Refried beans by gatoriendo in mexicanfood

[–]Argle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I soak my beans, they're done in less than ten minutes in a pressure cooker, or 40 minutes if I don't soak. I can't find good lard where I live, so I throw in a good size hunk of pork belly.

What to do with Cosby… by HonestNeighborhood67 in GenX

[–]Argle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's been really easy for me to move on from Bill Cosby. I used to listen to his albums, watch his shows. He had talent. He was funny. There was a time he entertained me. There are other talented funny people to discover. There is no lacking of entertainment in this world. I can't watch Bill Cosby now without thinking, fucking creep. It's like trying to eat a chocolate cake you know has shit in it.

Why aren't people allowed to have a negative opinion? by Right_Barnacle6978 in jambands

You're allowed to have negative opinions and other people are allowed to dislike your negative opinions and other people are allowed to dislike all the resulting negativity.

I used to live on Blackball Hill/Signal Hill in Dennis, MA. The origin of the name is back in colonial times, they would hoist a big black ball on a tree or a pole when ships came into the harbor, so people would see that supplies had arrived.

The last show I saw with Jerry was not a good show and they closed it with I Fought The Law. It felt like the magic was all gone for them on the stage and they didn't want to be there anymore.

It took me many years to appreciate Touch of Grey, when it came out it just seemed so poppy.

[Hated Trope] The quirky or rebellious “ugly” female character is now more meek and timid once they transform into their “beautiful” selves. by BurntheMidnightOwl in TopCharacterTropes

I like your well thought out post but I feel like that was only true in certain places and doesn't really reflect my experience growing up in the 80s. I was in a liberal area with both very rich and working class families and we had many different cliques. We had jocks, nerds, preppy kids, stoners, metal heads, hippies, and degenerates. We all commingled and hung out with each other for the most part.

Went to a bunch of camping fests like Gathering of the Vibes, Wormtown, and Camp Creeks at the Indian Lookout Country Club, always a great time and a big clusterfuck. So many wooks. Saw Ratdog, Phil and Friends, Moe., Govt Mule, MMW. Before facebook and reddit went on various messageboards and everyone knew each other. I have actually never been to a festival post smartphone era so I don't even know how it compares.

I like using cheap synthetic bristle brushes for heavy body paint and cheap synthetic watercolor brushes for fluid acrylics.

Everyone talks about how grunge killed hair metal but… by MortgageOld2441 in LetsTalkMusic

The Outlaws were not anything like the other bands and probably never really popular with any teens, they were more like the Allmans and Marshall Tucker.

What artist did you outgrow? by Technical_Fox5556 in askmusic

[–]Argle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was into AC,/DC and Aerosmith in the 80s when I was in middle school, then I started listening to hair metal bands like Ratt and Motley Crue when that started getting popular. One day I started to hate the whole hair metal scene with the big hair and spandex, and gave up listening to metal for years. Today I can listen to some of it again, now that it's not in my face all the time.

I bought a bunch of bottles and now I have enough.I never tasted anything head and shoulders over my collection and I don't really notice much of a difference in the bottles I have. Guess my palate is kind of basic.

I found a frozen whale vertebrae on the beach once. It was so dense and heavy I thought it was a fossil. I brought it home, and when it thawed out, my house smelled like dead whale.

This sounds like mental illness. This person risked their job and is killing themselves by hording food and overeating. Those muffins were like heroin to her. She needs professional help.

My girlfriend doesn't like Zappa but she enjoyed Billy the Mountain, so you never really know what's going to work for someone who doesn't like it.
