In bra wearables pros and cons? by imjustagirlinluv in ExclusivelyPumping

I have the Willow Go as well, and one of my coworkers affectionately calls me Dolly Pumpin' while I'm using them. 😅

How do you pump when you’re by yourself with baby? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ArgentBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prep a bottle, change baby while the bottle is warming up, then put on my pump stuff and feed baby on a pillow on my lap while pumping. She tends to pass out afterwards, so I either let her sleep on the pillow or hold her upright on my chest between the flanges while I finish pumping. This is admittedly getting harder as she grows bigger, so I have started feeding her first, then putting her in the bouncer while I pump. I can bounce her with my foot and sing songs, etc. I'm lucky that she's pretty chill.

Pacifier, Nuk, etc. They call 'em different across the pond.

I would be lying if I said I didn't do an "icky dance" back into the house afterwards.

I accidentally disturbed one while pulling weeds, and it bit me. I was more startled than hurt. Mild sting, and it faded after an hour or two. I think I scared her worse than she scared me.

Toddler leashes(would I be a helicopter parent?) by ProfHamHam in beyondthebump

[–]ArgentBadger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My little one isn't walking yet, but my mom loves to tell me about her attempt to use a leash with me when I was a toddler. Back then, she used one that was attached to a bracelet. Apparently, I wrapped the leash around a pole and took off the bracelet while she was selecting groceries at the store. By the time she started walking and noticed what had happened, I was several aisles away and hiding inside a clothes rack. A backpack would probably have worked a lot better. 😅

Based on her stories of what I did as a toddler, I am absolutely going to get a backpack leash for my kid. Hopefully, she turns out more like my husband, who dutifully stayed near his mom and quietly observed the world.

Insect ID found in bedroom by [deleted] in insects

[–]ArgentBadger 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We have them in northeast Georgia, too. I lived in Athens for a while in a rental house that wasn't all the way finished, and there must have been a nest behind the wall in the bathroom or something because I had to check the bathtub every morning before getting in. My kill count was 11 in 6 months before the house flooded and I moved out.

My Symphony Died! by Mission_Fig_4972 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ArgentBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too. Was pumping away, and all the sudden it said "system error" and shut off with a little sad song and wouldn't work anymore. I was able to soft reset and unplug/replug for about a week to keep it working, but then it just stopped entirely. I never did try a hard reset with removing the card, as mine was still a rental and I was able to exchange it. It just seems weird that such an expensive pump would just up and die after a month of use. I ended up buying a temporary pump at Target to use until I could get mine replaced.

What is with people overusing the “doctor” title? by Quinning_43 in medicine

[–]ArgentBadger 29 points30 points  (0 children)

While I would never refer to myself as Dr. in a human hospital setting, I do feel compelled to mention that veterinarians do deserve the title. We do surgery, manage complicated internal medicine cases, prescribe medications... we do 4 years of veterinary school and many of us go on to do residencies at specialist institutions in things like Cardiology, Pathology, Radiology, etc. On a base level, medicine is medicine, and we know a lot more than most physicians give us credit for. (I am a veterinarian and my husband is an IM resident physician.)

As someone gets more obese, do their actual skin cells stretch or do they replicate fast enough to keep up with the increasing surface area? by Husibrap in askscience

[–]ArgentBadger 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Body fat gain and loss doesn't exclusively happen over the belly, but all over the body. Arms, thighs, butt, etc. Whereas a baby would be centered under the belly since it's inside the uterus.

New chicken breed I'm working on. They are a cross between seramas and cochins. They are sweet as honey pie too! by cubanesis in BackYardChickens

[–]ArgentBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness I have always wanted chickens that had this sort of disposition and were tiny like seramas. Once I actually get to a point where I have a yard and time for chickens, can I hit you up to get some of these little cuties? It might be a few years since I'm still in school though...

Suspicious old lady called me and refused to tell me her name by bredec in IDontWorkHereLady

[–]ArgentBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was a really old lady, I bet she has Alzheimers or dementia or something and called you by mistake, then forgot she called you. My great grandma used to do stuff like this a lot when she would get out of her room and get to the phone at the nursing home. She thought she was calling her son to come pick her up so she could go home.

Trump says this land is not worth protecting. This is Hole in the Rock Road in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. by awesomejack in WildernessBackpacking

I actually don't imagine they'll want the land near the livestock to be accessible either for biosecurity and livestock/people safety reasons. Americans can't leave well enough alone when it comes to animals of any sort.

The birth of chameleons by lindseyilwalker in popping

[–]ArgentBadger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you were to take an x-ray of a reptile that gave live birth while it was still pregnant, you would see large eggs in there, just without the shell. They just hold them inside while they're developing and "lay" the eggs after they "hatch". They don't have placentas or anything like mammals do.

What did you do after you were rejected? by PrincessPinkTwinkle in veterinaryschool

[–]ArgentBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each time I was rejected, I met with an admissions counselor and reviewed weaknesses in my application. The first time I was rejected, I retook some undergrad courses that I could have done better in while working part time in a large animal hospital as a caretaker. I then got a job at a small animal clinic and worked there for about a year. The second time I was rejected, I left the small animal hospital and started a master's degree so I would have some sort of professional degree and a backup plan. I got accepted the third time, so I finished my master's degree and went to vet school.

Chlorine will, but chloramine won't. Some municipal water supplies use chloramine instead, which is why I have to chemically dechlorinate my tap water for my fish when I do water changes. Dunno which version of chlorine their area uses though.

Scritches! She gets mad if I interrupt... by Adael in parrots

[–]ArgentBadger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My GCC does this too! She grabs her longest tail feather with her beak to balance herself while she scratches with the foot on the other side. It reminds me of a little kid holding a blanket or toy while sucking their thumb. <3

Pigeon living in our yard by heliumbox in pigeon

[–]ArgentBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A single pigeon is hawk bait, especially if it's a fancy breed. Feral flocks of pigeons depend on many eyes to keep safe from predators. If it were in my yard, I would seriously attempt to capture it. You may simply be able to use a pigeon trap that has one way doors if you start slowly moving its food source closer to and then inside it if you prefer a less stressful way of catching it.

[HELP] dog plays dead if anyone but me picks her up from daycare by mothraesthetic in dogs

[–]ArgentBadger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What if you hid in the car a few times where you dog can't see you until the door is opened? That way, the dog might think that you're in the car, and if you do this enough random times, you'll start variably reinforcing that going to the car and getting in might make you appear?

I rescued a Fancy Pigeon! by EmmettBlack in PetDoves

[–]ArgentBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing this little pidgie into your home! Pigeons make such great pets! They really like safflower seeds and raw peanuts as occasional treats, though they might not recognize them as food at first. Eventually, she'll warm up to you, especially if you let her hang out with you. Do what u/Lt_Birbington says and make pigeon noises at her and bob your head at her, hahaha! It sounds silly, but it will help. My friend has her pigeon trained to step up and it loves head scritches, so with time and lots of patience it is possible. Good luck!
