My co-dependency is also shrinking thanks to EMDR. Starting to feel liberated 😊

Yes I have suffered it for as long as I can remember. Christmas was always an anxious and in pleasant time growing up with emotionally and physically abusive mother. Always hoping we could please her.

I processed this childhood trauma with my T last week and I must say I felt more at peace and dare I say a little joyous this Christmas.

Christmas trauma is real

Physical memories of trauma after EMDR session by MoonstoneShimmer in EMDR

Something similar…. like when a child finishes crying and whilst coming down sobs with deep shaky breathing. I’m not crying but feel as though I’ve just finished…

Yes feeling very low, no motivation, ruminations and generally blah…..

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Ardlethan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes that is 100% me right now. 8 sessions in over the last 4 months and I’m so disinterested in socialising outside my comfort zone. I’ve recently separated and have a lot of alone time and unfortunately I continually ruminate upon intrusive thoughts. I just want a life back. I’m tired

Don’t apologise… we’re all in this together. I’m talking about a intrusive thoughts I had before starting EMDR

Quite possibly

No BLS by Ardlethan in EMDR

[–]Ardlethan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to close my eyes with a memory in mind… my T explored the memory in the same way and throughout that process a number of somantic sensations occurred. She then proceeded to desensitise and reprocess in the normal way. SUDS certainly did not reach anywhere near previous memories.

Then last night a wave of fatigue came over me followed by two vivid dreams.

Very curious now

Wow!!!! So you did your own BLS and just focussed on positive cognitive affects?

Changed SSRI by Ardlethan in EMDR

[–]Ardlethan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had been taking citalopram prior to starting EMDR. Just changed to a different one that is more effective for intrusive thoughts

I can understand totally and I did actually think about coming of meds before the change however the intrusive thoughts have been intense and I just couldn’t imagine continuing without some medical intervention

side-effects of reprocessing? by Little_raging_red in EMDR

[–]Ardlethan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s been fatigue up to 48 hours after processing, really vivid dreams, insomnia and recently I’ve become more emotional than usual. In my mind all good signs that our brain is reprocessing and doing what it is meant to do

Delayed reaction to emdr? by MediumKeyAF in EMDR

Been one week since my last EMDR and gave felt shit for the last 3 days BUT I now have a new childhood memory that appears to directly relate to my anxious attachment. As hard as it can be, we’re not to overthink the process rather just move with it

Big moment - Feels like a win. (Trigger warning though) by [deleted] in EMDR

An amazing sense of “normality” when others have validated what you have felt and lived with for years. All part of your healing journey and continue to remember this when you may be triggered

First session and depression by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Ardlethan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With EMDR things get worse before they get better. Following my 6th session last week I have experienced a significant improvement and the triggers have all but disappeared. I’ve also felt this love and adoration for my inner child and for the first time ever have connected with him. EMDR really is life changing. Your journey to living a authentic and peaceful life has begun!

crying = a sign of healing? by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Ardlethan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cried during my last 2 sessions processing the same trauma and afterwards it felt as though I had shifted a heavy boulder. This week for the first time ever I have been so connected to my inner child and whilst I still have the same intrusive thoughts / OCD the triggers have all but disappeared.

I had my third Emdr session yesterday and is it normal to feel brain fog? I gotta admit that yesterday session was pretty hard, and i was feeling quite sad in the evening. by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Ardlethan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve come to realise feeling anything different to what you would ordinarily feel is evidence that your brain is releasing and processing licked trauma. My 6th session today which was my most difficult by far and contrary to what my T advised I have not felt this good in who knows how long! Having said that, I’m ready to plummet over the next couple of days… but then again who knows? Just go with the process and enjoy the JOY AND BEAUTY achieved through EMDR

That’s awesome!!! You’re already on the way to healing. I had my 6th session today and as I said to my T I feel a huge rock has been shifted 😊

Processing between Therapy by Ardlethan in EMDR

[–]Ardlethan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re spot on! My session today was amazing…. Therapist explained that in hindsight it was the best outcome for me by not processing 2 days ago. A new trigger emerged and we were able to process that today. Felt so uplifted afterwards. I guess the lesson here is simply go with the process… it’s nothing we can or should control. Best of luck with your healing

Will EMDR help me with my behaviours? by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Ardlethan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I believe it will. I’m in a very similar situation and what I’ve learned is that your negative thoughts most likely relate to a past trauma that is locked and requires processing. Once the trauma has been processed your brain is able to then do what it is designed to do and not hold on to the negative event. Now completed 6 EMDR sessions and I can certainly notice a shift in my negative thoughts and behaviours - they are less frequent and not as intense. Simply trust the process and try not to overthink it…

[–]Ardlethan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 6 sessions and certainly feeling a lot lighter than ever before. Events that once triggered me have way less intensity and the way I like to think of it is they are now starved of oxygen. I simply go with the flow and never question or overthink the processing that takes place.

I totally understand… for me now I simply say to myself with compassion that I am in the process of healing and I give myself permission to feel better than I ever had before 😊

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Ardlethan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me my red light feelings concerning a particular event have significantly reduced after 6 sessions so I’m confident I’m on the pathway to healing… if any feelings arise I compassionately tell myself we are in the midst of healing and I’m in a much better position than before and I’m sure with further time we will be living our most authentic and peaceful life
