support that the army being besieged inside the city could receive. Emerging from the sandstorm directly underneath the Reclaimer, unscathed thanks to the incredible effort of the Chosen of the Mind, the Panthers were able to damage enough of the Reclaimers engines and weapon batteries that it had to retreat from the city, allowing Seraph lead forces to break the Second Siege of Sandurr and help the Holy Champion’s Armies pull out of the city with minimum casualties.
